Ill finish it tonight, and put up an explanation of where it is etc. Feel free to comment.

Could you post a larger version (maybe scaled x2) please? Love the shading so far, but some of the details are lost on a high resolution monitor with that tiny image size.

ravenfusion

Whoa, it looks like a high-res version of that room outside of the office in Sam & Max Hit the Road. :P

Very nice work.

I dare to say that it's excellent even though it's still unfinished!Just fill it up with stuff and keep on doing a great job. I do especially like the lights and shadows. Oh maybe png would be better choice.

YOke

As I said before: SWEET!!!
The lighting is spectacular!

In short: You ROCK!!! :)

I'd like to know how you get such amazing work done, and be on the forums all day? Then go back in time 4 years and tell me how.
- Oh great, I'm stuck in colonial times, tentacles are taking over the world, and now the toilets backing up.
- No, I mean it's really STUCK. Like adventure-game stuck.

...you call THAT unfinished?

Love the lightning, love the shadows...

I wouldn't change a thing.

DanClarke

wow thanks everybody, i'm glad you like it, i guess it helps you get a taste of how the game will look, seeing as you've seen a few of the characters too.   :)

Dart- Trust me it will look better when it's finished  ;)

Pet Terry

Wow indeed, your graphics skills are as good as Cornjob's or Pessi's!

This is pretty much the finished article, there are a few little bits that i'll tweak, but this is finished overall, happy with it, i wanted a dark light setting. ;D

Can I be the first to ask for you to do a tutorial for us?  Many steps would be great!

I'm guessing you mean just going through this drawing as i did it step by step? I'd be happy to, although i hope some people will give me help on the technical side of things when i come to that part  ;D

First: Great!

Second: some crits.
The only thing that bothers me is the light line at the foot of the door in the back. The way the scene works now is that the player's attention is forced onto the red door to the right. However, this one little line forces the eye back to the left.
If that is a space under the door and there is a light behind it, I'd expect the floorboards to be lit up a little. If it is nothing, I suggest painting it away/making it greyer, darker.

I presume the door to the right is the important one. Very nicely framed. I love how the light and the very light glint on the doorknob just focus your attention there! All hand-drawn? Which program did you use?

Take a look at Miez's background tutorial for some basic ideas on setting it up, if you have the time. I can definitly speak for a majority here saying we'd like a glimpse into your talent.

Hollister Man

It looks 3d rendered to me, but that is not bad at all!

Regardless of 2D or 3D, one has to have a good feel for the composition.  You didn't make the noob mistake of setting the camera dead center in the rear wall, and yet everything fits nicely too.

Good job
That's like looking through a microscope at a bacterial culture and seeing a THOUSAND DANCING HAMSTERS!

are there supposed to be no posts under the railing that goes down the stairs?

also, amazing background

too bad the character couldn't cast a shadow on the wall where the light is coming in from...

Hmm....could be done with some labour-intensive and extremely clever character views, I guess....

MrColossal

as far as i thought about it it would be very very very hard unless you were ok with the character's shadow darkening the cross bar's shadow, then it would just be very very hard.
