Here's a little sketchy illustration i was working on..

and here's a version with a bit more contrast (not much though.. as i want it to be more neutral anyway): http://users.volja.net/igorsi1/tilo1.jpg

which one do you prefer (if you can even see the difference that is)?

Nikolas

i think i prefer the first one. And i love the bar on the door. She must be really trying to stay that fit! :D

Cute!
It would look more realistic if you made her calves smaller or her thighs rounder. Either she has curves or she doesn't.
I like the expression on the teddybear's face. Like a fed up pet.

Looks great. I'm most impressed by the outline quality. The girl is tableted separately from the drawn background, right? Truly professional stuff. My only gripe is that the room looks very rundown, which in my opinion doesn't fit the style. Also I would've added just a tad of shadowing, a tad only, though. I love the colortones, as well.

Evil

I like the second one better. The higher contrast makes the bear and shade stand out more.

Every girl you draw is so cute. You design these characters to please me, I think.

Fantastic Igor, as always, i wouldn't dare critique your stuff, you're truly inspirational  :)

The first one is softer on your eyes. The second one looks more...radioactive.

is she thinking about a way to slove the problem of the mess in her closet??

I like this one more. Very very nice. But are you sure about the nipples? :)

My thoughts exactly. Really beautiful Igor!! I love the jagged edges on everything. But.. [Seinfeld quote] correct me if I'm wrong... but I think I see... a nipple! [/Seinfeld quote]

Edit: I forgot to say I like the one displayed here more. I think the girl stands out to much in the second one.

Ali

I love the fingers on her left hand, they look wrong but in a right kind of way. Or perhaps they look right in a wrong kind of way. Either way, this work elegantly recaptures the off-kilter style of classic Warner Brothers cartoons.

As for the nipples, they look wrong, but in a right kind of way.

Thank you all for comments! glad to hear you like better the first version with less contrast.

Ildu- yeah, they are both hand-drawn, but the girl was inked, while the background was drawn with pencil.. kind of like cell animation actually :)

Do you mean the girl was actually drawn with ink straightaway without pencils? If so, did you colorize the outline in PS? Or are the girl's outlines tableted on the computer according to scanned pencil/ink outlines?

The background looks inarguably done in pencil with digital coloring, but the girl's outlines look tableted. The reason I'm asking is that I'm used to drawing my character outlines with pencil and tableting them on the computer with pressure-sensitiveness on high to make it look more random. I am really not comfortable with drawing with ink. Usually I screw up the design when drawing without pencil underlyings and when I have the pencil design ready, I concentrate too much on following that design and not enough on getting a good-looking outcome. So that's why I wanna know.

yeah, it was done this way (except the lines were colorized in Flash).. i'm using Staedtler Pigment Liner for "inking".. i like it, because it gives you great control over lines.

when i got tablet, i wanted to use that technique too.. but soon found out, that it takes me way too much time. What i inked on paper in a minute, took me well over 10 minutes on a computer (with all editing, etc.). plus, i like feeling of having a direct control on paper :)

Yeah, my drawing ability isn't consistent enough. So I don't really feel comfortable drawing in ink from scratch. So do you just ink on a piece of white paper and scan it in? I'm just surprised about the sharpness of the outline. And do you plan the poses and such on separate papers before drawing with ink?

usualy i draw characters with pencil first (for the same reason as you- to avoid any major mistakes) and then use "animation light table", to draw the inked version on new paper. This pic was the exception- i knew exactly what i wanted to do with the girl, so i didn't draw any previous sketch and went straight to inking.

yes, that's pretty much it
