Yay! But... what does this graph actually show?

It's quite similar to a stock market graph: it shows the evaluation of the board after each move; conventionally a pawn is worth "1 point. Blue line goes up? White is winning! Line goes down? Black is winning!

E.g: by looking at the graph we can say that after black fifth move (5,5 on x axis), white had a good position (line goes up to 4 points), but we failed to capitalise on our move (6), so the line went back to almost 0 (equal position).

Just gonna quote myself here:

I had an idea for the next round; we could sort the team members according to their timezones to up the chances of them being awake when it's their turn.

Good idea, but when someone is skipped, the order will get mixed up.
A better solution is that everyone, who is not going to be online for his move has to state that in the thread or pm bicilotti (or whoever is going to be the host).

Ok, little puzzle / post-mortem analysis for chess aficionados...

Black just played ...Qg5 ...f6.

What's a very clever move for white?

Actually, the move that lead to this situation was black f6. On topic: I have no idea  :(

Dude, do that second move and look at the consequence. That black queen is going down.

EDIT: Apart from in a couple of cases, but then, its a free bishop.

He'll just trade queens and then move his bishop.

The diagram bici just edited it to has the solution d4 on the other hand :p

And she can still get our queen.  ;)

Yes, d4 would attack the black queen and the black bishop, forcing the black player to sacrifice one piece to save the other.

As for the next round, I'd propose to set up the teams, and let each team discuss and post their best move in a day. The bonus is that not all team mebers need to be present for the group to decide their move. I suppose having seperate rooms for talking out strategy on IRC would do the trick (and populate that lively place even more), for each team. Ofcourse, nothing is stoping either team to set up their own communication channels.
I figure this mode of play would eliminate most of the bad moves, as the more expirienced players would spot bad moves (from the less expirienced team mebers) and propose something else. This is me referencing some realy bad moves that ruined the game (or made it to easy, depending on white side you were on) we just played.

The only two bad sides I can see is that people might have difficulty agreeing in the time frame given (a day) or one team having an exuisite chess player that the other team, even combined,  can't outmach. (iI'm looking at you, italian guy =P )

So, dunno, maybe having the host play the move for the team that didn't meet the deadline (if it didn't), to solve the first problem, and ranking all entrants by their skill, spliting them up in a balanced way to the teams would help the other problem not showing up. Which leads us to figuring out how to rank the players.

Heh, maybe we could all be honest and try to approximate our playing level, or having a set of ranked chess problems that each player must try to solve, and basing their rank on the results.

Well, ofcourse, I'm not hosting it, so take it all just like a suggestion bic.

Having the team play as a whole would definitely eliminate those poor judgments or over eagerness to take a valuable piece just to have it sacrificed afterward... "TAKE THE QUEEN.. QUEEN FOR QUEEN!" I'm not sure who that guy was...  ::)  haha

Anyway, if the team did play as a whole, I'd have to bow out of the match. I don't have a whole lot of time to communicate on IRC and stuff lately.
But I'd gladly play again if the next round plays the same as this.

Dualnames

I second Ryan's opinion. It's better this way, even if nobody did what I expect them to. That's the magic of the game. :D
