But Perseida and Leónidas happen every year, Darth...Ã,  :)
Yes, but those years were the 'strongest' displays of them (or so I was told) in recent history.Ã,  I could be mistaken?

They are activating the EOC (Emergency Operations Center) at 5am (thursday morning) and are expecting to put us under a hurrican watch later tonight (Wednesday).

Tiki - yes I'm in the city limits of Davie, but my address is a Ft. Lauderdale address.Ã,  I think we're far enough inland that we don't have to worry about an evacuation though.Ã,  Which is good, cause I wouldn't want to leave anyway.

Tiki

DM:Ã,  How far away are you from the general CS area?

Hey, I lived through Hurricane Andrew, I think I this will be a piece of cake.

A very windy cake, that is.Ã,  That moves quickly, and swirls around, and throws cows and ruins homes and...

I haven't,

trust me, you have. They happen every day, everywhere

Grundislav

Yeah I think us folks that lived through Ol' Andy see every other storm as a moderate gale.  Although, Frances is pretty well-formed, much like Andrew was.

These big storms should have less wimpy names.  It's been said millions of times, but I want my house to be levelled by Hurricane Attila, not Frances. That sounds like somebody's ancient auntie who brings you cookies.

Andail

...although "Ol' Andy" sounds mighty impressive to me, I must say.

"Hurricane LeChuck"

"My house was levelled by hurricane LeChuck, the crusty ol' bastard"

When I was first crafting this thread I said much the same thing.Ã,  Why couldn't it be hurricane Genghis Kahn or hurricane Conan.Ã,  Something manly and threatening sounding.

But I didn't want to offend anybody reading this who might happen to have the name Frances.

But since you did it ...

rodekill

I was in an ice storm.
It was cool-ass.

Of course, I wasn't saying that at the time, when we didn't have electricity for a few weeks.

But now, in retrospect... COOL-ASS.
SHAWNO NEWS FLASH: Rodekill.com, not updated because I suck at animation. Long story.

I've marked 3 places.

Red Dot: That "famous" 1989 one in San Fransisco that was about 7.1 on the richter scale. (I was a fetus at the time.)

Pink Dot: Last December, there was a 6.4 one up where I dotted (near Cambria).  I normally live much further down from there, but I just happened to be staying at my grandparent's house, and they live about 10 miles away.

Blue Dot:  That's where I live.  As you can see, not much happeneing around me.

As you can see, there have been many earthquakes for the last 24 hours, but still its fun to be here.  ;D
I fail at art.

MAN!!  This is insane down here!

People are running around like it's kingdom come or something.

Armegeddon is fast approaching.

I'm documenting it all (taking lots of pictures!)  As soon as this thing blows over (literally) I'll post some of them up!

(Is it wrong of me to be enjoying this??)

dasjoe

nah, you're just a stormhunter or what they're called. m0ds erm midis does that stuff iirc.

Man, all the Home Depots have full parking lots, empty shelves, and lines out to the street, nearly.  The gas stations either have 20 cars in a line, or they are completely out of gas.  The highways heading North and just insane, but heading south is quite empty, I must say.

I've spent the last 5 - 6 hours helping my grandparents in Delray Beach.  They haven't used some of those shutters in a decade, and my Grandpa broke his arm this week trying to get some of them up.

Now, I just need to spend this afternoon getting my shutters up.  Thankfully, they are the accordian type, so it should be somewhat easy.  My mom is hopefully flying out to Indiana tomorrow morning, to catch my Aunt's wedding.

I doubt you guys will be hearing from me for a few days at least, except for today and maybe the wee hours of tomorrow.

Gah, good luck to the other Floridians/Future storm victums.

Its the Apocoly- ..Ooh, wait, is that ice-cream?

I decided to head out to see what was going on around town ...

No too ominous ... yet.

The local market was jammed and most of the shelves were empty!!

Decided to get some petrol.Ã,  I was waiting in line at the station for well over an hour.Ã,  And this is no joke, the pumps ran out AS I was topping off my tank!!

And this wasn't even the worst that it got ... the rest of the free space filled up too.Ã,  I had to yell at several people who were trying to cut in line.

It was hairs breath from falling apart ... crazy stuff!!

Tiki - Yeah, my dad was boarding up his offices (he's in Pompano Beach, right under the gun!) and he said Home Depot was a mad house!!Ã,  Anyway ... good luck man!

Raggit

I hope everything is okay down your way, Darth.  Hehehe, I'd take EvenWolf's advice and point some fans towards the shore!! :)

Ye best get an anchor!

I notice that noone in that supermarket shot is buying magazines. What, noone thinks they'll need reading material while all this is happening?

Sara and I decided to head East (toward the Atlantic) to see what we could see over the waves.Ã,  This was as close as we got ... They weren't letting anybody through.

I think the owner of this miami subs should win a Darwin award 'cause that's just not gonna help much buddy!!

The wind started kicking up while we were out:

You could really see the wall of the hurricane as we were headed home:

I found a way onto the roof of my building:

EDIT - screw this storm ... it's downgraded to a category 2 and is stalling over the bahamas.Ã,  Now all we're going to get is a bad thunderstorm for several days.Ã,

I feel jipped ...

Well, there's always Ivan.Ã,  Here's hoping.

Darth (with no power!!)

Well I am alive :)

I'm at my mother's house.Ã,  They sustained more damage than we did but they still have power.Ã,  I, however, do not.Ã,  I'm going nuts without power.

I got a few good pictures of the aftermath which I'll post soon.

It got REALLY windy and rained more that I thought it would so now I'm even more curious to see a stronger storm.

Tiki - Coral Springs got hit harder than we did ... you still with us?
