I've been busy working on these for a website i'm maing for my final project, thought the style might interest folks:

Concepts:

A few final paintovers (in various stages of completion, i'm not happy with the garden really, so i'll be overhauling it in a lot of places.):

What do you think? Comments/crit as always appreciated.

Those are the best backgrounds by far I've seen for a while! What are they for? Legend of the lost lagoon. They look a lot better than some of your older bgs.  :o  :o Seriously, those are professional.

Wicked...HAve you ever used a Vector program? cause that would be like double wicked!

I'm really not worthy to crit this as it rocks the shit out of my mum... But here it goes. On the first "real" pic, there is something pouring from the skies. Unless there is a pipe or something above, i really can't see where the water is coming from, as rain usually dont take this shape. And the "towel-shelf" in the last pic seems to lack some debth. IMO it looks like a flat drawing of a shelf hanging in front of the wall. But the rest is just too good! :D

ManicMatt

I think the roof caved in from small rocks, perhaps meteors/comets.

Although I'm confused as to why there is a fence and a tree inside someone's house. I'm sure all of this and more will be explained in the game. Lets just drool at the pretty graphics, eh?

raddicks

I don't think anyone can pick holes in these backgrounds, maybe foreground needs more lighting? don't listen to that hah its perfect

Really, your up to par with the Dott team
;D
can't wait to see it.

The only thing that bothers me is the distance blur in the second image. It doesn't look natural. Lose it entirely or make it less intense. Otherwise, brilliant work (especially the third image)!
Diversity is divine!

I think that vector is too mechanical and it loses the spirit in the picture. Hand drawn is better, cooler, more atmospheric and it gives you the feel what the artist was really thinking -- well, at least most cases...
But vector is good for small details and such, just don't overuse it.
I am just a shallow stereotype, so you should take into consideration that my opinion has no great value to you.

I have to say, this is the most impressive stuff I've seen from you yet! The upstairs bedroom and the bathroom are my favorites. I noticed that the dimensions vary slightly by piece. Are these backgrounds for an AGS game?

Cheers, it's great to hear that from someone as talented as yourself! They're still in need of final framing/cropping, as these were just flattened and cropped quickly in PS. Nope hey're not for an AGS game, they're for an interactive flash site im building atm :)

As always, your style really brings these rooms to life in a different way.  The only thing that seems a bit strange to me is the light from the window in the bedroom.   Maybe it's the angle but it almost seems to be floating rather than on the ground.  Fantastic work as usual, Dan.

Seriously, holy gods, these are awesome.  I would give someone else's left arm to be able to draw/computer-paint like that.  I don't suppose you've ever thought of working up a step-by-step tutorial, because that art outclasses most of the other tutorials I've seen.  Cheers, and pentuple-kudos!

I love the snow coming in the door on the bath-house screen and the white sheet in the attic room. Lovely details.

If you did have the time to work on a tutorial, then it would be interesting if you concentrated on a small part of a scene like that. These scenes are so rich I think a broader tutorial might skip over the most interesting bits.
