Why youtube? Why?

I went to youtube today to find that they had switched to a horrible design.

Does anyone know if they're just testing the design? Can you go back to the way it were before?

I've grown VERY sick of youTube lately... you go to their site and there are ads everywhere, then you attempt to start your video and guess what?  Commercials.

Now all video providers are doing this (following suit).  I just close the browser whenever a commercial starts.  I was able to tolerate it when it was just that little google popup over the bottom of the video that you could easily close but now they force commercials on you that you can't skip.  It's nothing but annoying.

My point?  Their new design doesn't matter to me :)

Use Adblock. It kills all the intrusive ones.

Adblock will remove the ads around the videos (on the HTML part of the page) but it won't stop the overlays on the videos (or the commercials before the videos).

I can ignore the ads on the page... but there's nothing you can do (AFAIK) about the ones covering your videos.

It's even better in Germany, where roughly 40% of all videos will tell you they are not available to you.  :P

New design doesn't look THAT bad in my opinion.

I'm fairly annoyed with the new design, because before where I could see in one glance what all my cool (AGS :P) friends uploaded/favourited or liked, now it is trying to copy facebook's update style (one update at a time, and you have to scroll down), so if there is one "commercial" channel you follow, chances are, it'll flood everything else out.

Exactly, and what have they put in the room which they save? "Connect to facebook and google+ and hoohoo and gobblediidoo"...
I spent an hour trying to find a button to turn everything back, but now I've given up hope :'(

This works.  It puts a little blue button just above the video which you can click during an advert and it skips to the main video.

As for the design, I don't really mind it much.  It's kind of more in line with G+ and other Google products which have been redesigned in the G+ mould.  Functionality-wise, nine times out of ten, if I'm on Youtube, I'm just following links or typing searches, so it makes little difference to me as long as I can watch the videos.

Youtube is like Facebook, who also switched to a horrible design lately.

I'm using Adblock Plus and it removes all the ads whether they're around, inside or before the videos. It might depends on your filter subscription (I use the one called "EasyList").

Here's something I figured out, if a video is blocked in the country you're in...download it with file2hd.com . I mean it's not really the nicest thing you could do but I was sick of seeing the 'unavailable in your country' page especially when you go back n forth between countries.

Tuomas

And this basically downloads it on your computer?

vertigoaddict

Yes, it does and it's not the most legally sound thing to do but as long as you don't redistribute it (re-upload) then it shouldn't be too big of a problem. If you just want to watch it once, just delete the file afterwards.

Bulbapuck

Don't know if I should post this seeing that the thread is now mostly about ads, but I found a way to get the old design back ;D
