!Hourgame saturday!

It's 2010 and Hourgaming is back!

What's an hourgame competition?
The purpose of Hourgame Saturday is, to encourage the amateur game-making, or to put it bluntly, to make you tear your ass off your chair and finally make something.
In this activity your task is to make an AGS game within a strict and a very short deadline (i.e. one hour).

When will it take place?
This hourgame session will take place on Jan 16 2010, Saturday. It will start at 18:30GMT and participants will have an hour to make their games + 15 minutes to beta test / upload (i.e. deadline is 19:45GMT).

How do I participate?
A theme is set by the previous week's winner and by the contest's host in event of his/her absence. It will be annouced on IRC (three simple steps to IRC?) and here.

Additional infos
- While it is not forbidden for the theme-setters to participate in the activity, their games cannot be voted for (to prevent accusations of cheating and to discourage regular participation).
- Instead, theme-setters are encouraged to draw trophies for the contest's winners.
- Making your game from scratch is strongly encouraged, though it is not forbidden to use music or artwork from public sources if you are allowed to (e.g. using public domain music tracks in your game is OK, but not really necessary). It is also possible to use a pre-existent AGS template for your game (e.g. that Verb-Coin GUI template).
- You cannot use the stuff you've made earlier, because this competition is about making something new.

Uploading:
Suggested hosts to upload your entry to are:
- TerranRich's ShutUpload
- http://www.mediafire.com/
- Or your own place.

Voting:
Just tell us your favourite game (and possibly a couple of less favourite ones), and hopefully someone will do the counting.

Important: please post here if you'd like to join but the timeline is not ok for you! Slight changes are always possible!

Would it be ok if we started a bit earlier this time? I just got a mail saying that I passed every single course I've read autumn 2009 :D :D :D :D :D, Therefore I will probably go out saturday to celebrate.
Since this starts at 20:00 for me it ends at 21:15, which is a bit late. Would it be ok if we started like 18:30GMT or something like that?

Deal! So 18:30GMT it will be!

Less than 45 minutes to go, get your blade sharp!

As usual, I'll post the theme here and on IRC as well.

As usual let me link you to the

convenient shutupload-link-with-all-games

Now, please play'em and tell us a bit about your experience with them/which one you liked most.

Voting closes around Tuesday. I must say I liked them all, really a quality round for hourgaming!

NsMn

I liked all of them.

FSi: A very funny game... or whatever it's called. It makes me think of something you'd see on TV.

Wyz: Awww, that was so cheap  ;) It would've taken me hours to figure that single puzzle out.

Bulbapuck: A game with puzzles, Hooray! And it also has these kiddy-like Bulbapuck graphics.

I'm not sure who I'd vote for though.... but since I only have one, it goes to FSi.

Bulbapuck: a very random game, in the nice way, which I appreсiate greatly, it made me smile, chuckle and wonder. and it actually has puzzles, yeah

Wyz: really nicely done one! it feels like a real adventure game, just a small one. I liked the various descriptions and therefore the feeling (or illusion :P ) of actual gameplay. and of course the irony of the only puzzle made me laugh

FSi: a very solid effort for an hourgame, lot of jokes, animations, actions and stuff and it's really funny and a bit absurd. it was quite enjoyable

so, well, it was really hard to pick because each of the games has its different appeal, but I think I'll go for Bulbapuck because his game has it all: the humour, the sweet randomness, the original graphics and even some inventory puzzles which are crazy too and that's definitely a good thing

well done, everyone! :)

Bulbapuck Where your graphics suffered the actual gameplay made up for it. It was a humorous and nonsensical adventure. i really enjoyed it.

Wyz You definitely created the room with the best looking background, it kind of a shame you didn't get any original character in there. Your game was the one i spent the most time in as well because the puzzle wasn't too intuitive. solid game for an hour nonetheless.

FSi I was confused at first but i did enjoy your quirky graphics, it sure beats using the original ags guy to me at least. a bit or a shame regarding the lack of colour and very odd animations.

With all that in mind my vote goes to Bulbapuck, for simply providing a full experience. well done to you all. :=

Dualnames

Bulbapuck A very nice game, I really liked the dog, some good and funny dialogue lines. Overall a nice entry.

Wyz Ah, well, best graphics there. But that's all there is.

FSi And here comes FSi. The man that can prove graphics are not needed to have someone laughing! I really liked the game, very funny! Well done entry!

My vote goes to FSi
Worked on Strangeland, Primordia, Hob's Barrow, The Cat Lady, Mage's Initiation, Until I Have You, Downfall, Hunie Pop, and every game in the Wadjet Eye Games catalogue (porting)

Twirlly

Bulbapuck: original character, I accidentally completed a task before I should have, but the point is that there was something to do

Wyz: best room, good object interactions, "puzzle" was amusing, wish there was an original character though

Fsi: the girl was precious in pink, loved the concept, but it lacked in actual game interaction

Looking at original graphics, inventory inclusion, and actual puzzle play, I vote Bulbapuck.
Winner Winner Chicken Dinner!

david

I vote for FSi really entertaining and the funniest little piece

bicilotti

Congratulations to our winner, FSi!

It was a very enjoyable hourgame session, with quality games and lovely voters. Well FSi, your turn now. I think this activity was ruled to be biweekly, so remember to spam the boards/IRC appropriately when the time comes and see you all in two weeks!

Well, at first I was planning to set a timer, and let the character remember something after a while, but that would have been even worse ;)
Just lack of inspiration, I hope to improve on it any future attempts. It gets the creative juices going though!
