Hey folks. I had wat i think was a pretty good idea for a game. I wont post the whole thing coz if i finish it then people will know what happens. anyways here what will possible happen in part 1

"Man haves weird dreams/visions about crying out in pain. he feels as though some force is telling him to figure it out. all the signs point to a church in the nearby town. there he finds a delusional priest who is babbling on (probably in Latin) about a demon with red eyes. then the priest dies or passes out and thrusts a pocket book into the mans hand. on closer examination of the pocket book, there in lies a plane ticket, and a church brochure written in Romanian. on the way back to his home he appears to be followed. as he opens his front door he gets knocked out. he awakens a few hours later. his house is trashed and there appears to be a blood splatter on the floor but it isn't from him. his phone starts ringing, after he answers it is a detective threatening (?) him. fearing that he will be framed for a murder he takes the plane ticket and heads to Romania."

But im not sure if my drawing 'skills'(ha yeah right) are suited to this kind of project. any ideas (that dont require me to pay people or get others to do the graphix for me)?

ok looks good but if you want to improve it, take a look around the critics lounge at other peoples art and use ideas in your art,

I think if the art was used on a different project it'd be ace - i really like it. But it doesn't fit the story. Less bold, contrasting colours - more realistic colours - more shading - less black outlines....

You should maybe go for a more gothic architecture like in old english or german cathedrals. Use less bright colors, maybe for the walls only bluish shades of gray or so... Maybe just google for cathedral images and trace?
Otherwise, the idea is cool and has something reminding of 'Gabriel Knight'...

ha ha a game involving romania... how sweet.  ::)

just make sure you don't include anything that's not real and that the words in the brochure are romanian and they make sense, otherwise i'll personally lynch your a**

i don't know what your image about my country is and i don't want to find out, so why don't you just invent a fantasy location or smth...

or i could just not play the game :P

sorry for the intrusion :)

hahahah... I like the screenie. Kind of like a retro-early King's Quest thing. Of course, if you want it to be a more serious game, you should make it darker more shadowy feel (as suggested here). Oh, and btw, just a tiny nitpicky thing...I think crosses are meant to be a specific length, and the "arms" on yours seem a little longer than normal

For me the key issue with the screenshot is that it's not a Catholic church yet your priest will be speaking Latin.

Bare walls says methodist, brightly coloured walls shouts evangelist or somesuch. I'm also not sure what a priest would make of red candles. To make a few generalisations, Catholic churches are grand, with bare stone not plaster, gaudy trinkets all over the place and a figure of Christ on the crucifix, not a bare cross.

You ask for alternatives to this kind of art - that depends where you live. I live in York which has lots of locations that would be of use to you, but I'm afraid I don't have a digital camera (or any camera for that matter) otherwise I'd snap you up some backdrops. If you don't live in Europe or you live in a big city, why not pursuade generous historical-city-inhabiting AGSers to take some photos you could use?

EDIT: The new colours are a great improvement - much more natural! With this update it would be a relatively simple matter to add a few well placed shadows to give it a gloomier atmosphere. Sorry I was wrong about the candle!

Thanks man theres some good comments there. the red candle thingy is supposed to be a tabanackel(prolly spelt wrong), which pretty much all catholic churches have(or at least all the ones ive been in have.

Anyway heres a newer screenshot that have kinda more realisitic colors. unfortunatly shading isnt my strong point, so there is none...yet. I know i should look at some tutorials but oh well. anyway this pic fixes up a couple things (eg. color and the crucifix arms(?they called arms?) length) thanks for u guys help so far.

(this was only a quick concept picture to how the priest is laying dead. Keep in mind that pic is only CONCEPT!)

the new colours look 1,000,000 times better. Perhaps some more greys aswel as browns and try some shading - you will still be able to keep your art style if you add effective shading
