I won`t tell you which one I like the most, but A & F seems OK.

---
There`s a small suggestion, generally just anti-aliasing:

:2X

I`ve used the same number of colors as you, but still don`t know if I hadn`t mixed up anything. It was something around 3 AM and I`m just learning all those pixel techniques. Zoom it up to see what has been changed.

I would also suggest you adding some design to his shirt, plus some folds to make more natural look.

It was funny to do and I hope it will be even a bit helpful.

Good luck!

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I'll keep it at A for now. It'll always be easy to change later.

Some updates:

and..

Thanks! I may add a design to the shirt, and/or folds and creases. Problem really is I'm not a very good animator (in fact I hate it), so I'm trying to keep it as simple as possible. Form follows function after all.  ;)

About your latest update, the first frame (side-view) seems a bit dull when compared to the next frame (also-side-view).  I think you should use frame #2 as the side-view, #3 as the 3/4'ths view, and #4 as the front-facing view.  This may have been what you were already going to do, so I guess I just wanted to say that I think #2 would do better as a side-view than #1.

Side view # 3 is missing his arms!

His arms are missing in side view # 3, so that should be fixed. ^_^

dude, make him a little bit slimmer, taller, and shrink his head 1/2 the size and make it in more of an egg shape, not a bowling ball.

I noticed it. I just thought it was a WIP image. Arms are difficult to draw for 3/4 views.

He looks amazing! I can already see him giving those increadibly funny and smartmouth replies to everything that will be going on in the game.

Great work! ;)

This is a really cute character, though the standing frame leans over to screen-left a little. It looks quite natural though, children do slump. It might be nice to have an idle animation where he shifts to leaning screen-right.

Also, when he rotates, he spins around a point below his backpack. I think it would look better if he rotated around a point between his feet. As another small, point, the size of the bag straps changes a little as he spins. Aside from that it looks supergood.

The only other thing I'd suggest would be that you ignore this advice:

Yeah I was planning on that. Basically like in MI2 (I believe), Guybrush has a straight side view for walking, and when he stops, he has a more 3/4ish view. So that's what that's for. Or something like that.  :P

But he's supposed to be a little kid. Sort of a cross between Southpark and the Simpsons. We're not going for realism here.  :)

Yeah the slight slump was intentional.  :) Not only a characteristic of kids, but just an attempt to make him more natural and not so symmetrical and robotic.

Yeah the spinning animation was mostly just a temporary thing to see how it looked in psuedo-3d. The rotation point will be corrected when the sprites are finished.

Bag straps, yup, working on it.  ;D

Thanks for the comments everyone! It's coming along pretty well I think. I'll update soon with more pics.

edit: here's that update:

Paper Carnival

This is pretty awesome, but I liked the blue trousers more.

Mad-Hatter

It seems to have gone under some good improvements.

In the rotation animation two posts above this one, I notice that when he's completely at his side his left foot seems to disappear.

I realize this is supposed to be because it's hidden behind his right foot from that particular pov, but I would suggest making it stand out a little bit more, like being able to see the heel of his foot, because very few people stand with their feet perfectly aligned.
