i'm having some problems with my best friend (a girl). she's been my closest friend for more than 2 years, but sometimes i feel like i don't really know her.

what's your opinion? can a guy and a girl be very close without being in a romantic relationship?

See? Of course it's possible. As long as you feel no attraction toward the girl -- physical or otherwise -- then it's possible. That might sound like a contradiction, but it happens. I'm friends with a girl that I feel no attraction to and it's cool. Just like a guy. Er...

Heh, almost all my friends are guys. It was like this since I was 7. Of course we had our differences like me not being able to climb trees sometimes when I felt like wearing a skirt   , but it always worked out OK in the end.

I know that one completely, I've got 2 girl friends that are 2 of my closest friends, I slept with one a few years ago, it didn't work but we're still friends, probably better than before, the other one is probably a closer friend, never contemplated sleeping with her, (I lie, of course I have) but she has usually got a boyfriend, we've been friends for over ten years. It would just seem wierd to start going out.

Having friends of the opposite sex (or sexual preference) is probably harder to get going, but probably ends up stronger long term [usually these are the ones you end up at least dating at some stage]. but finding the right partner is much harder, depends if you just give up and go for what you can get (which is what most people do, just so they aren't lonely, LOOK at the divorce rates)

I don't just think it's possible, I think it's downright important to have friends of the opposite sex. Being able to ask a female perspective on things can be a great help sometimes.

Personally, I find it way easier to hang out with girls who are in the 'friend zone', since there's not the pressure of "oh my god does she want to sleep with me", but that might just be me being weird.

terranRICH, I never said it was impossible.  I have a female friend who lives in my house, along with my current girlfriend.  It's impossible to have a female as just a friend without a jealous girlfriend, though.
