Welcome to the forum Zwiffer.
The guy selling fine leather jackets is to your left. If you want to know more about Loom, ask the guy to your right.  (laugh)

But in all seriousness, I look forward to seeing what you make. If you're going for a SCI0/SCI1 style, does that mean you're planning on using a text parser?

I would actually prefer to use the text parser. Since my memories of those games are the warmest. But since this is my first experience in coding games in general. I find creating a point and click interface is already more than enough of a challenge. I can imagine it gets more complicated when having to process text commands.

Hello, I am 90sNick (or 90sNick_Pinesal in some places). I have created a couple of RPGmaker games, but there's the thing with those, I modeled the gameplay after a point and click adventure, no battles, just dialog and puzzles.

I have known about AGS for a while but was always too intimidated to use it because it's more code heavy than RPG maker. However, after switching careers recently, I have been doing light coding for work and now I am much more comfortable, though still very armature at program coding and logic.

I hope to use these forum to discus idea, find out what I don't know I don't know, and get help with AGS specific syntaxes and practices.

I do have a quick request, if I may; I there a game that I can play and load into AGS for the purposes of dissecting the game and figuring out how it works? The build in templates are good but they don't represent a full working game.

Thanks.

Welcome!
In case you didn't find it, there is a list of open source games you can check out here: https://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/forums/advanced-technical-forum/a-sticky-list-with-open-source-ags-games/

Make sure to investigate the newer ones if your purpose is to figure out AGS!

Welcome to the forums Nick. You made a good choice of engine for adventure games. It can seem intimidating at first, but you'll find that it's actually quite easy to use. This was the first game engine I used, and I had no coding expereience at all. As a matter of fact, AGS, is what started me off learning how to code.
I look forward to your future projects.  :-D

I know exactly what you mean. I first learnt how to use AGS by dissecting the various templates.
If you like, I can give you the source code to one of my old games. Although in terms of coding, it'll probably be quite messy.

Thank you both Baba and Danvzare.

Hi everyone. :) I don't know how to introduce myself. I am a female deaf gamer and programmer.

I was shocked when adventure gamers' forum was gone. Does anyone know the progress of this case? I hope it was a technical error that can be easily fixed.

By the way, I'm developing this game. I love most retro adventure games.

So far I haven't found an entertaining point and click game with some of sign language integrated as the the whole and main part. There is no need to learn language inside a game... I've searched and googled and it seems the most sign language-based games are some hand alphabets or mostly educational instead of entertainment where adventure players can experience a new kind of game environment and can at the same time enjoy and be entertained.

Please back up my Kickstarter campaign that aims at funding sign language animations in pixelart that are most costly of all parts of this game development. I humbly believe it deserves some words spread about itself <3

Please follow the project, spread the word, anything that can help me complete my humbly unique vision! I will be forever grateful! <3

Welcome. The forums over on AG were deleted by the site's new owners, an online gambling outfit. I'm fairly sure they aren't coming back. But former AG staff have set up a new website, here, which will hopefully carry on it's legacy.
