There's really no point bitching about something you can't change on a forum that nobody important reads.

No point? What are you, insane? I think plenty of people here are important, anyway. Look, people here. LGM is dissing you!

I already said all of this before so I won't go on. Talking about things like this are what people do on forums and in conversations with friends and in any other kinds of free media you like. It is important because if we all shut up about it, things would get even worse. Plus, what on earth would we talk about in this 'general' forum if it wasn't this? How sad we are during puberty? How nice the weather is? What our favourite Lucasarts game is? Well, all these things are just fine and dandy but I just don't want to live in a world where I can't slag off a stupid movie in an 'unimportant' forum. Nosiree.

ahhh.... nostalgic reminiscence.. I used to be a huge Superman fan. Not that I dislike him anymore, but I am not all that intense about it. I got a whole bunch of the comics, and even a bunch of books like "Death of Superman". I remember when they dedicated a whole page in my local newspaper to "The Death of Superman". That got me really sad. Then they brought him back to life. Also, all those cheesy Superman movies. If they can top them, it could be considered a success. There is nothing wrong with casting a black actress for Lanes part. However, I just can't see Beyonce in that role. However, if they make a movie I would probably watch it. If it is good then good. If it sucks, then so what? I wasted a couple of hours. I would not be moaning about how they destroyed the purity of the superman comics and stuff like that.

Now the purity of Monkey Island I can moan about forever  :P

FRIGGING TERENCE STAMP!

My Terence Stamp Impersonation (mp3)

Terence Stamp is awe. They HAVE to make another Superman movie with General Zod, just for him. In fact, screw Superman. I want a General Zod movie.

Just some things... Some may be related, and some not, these are just thoughts...

Tim Burton used a black actor for the upcoming two-faces character (Two faces was Gotham's district Attorney , which finally was performanced by Tomy Lee Jones).

Spiderman's and Daredevil enemy, Kingpin, wasn't black in the comics neither, but it was in the film...

Green Goblin I does not die in the comics... He came back from some coma state becaming Green Goblin III.

Harry Osborne dies saving Mary and Spidey's lifes in the comics, after realising how evil he became.

Spiderman did not invented the "Net launcher" in the movie because the Director thought that if a teen guy was would invent that he'd probably preffer to sit in a sofa counting his millions of dollars better than fighting the crime... I agree.

Farl: About Harvey Dent... I didn't quite like the fact that Tim Burton changed the color of Harvey. It didn't end up being very important since he wasn't Two-Face in Tim's movies. But the fact that they switched him back was ever worse!

I guess I'm sort of a purist in this respect, but I feel that when you make a comic into a movie you have a greater responsibility to keep the visual appearance of the original than you do when you adapt a book. In my head this goes down to the color of the skin. For instance using MC Duncan as Kingpin... They already chose a big guy... Why couldn't they get a big white guy? This is not about racism, but attention to detail. The lack of black superheroes is a historical fact. What is racist is the assumption that a white superhero can't be a hero/rolemodel for kids of other skin colors. It's a bit like casting Jim Carrey in the role as Nelson Mandela in the story of his life.
The same thing applies regarding the net launcher. How it was made is part of the Spider Man LEGEND. I feel it's important.

In closing I just want to have a little disclaimer:
I'm NOT a racist1 (I always preferred Tubbs over Crockett)
I'm NOT telling Hollywood how to make movies (Just how they should do it if they want to please me! ;) )

Superman was flawed from the beginning

Exactly, If he'd just thrown every lead briefcase he saw into the sun/leant heavily on the lead doors to vaults, he never would have had any problems with Kryptonite.

Nacho

I agree with YOke somewhat, but also with Mr. Eric... Not all can't be told in a film.  :'(

And the net launcher thingie had some pros and againsts... It was sorta illogical to create such a web and not sharing the knowleadge with the world (Man, a web like that could save lifes, imagine using it for repairing broken airplanes  :)), but the resource of lack of web-foam when Spidey was going to catch some evil character in the comics was f*ing cool! :)

I guess no film can make everybody happy, but I was quite happy about Spidey's version.

does it matter?

and if the lois lane character in a comic is white doesn't mean that the lois character in the movie has to be white.

the same with the new catwoman movie.

eh, so what? is superman all that important of a comic/series of movies that it's "purity" has to be retained?

full ack.

