Hello, yes I understand this is a forum about Adventure games, not RPGs. But I really came here for some art tips since I am a total N00B at drawing character sprites. I am very sorry if what I am posting is wrong, but I don't know where to turn to. Yes I am using RM2k3 I am a n00b. But again, please try to help atleast some, lol.

Here is my first battle sprite attempt: http://woothinkinc.o-f.com/Index.html

What I am asking is on how to make him slash down and actually look good doing it. And maybe some tips that I could use as a template in making these sprites. Again, I am a total n00b so bare with me. By the way, I am limited to 48x48 frames. Also I use iDraw to design the sprites.

Thank you again for listen, I hope you can help me out.

EDIT: Ah man I am sorry, please move this to the Critics Lounge. I JUST saw it right after I posted this. Sorry about that.

Maybe the Pixelation Forums  would better because they aren't AGS oriented, but meh, meh, nevermind that.

About the slashing, I think it would be really easy, Just make him put that sword back over his head, hold it a little, then draw him in a crouched position with the sword through the ground. Then make a white trail behind the sword then make it fade out really cool like. I bet that would look decent.

Nice sprites though man, I really like them.

Thanks alot! It took me a while to make the idle stance but I did it. I am happy you like it.

About the sword over the head, you have to remember I am limited to a 48x48 frame, also I have to draw the entire sword in the frame each time. The slashing down sounds cool, but a problem is I am still a n00b at drawing sprites so I wouldn't know how to do that and make him look decent. I don't know how to position the sprite differently and make him look the same. What I need is someone to teach me some things. Only a starting point, so I can practice on my own. Because I plan on making 7 other characters like this one, all with atleast 4 different animations. So yes, I need some help, lol.

Very nice!

I also use RPG2003... or whatever the new one is called. I loveeee it. Anyway, You could either make the sprites slightly smaller so that the sword fits... or perhaps when he slashes, have him lean back/bend his knees so that there is more room for the sword in front of him. I've only messed around vaguely with the new battle system in the new RPGMaker release, so I'm not exactly sure how you would solve this problem.

EIT: Here we go. Sorry, I did this quickly so it's stiff and lacks movement and detail and actually, it's crap. But you get the idea. Hopefully.

In the first frame he's standing. In the second frame he's got the sword raised above his head behind his back. This'll give you more room. In the third frame he's bent down to strike, and in the last frame I gave up.

EDIT2: Wait... wait... I was wrong.. in the 3rd frame, he's dumping a load.

I get what you mean, that's really helpful. Thanks for the visual aid. And the dumping. Lol.

That's cool and all, but still the problem remains: I can't draw sprites well. It was a fluke I made it that good in that position. So I doubt I can do something like that again. Even make it smaller. So... If someone could help me on this. I would be much apriciative.
