Davis, you're a f***ing idiot.

::)

I'd like to see an AGS comic book style game though, I think it could be fun to play. Though, would you have to break out of every box with bits of storyline occuring in each box? Would you only have to solve how to get out of the first box and then the story continues, etc. I haven't played the game people had mentioned which is similar to this idea so I have no idea how it'd work in an adventure game setting.

Davis

Well that is your opinion sir, and while I certainly do not agree I will defend to the death your right to say it!

As for the game, it was a lame Genesis side scroller where you A B buttoned your way across a "panel," where the background was some comicy looking environment and when you reached the white line, you just jumped it into the next panel, where you would fight some more bad guys. A la Double Dragon, Battle Toads, Marky Mark's Funky Fighting Adventure featuring the Fighting Funky Bunch... you know, the old classics.
"So I've proved my point a thousand fold," snorts Davis. "Ho ho."

Davis, I believe he was joking.
And I quite like the game. But the only reason I reacted is that he tried to say that it was his idea first. If he just said he was trying to emulate, or make a sequel to Comix Zone, I would have been fine. And yes, this has been done before Comix Zone, but if you've played the game, you would understand the blantant rip-off.
- Oh great, I'm stuck in colonial times, tentacles are taking over the world, and now the toilets backing up.
- No, I mean it's really STUCK. Like adventure-game stuck.

I think he was joking too, but I'm not sure. Either way, it's so hard to tell how someone meant something to sound on a message board, or online chat.

I meant 'Well that is your opinion sir, and while I certainly do not agree I will defend to the death your right to say it!' to be "read" to sound as if a foppish troubadour were saying it, like the fat moustached chef on the Simpsons who always says, "Mmmmmyyyyyyeeeesssss!!"

Also, another fine point. If he had said, "Dude Comix Zone is like my favorite game, and I think finding a way to translate it's gameplay into AGS would be double awesome! Also a Captain Planet game would be triple awesome!" I think people would have reacted differently.
"So I've proved my point a thousand fold," snorts Davis. "Ho ho."

MrColossal

but you're being silly anyways, you had NO idea that he played Comix Zone or that he ever heard of it.

If I tell you I want to make a game involving a city being taken over by the devil and a series of people not really knowing each other are drawn to the city to destroy the evil and you tell me "Hey idiot! That's the plot to 'Evil City 2: Gonna Getcha! Stop ripping it off!!" and I've never seen Evil City 2 or Evil City 1 for that matter then you aren't being fair

why don't people jump on the games in production thread and yell at all the people doing fantasy games " A WIZARD'S APPRENTICE SAVING THE DAY?!?! GET ORIGINAL!!!11"

Anyway, I think it would be really interesting to do this with an adventure game however in a platformer like Comix Zone the repetition of jumping from panel to panel is more accepted. In a game like this breaking through panels I feel would get boring to constantly write for

"Ok, so to get through panel 20 he has to... Um... Cut it with scissors!! Oh no wait, did that already... Maybe he waits 50 years for the comic page to deteriorate because the owner didn't put it in an acid free plastic bag!"
"This must be a good time to live in, since Eric bothers to stay here at all"-CJ also: ACHTUNG FRANZ!