Kinoko

I agree with things just being apart of "legend". How many people in the original comic boom era do you think enjoyed these comics because of their realism? Things don't HAVE to be explained, just told... I would have had no problem whatsoever with a kid just inventing the web gadget in his room after becoming Spiderman. Perhaps he became smarter ^_^ Who knows, who cares! This is what makes people love comics - cool stuff just happens for the sake of a fun story. Addressing the realism or lack thereof of such things is what spoofs and satire are for.

I remembering being completely annoyed at the costumes of the new X-men. All black and "cool"... pah. It was supposed to be about cheesy superheroes! I want all the cheesiness that comes with those old stories!

Not everything has to make sense when it's in a fun movie. It just has to be fun. When it's a movie based on something else though, it also has to be somewhat faithful. If you want to change a story, come up with your own, I say. Unless it was a really shitty story to begin with, or... the original author/whatever does the changing. Even then... sometimes it's wrong (Star Warssss).

I just like the fact that Harvey Dent was played by Lando Calrission.

Dean Cain played Superman for several years in Lois and Clark, and he's still fine.  ;)

By the way, I thought he did a good job as Superman

I've never been a comicbook reader, but I always loved the cartoons.  I think (to some extent) what they're doing lately is good.  They're going back and weeding out the stupid parts that had to do with the Cold War, or 'superizing' radiation, or 'cosmic rays.'  Things that were never really realistic in their day, but sound silly as heck now.  I LOVED Daredevil the movie, as I did Spiderman.  I think, although straying from the 'canon', they maintained the essence of what the character is.  The pain he has to go through each day, the things he has to give up to save people, just because he can.

I love Smallville , ( well ...except for the fact that they keep using the "let's base this episode on kryptonite shower results" or whatever...if you've seen the series you should know what I mean! ...anyway...that gets old....fast. ) , but like some people , I don't care who plays superman and lois lane  as long as they look good and can act.  I really hope the catwoman movie that stars Halle Berry gets made because she was great in Gothika and looks fantastic as catwoman , in the original tv show , at least one of the women who played catwoman at some time was Black and she did an excellent job too.  So , in my opinion , unless you haven't seen the original or something , it's not that big a leap to think of catwoman as a Black character.  It's funny , usually I don't care who plays the role as long as I consider the person good looking and a good actor , but I absolutely hate how the movie version of Mystique looks ( although it's obvious from the body that the actress is in good shape and such ) ...in my opinion if they can't get the movie version to look as good as the comic book version , then just keep Mystique out of the movies.  I'd be a bit sad if that happened but at least I wouldn't have to complain about her looking better in comic books...  I love the rest of the characters , I think the movie version of Wolverine looks better than the comic book version...of course he's not accurate in terms of how big he is but the attitude and basic look of the character ( in terms of hairstyle and such ) is dead on.  I love the new X Men but I think it would fun to watch a movie with the "cheesy / old school" versions of the costumes too.

Besides, it took several years for the curse to affect Mr. Reeves.
There's still time.

Queen Kara: I thought the X-Men movies were quite cheesy still...

Regarding Superman it might actually be nice to team him up with a black chick just to tone down the Nitzchean overtones of the character. I mean... Superman translated directly to/from "übermensch". A white Adonis, superior in every way.
This is of course a bit tounge-in-cheek, but it isn't hard to see some unfortunate similarities to the white supremacy way of thought, accidental or not...

Get stuffed. It's Lando.

Actually, I had a debate with a friend of mine as to whether Lando was played by Billy Dee or Carl Weathers.

I said Billy Dee. And won.

I actually thought it was Apollo Creed... But I've googled for images and yes... He's Lando.

C'mon Kingsized! We're between friends and we may refer to someone like "That black guy who saved Luke in Bespin..." There's no need to google for names, or linking URLs as references, or quoting the sources... Even DG does not make it anymore...  ::)
