Even though MTV will just turn around and trash this show just like they did with every other great performance, I can't help but love them for it.

I finished watching Korn Unplugged about two hours ago. And it's still growing on me. I downloaded the torrent imeadiatly.

I'm not that big of a fan of Korn, but I know that they are all musical geniuses and deserve respect. They have done some of the best covers of all time and they know how to treat other musician's work.

This show was outstanding. The best show I've seen on TV and I've seen about a hundred broadcast concerts. An amazing cover of Creep by Radiohead and a version of Freak On A Leash with Amy Lee from Evanescence, who in my opinion has the best female voice in music today.

But the best part, by far, was the duet with Robert Smith and the rest of The Cure. Combining Make Me Bad and In Between Days, and the polar oppositions of their voices make for a blood chilling work of art.

Anyone else see this show? If you haven't seen this I highly recommend it. You can find the torrent online and it's totally worth the download. (Psst: BtJunkie has the most peers, by the way.)

I'm on my fifth time listening to these songs. Great show Korn, and great job MTV.

Or, if you feel like being legal, you can buy the CD :)

Im f'cking sold. Will download immediately.

On another note, they're now confirmed for download festival. I saw them last year but unfortunately Johnathan Davies was ill and unable to play, this year shall be good :)

Musical geniuses? I don't think so.

You always get dicks who lack an open mind when it comes to music. I can guarantee neither Pslocum or 'Medical Waste' have actually taken a listen to this album.

After listening to it a few times Evil it really has grown on me, not so sure about freak with Amy Lee she really does overpower Johnathan with her voice.

The Creep cover is ace, even if he can't hit the highs :) The track with Robert Smith is ace in a completely different way, they've managed some amazing dynamics with their vocals (although the use of old lyrics puts me off a little).

Worth a download anyway, did you get a video version or audio?

I certainly do not lack an open mind to music. I don't know how you get that just because I don't like a mainstream band very much. I have heard Korn before. I'm not saying they're terrible, but musical geniuses is high praise that I don't think they are very worthy of.

My comment was more aimed at pslocum than you MW. With his pointless one word reply it reminds me of a lot of the shit that my band and the bands that i promote get from the few mindless people who call them selves musicians but in reality will get no where without an open mind.

Maybe 'dick' was a little ott  :=

And Korn are regarded as 'Musical geniuses' by a great deal of people, i myself only have two albums but i can appreciate that they have a very unique and distinguishable sound to their music, one that will live on far longer than a great deal of other 'mainstream bands' (MCR, FOB, iamghost, Aiden come to mind).

I'll say it. They're terrible.

QuoteYou always get dicks who lack an open mind when it comes to music. I can guarantee neither Pslocum or 'Medical Waste' have actually taken a listen to this album.

I love when this happens. Whenever someone says X band is terrible, it usually leads to two things: a) accusations of being hat0rz who don't have an open mind, or b) accusations of being hat0rz who haven't listened to the album yet.

I've got an open mind. Why? Because I listened to some Korn albums. My conclusion: A bunch of angsty high-school wankery from a bunch of angsty, untalented dorks. They do the same angsty bullshit on every album and that's all they'll ever do. Compare the lyrics of one of their recent songs to one of their earlier songs. It's all the same: "hi i'm an outsider of society who craves sex to ease my pain of dead bodies everywhere but my girlfriend fucked me over so i hate that bitch whore meanwhile i fucked my best friends girlfriend and now i hate myself and i also hate my parents so i now want to kill myself fuck fuck fuckity fuck".

I've heard a lot of people say they're musical geniuses. Why? Because they invented nu metal? Bloody hell, look at other bands spawned under the nu metal tag: Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, P.O.D., Slipknot... I mean, Jesus, I've never heard of a more untalented category of bands (yes, more untalented than polka bands and barbershop quartets). This is what Korn created? Seriously, the music industry could do with out that shit.

