I added a character sketch of (left to right) Minion 13 (in uniform) Minon 7, and Doctor Destruction.  Also have another painted background.

A question:

I realize that I'm doing domething different here with higher res graphics and the painted, high color style.  Is there an audience for this?  I notice lots more people use the 256 color pixelated look.

With AGS, I'm basically looking for a way to bring my artwork to life as a game, rather than trying to re-create an old-school graphic adventure game.  Is this an effort that will be accepted or frowned upon?

Has this style been tried before?

Thanks in advance for any comments and suggestions.

Heh do whatever you like for your art, it's just a matter of style. As long as you make the size of the graphics right, style doesn't matter. So use whatever style you think that seems fit.

By the way, great characters, keep it on!

MrColossal

if someone doesn't like your game cause the art is different from a LucasArts one

screw them hardcore like Quick Draw McGraw

no one is here to condemn your game [unless you're vel, for some reason that is beyond me.] and everyone is eager to get any game they play

i enjoy the art very much and look forward to whatever you do

the first background in the lab is really nice

Very Cool, I like your style
just watch your side walk cycle, it's missing the "bounce" on his step that he has on the front view, but other than that very cool style and art.

I really love those backgrounds. I agree about the sidewalk...

This sounds a little bit like the game I've been planning to make for what must be over a year now...

Actually the front walk cycle is a second draft (with help from Mr. Colossal) while the side walk has yet to be updated.  I shifted from doing character animations to backgrounds and plotting, which is why I haven't updated it yet.  Thanks for the words of encouragement folks!

More to come.

I love the characters and art, so much better than mine. :P I love the first room and the 3 evil looking dudes :P

Man, if you have a doubt about Adventure graphics with that hi-res painting style, look at CMI... It is perfect, nobody is going to blame you. :)

I like it all, except the side walk animation, but, well, that has been told before, I just want to encourage you to carry on with the god work.
Are you guys ready? Let' s roll!

Teh Crabe, are you looking for a good host? Because my host would be very happy to host you. He'd be willing to setup anything you need like forums aswell. I can't wait to see more of this game,  I love your art and I think it'll be a pretty good game. I'm surely hyped up for it.  8)

auhsor

That is an awsome style. The backgrounds look good. I'll be lookin foreward to this game.

Skillfully done. Keep up the good work, it's a heady mix of realism and cartoon. I like this alot, despite the somewhat RPG-feel I'm getting from the screenshots. But it looks good.

So it's clear that you don't like RPGs, but that's not what I'm shooting for.  What is it that feels like an RPG to you?

The backgrounds are way too saturated imo. I like the style though.
Looking for a writer

Crabe: Not quite. I'm not an avid fan of RPGs, but I don't actively dislike them. What I meant was it looks like it may be a bit hard to put it into an adventure game, what with a big boss-like character as the alien chap. Futuristic space games are easy to make when humourous, but serious futuristic games are quite hard to make an adventure from. I should know, I'm doing one and it's very hard to think up puzzles. They're turning out somewhat similiar to the puzzles in Myst at the moment. Anyhow, I may be wrong and you may be making a funny game. It's just the style suggests a serious one.

...........good backgrounds mate......make the play game as good as you graphics and you can`t go wrong....
