Okay, here's a 320x200 256 color-style background I made recently.

It feels kinda of empty to me, so I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what might be able to be done.

This area is a cliff overlooking the sea behind a building.

Thanks!

I think a pier or two, might look good at the sea. And somekind of ship of course.

Hmm.. And maybe a window to that wall.

But other than that, it's great. It has the right feeling in it.

Maybe some planks of wood against the wall or on a barel. A few tufts of grass or rocks might be good too, or some cracks in the dry ground. The overall composition is nice, however something about the angle of the wall is giving it a weird effect.

How about a crate right in the middle

how about some glitter in the water, some whispy clouds in the sky (and more whitish sky), more detail in the tree (define the branches better and hint at the bark), instead of having flat ground, make the ground variagated and covered in pebbles and rotting wood and crap, how about a big pile of old fishing junk that is against the building and pretty much make the whole area filled with junk :P

i must say though...i think i would rather see it from an angle where i can see over the majesty of the cliff

your drawing skills on the wall and dirtyness of things loo kvery good

Well, actually, another screen looks over the cliff, so hopefully I'll make that one soon!

As for the ground, I have to learn to vegetate it and pebble it up... I guess I'm going to trial and error that one!

I like the idea of planks of wood against the wall, I'll add that - and a crate, too.

If anyone has a paintover idea, you are more than welcome to show me.

It's late for me, and I'll work on it more later!  But thank you very much, all!

Okay,

I took some suggestions and tried to implement them.

Any other suggestions?  Paintovers welcome.

That little bush looks lonely. Maybe a friend or two for him?

The Planks need shadows on the wall and they are too bright, the grass looks too green, maybe you could spread it more and adjust the colour. What about some ropes on the floor?
if your grandmother or any other member of your family should die whilst in the shelter, put them outside, but remember to tag them first for identification purposes

It still looks like somebody goes in there and sweeps the dirt every day at noon.

Real ground is not flat....#1 priority is to make that ground look slopey.  Then add rocks and rubble, and 10 times more garbage!  That's my opinion.

It's coming along nicely, Blackthorne.

One thing that stands out to me is that the BG looks like a stage set. I think it's mainly because of the "shadow" that goes from the top right corner in a big arc to the bottom right. You know what I mean? The darker part of the sky that blends into the darker part on the side of the building. Makes it look like the sky is actuall a wall that forms a corner with the wall of the building.