And describing Korn's appearance on MTV as a "great show" is like eating crusty two-week old hotdog from the fattest, hairiest, smelliest carny you've ever met, rubbing your belly and saying "YUM YUM YUM! MORE PLEASE!"

Your post lacks any consistency DG. You accuse me of using the comment 'people who lack an open mind towards foreign music genres', but you've obviously got Korn summed up into your own nice comfortable stereotype.

Doing this means that ultimately you're going to end up listening to the same old until you get sick of it, and when it comes to the point that you're looking for something new all these bands you've stereotyped into genre's will be unaccessible to you.

If this is how you like to deal with bands that you obviously don't know anything about then that's fine but i'm not going to take the time to explain to you why your wrong.

I don't know if your a musician yourself but good luck finding other musicians who want to work like this.

Ooh dear.

Let me just say, as a person who despises most Korn music, the unplugged album REALLY is a decent listen.

But how dare you DGMacphee. How DARE you insult polka like that. Polka players are GENIUSES! You bastard.
You. Me. Denny's.

Blackthorne

I love DGMacphee. Ã,

You summed it all up well. Ã, I can only add that they suck so bad that their guitar player left them for Jesus.

Korn is a schtick, packaged and sold to you like a pack of Slim-Jims. Ã,

Let's see now...

* People cannot relate to a band, or to some lyrics (no matter how rubbish they are/may seem), thus the band is completly untalented/rubbish!

* People cannot judge music, because they don't know music themselves.

You won't believe how pissed off you make me with this thread.

Korn are not the gods of music, or geniouses, that's for sure. I have 4 albums btw, and I bought all of them, with my own will. So I can judge and speak and know about Korn a little bit.

Talented? why not! The bassist really is not the greatest around, and surely their guitar playing is not amazing! But... But... btw, the songs are really well crafted, and what's most important in this "genre" (how I hate this word...), produced amazingly! What NIN did for Marilyn Manson, did the producer(s) for Korn...

Having lyrics like any bullshit, helps selling. Are we looking for peace messages in Korn music? nope! Are there any messages maybe that are worth something? Maybe about child abuse? (yes), maybe about war? (yes), maybe about music companies? (yes).

Bottom line, I cannot believe that there is any band/artist that has sold soooooooo much much world wide, and is not worth it. Even Christina Aguilera has something about her (the total opposite to Korn maybe...). Madonna? Michael Jackson? NIN? Marilyn Manson. you may not like it, but in the end selling millions means something. It measn that people who think that these bands are simply stupid and only rubbish, just don't get it. without this meaning anything about their taste in music, their knowledge of music, or their IQ at all! They just don't get it!

Are they packaged? For sure they are. But only indie groups are not packaged, all mainstream are, no matter the genre.

Blackthorne

Why do people say Fieldy is an "amazing" bass player.  His tone sounds like a dying wheelbarrow slapping against a dead trout.

I'll have to check this out. I'm not a major fan of Korn by any means but older albums like "Korn" and "Life Is Peachy" really make me wet :)

So you hate it/them, why don't you shutup for once? ;)

I like how you've gotten all this from my 'one word' reply. Mind readin' over the internets!!!1

As to the topic itself, it's always rather interesting when somebody in a situation like this decides to proceed by making ad hominem attacks against people instead of defending or even talking about the music itself. In this case, wildly assumptive ad hominem attacks against somebody who only said two words- "he must not even have listened to the music", "he's just like all these other assholes who insulted my band", etc. And the always-overused 'open minded', in this case, means that if I don't like your band the only possible reasons are because a) I haven't ever heard them, or b) am an intolerant old stick in the mud. Not, y'know. Anything having to do with the music.

Also: if a joke reply irritates you and you know nothing about the person who wrote it, it's generally not a wise idea to blindly fulminate against the 'probable' reasons they made the reply. Why, you might even ignore it instead of waging pointless battles on the internet!
