yeah, Rum is my most hated of alcoholic beverages. It makes me want to regurgitate. Even just the smell of it. Brown rum that is. white rum like bacardi and the like is fine.

Let me see...
IMO
Nothing beats Sierra Nevada, Saranac Pale Ale, or a good gin and tonic...

The classic, of course, is to take one of those little Dole juice bottles, drink half of it, fill the other half with vodka or 151, and shake it up a bit. That should keep you happy on the way to the party. :)

EDIT: Has anyone ever had pastis before? Nasty stuff, made from anise seeds, I think. Tastes like black licorice.

Pastis is quite common here. If you don't know what it is, maybe you've heard of Ricard, it's a famous brand.
I don't drink it, or anisette or any anise-based alcohol.
Kinda nasty, yes. But it's supposed to be cut with a lot of water and served with sugar.

AGA

Well sambucca is drunk neat. You pour a shot of it, light it on fire, put your hand over the glass (this forms a seal and sort makes the glass stick to your hand), and smack your hand down on the table. Then you drink it. It tastes horrible, but it's quite impressive to see.

Now this is a topic of my taste!I consider myself an expert when it comes to beer ;)

I´m into lagers and my all time favourite would be Pilsner Urquell with Budweiser (the original one from Ceske Budejovice - Budweis) as a close runner up.

For everybody not acquainted with those, they are from the Czech Republic and  I highly recommend to try them both.

The first one is quite crisp and  tastes a bit bitter. It gave name to all Pilsner beers around the world since it´s was the first beer of this "base fermented "style. It´s brewed in the town of Pilsen. It´s the only beer that can use the word "Pilsner" as a trade mark, others can just add "pilsener beer" after their name. (I hate to see Miller referring their products as "true Pilsner" - yuck!)

The other one - Budweiser, or Budvar in Czech is a beer from town of Budweis (surprisingly) and this is what Mr. Anhauser tasted on his educational trip to Europe and wanted to copy after he started brewing his beer.  It´s mellow, sweetish and overally pleasant. There has been brewery in Budweis for over 700 years now so I guess they should have some experience. (Americans note that it´s sold under name of Czechvar in the U.S. due to legal fight between the two breweries - in some countries American Budweiser is entitled to use the trademark, in some Czech brewery) Pilsner Urquell is available at many places in the U.S.A. so it shouldn´t be a problem to get it, it only tends to be one of the most expensive brands.

As for American beers, I never grew fond of all American brands while in the States Miller, Coors, Pabst... watery and empty, can´t help myself. Only maybe Budweiser is a bit better but dtill doesn´t match the qualities of the original. ;D Local and microbrews are something different though. I found a particular interest in all Widmer Brothers products while in Seattle (I believe this beer is from Portland, OR) and Fat Tire was far from being disgusting... ;)

I used to be a big beer drinker during my college days, I could have knocked down ten pints an evening and walk away like nothing has happened. Sometimes I could get as far as twenty... (shitfaced though ;D) No wonder Czechs are the biggest beer drinkers in the world (with average anual consumption of 165 litres of beer -  some 45 gallons - per capita)  We consider beer our national treasure and it´s even the cheapest drink in pubs by far over here! And by drinks I mean alcohol free beverages like soda too. Including bottled water! Yes, the beer is cheaper than water. And it´s a top quality stuff. Now, is there any reason to drink anything else?

But there is a true gem amongst all beers worldwide - STEEL RESERVE

A finnish commercial says:
" A finnish man is more comfortable with opening an Otto Lonkero, than finnish litterature ( insert picture of blindfolded man pushing a pile of phonebooks from the table )"

I intend to believe that commercial... But I haven't tasted Otto... yet.

I love doing that. Though, I must admit that I normally hate sambucca...

Back to topic, my favorite is Budweiser, as plain as that may sound. I've tried everything, and Bud is the least bitter and best-tasting. And is it just me, or does Guinness just taste like water with a slight aftertaste?

I drink a lot of dutch beers.

They remind me of family.

If not that, then shots of tequila.

If not that, whatever I can get my grubby little fingers on.

Hail to you DG :)

blaaargh I hate beer..... uhm.....
* N3TGraph looks at his pictures

maybe not :P

Anyway, I like allmost all beers, disregarding brands or flavours - I like it all :)

okay so I like some beers better then the others:
I like corona very much
I also like Warsteiner a lot!

but most of the time I just drink Heineken (dutch pride :P), just because it's the most common beer in Holland and because it's good beer!  :)

Went to a few different pubs tonight, went out in Sydney to The Rocks, which is a real touristy place where most of the people you meet are from the UK.

There's many international pubs ie Irish, German, Australian. etc

We started out at this one called 'The Australian' like as if we didn't know we were already there, but I was surprised, they sold Gourmet  Pizzas with some odd toppings. eg. Crocodile, Kangaroo & Emu, like as if I'd eat native animals. I'd rather eat those ones that grow on trees, ie Cows, Pigs, Chickens and Sheep (those deadly animals that run away really fast)

Anyway, I didn't eat there. Eventually we ended up at this German Pub called 'The Lowenbrau' which had bar staff in traditional German outfits and sold expensive German beers (not necessarily good beers but they just charged a lot), seeing as it was something different, I had a Lowenbrau Dark, a dark malty type beer, not bad but nothing that exciting. I don't know if this is excepted in Germany, but the main thing that pissed me off was the amount of head on the beers (it's probably just to rip you off) but you by a 0.5 litre beer expecting to get around 500mls but you probably get about 400mls plus some fucking froth, no wonder europeans think they drink a lot.

The music was exciting too, it was also German, with these new bands I'd never hear of like ABBA, Britney Speers, Eminem, Vanilla Ice, quite entertaining.

In conclusion, If I really want to find out about German pubs, it would be best achieved in Germany, and If anyone wants to find out about Australian pubs, I wouldn't go to 'The Australian'

But The Rocks is a good place to go to meet and get drunk with tourists in Sydney. It actually was a good night.
