I am seriously gonna work on a game this time, but these are the first 2 screenies i have of the game.Ã,  When i'm working on them, my mind goes blank and i don't know what else to do. I trust my AGS friends to help me improve these screens.

note: i haven't finished the second BG.  The windows i could not figure how to look right.

Moox

oww really bright, looks good, remove black outline on barn and grain silo

LordHart

Yeah, I have to agree that it is too bright. But maybe that is just because of the yellow, and then the pink chimney of the second pic. :-[

The brigtness reminds of of Richard Longhurst and the Box That Ate Time..

The barn looks acceptionally good.. And the rest works quite well.. tis a neat style you got going there
You. Me. Denny's.

MrColossal

I love the brightness, it's so children's book

i enjoy it a lot and there isn't much i can comment on at the moment, i don't think

The bright colors at first REALLY caught my attention ... but the more I look the more I like it.

The first one looks really good!Ã,  The layout is perfect and it just ... fits.Ã,  Great job on that one!Ã,  Some suggestions:
- the two middle roof lines (barn) appear to be slightly off perspective
- remove the black outline around the silo (as was mentioned)

The second one is good (not as good as the first one yet) but since it's still a WiP I won't comment too much.Ã,  The main thing I would say would be to shrink the flowers a little ... unless they're supposed to be overly-large!

Good work man!

Add a shadow for the fence on 1st one, curve windows more...

can't you guys stop saying "it reminds me of..." allt the time? it's getting annoying. please

Peter Thomas

That reminds me of a conversation we had in #ags once ;)

I like the pics. I especially like the large flowers. It reminds me - as eric said - of a children's book.

Minimi

This is awesome looking brightness! It reminds me of the VGA time, with extremely bright graphics! Looks good, keep the spirit alive!

Dart

Hehe... I love the barn.

So much, that...

*Dart steals barn image and uses it in her game*

Eh, nevermind. But what's this game supposed to be about?

Andail

It reminds me of mom's quest more than anything else, the naivistic and stylistic details, like those huge flowers, etc...

Especially the first bg is an ace

m0ds

Both backgrounds look good! Their bright nature isn't a problem at all. I don't think they need to be darkened because sometimes the colours of the land ARE that bright-style colour;

for example.

The backgrounds don't remind me of anything, but if I had to choose then the first one reminds me of Oklahoma and the second Richard Longhurst as others said. Both nice backgrounds and I think they'll look great in game, and the brightness won't be a problem.

Ginny

I really like the whole look of the first image, the layout is great as darth said. I like the small details you added, such as the sunflower, the tree stump, and the odd plant in the crop that looks like a pumpkin ;). Normally bright colours bug me, and I like low-saturation, but in this case it fits very well. Maybe just the yellow is a bit painful because unlike the photograph m0ds took, the yellow in your bg's 9second one more precisely) covers a large area.. Maybe not..
Anyway, the barn with it's bricks looks great, and the other house reminds me of (;)) some kind of fruit.. With the pink chimney thing that resembles a straw or something, and the green leaves at the top, it makes it look like it's located in "Fruit-house land" :D.
I would suggest not to save it as jpg, it adds artifacts, but if you're using mspaint, gif doesn't seem to work too well either. I'd use a different program to convert bmp to gif, or if you're not using paint, just save as gif.
The windows should probably be a somewhat lighter, paler blue.
There is something abou the size of the rooms that bugs me: what resolution will you be using? The first pic looks like it's a room for 320X200 res, but scrolling, but the second looks like it's 640X400. Maybe you just made the second pic bigger here on the forums.
edit: *checks link for images* Aha, so you have used 2x. Well, all the better :).

Thank you for all your kind words.Ã,  :)

I got the idea for nice bright backgrounds with alot of color after watching the Wizard of Oz again last week.Ã,  I just felt compelled to try and copy that, hence the yellow road, although not brick.

I think this is way i'm gonna go, and like most of you have already said, it does look like a kids book, and this was also the effect i was going after.

Thank you again. Now i'm going back to working on them.

Shawn

oh, isn't it funny that my name is Dark-of-Night, but i used the brightest colors in the world when doing backgrounds. I just found that kind of funny.
