Three nice women

Here's main sprites of three women characters for my game Caribbean Mysteries. The reasons for showing them are different. The first one: the cliffguard, is a minor character who guards a toll for a cliff with a very nice veiw (not in AGS tems, of course). The reason for showing her is that I'm not satisfied with her. She does look very strange to me. I know her legs are unusually long compaired with her body but I don't know how to make her look better.

The second one is the daughter of a native tribe chief and is the beautifulest women in the village (and in the game tooÃ,  ;) ), Princess Trinidad. Actually, I really like her but I'm not sure how to make the lips look correct. Otherwise I like her like she is.

The third one is the love of the main-character and mayor character in the story. Her name is Leslie Quality and is the governor's daughter (no, it has nothing to do with Pirates of the Caribbean because I wrote the story and puzzles in 2000.). I want her to look very nice but somehow the mouth doesn't look right. Otherwise I think she looks good.

Let me hear your oppinons, fellow AGS-ers.

EDIT: Sorry, it slipped through my mind. Anyway, here's all 3 women.

Babar

It is a BMP, but I only see 1 woman. Shorts and a Tshirt seem rather odd for a Caribbean game, unless it is set in the present.

Pretty nice pixel art, but the first thing I notice is that she looks like she's either really surprised, or falling backward, or something.  She ppears to have her legs slightly bowed (facing in oposite directions).
That's like looking through a microscope at a bacterial culture and seeing a THOUSAND DANCING HAMSTERS!

Your whole planet is gonna blow up!  Your whole DAMN planet...

Mats Berglinn

Yeah, the game is in the present, not in the 18:th century like the Monkey Island games.

Hollister Man: Any suggestion of change for Leslie's legs?

Janik

The arms aren't in a very natural resting position, you might put one closer to the body, asymetrically or something.

I really like Princess Trinidad.  I personally wouldn't change the lips at all, except to make them match her skin tone a bit more- maybe a darker shade of red.  The feet and legs are the best of the three- she isn't bowlegged like the other two are. I also like her jewelry. She does seem a bit cross eyed, though.

However, I just handed in my last essay for this semester, so I've got time to do paintovers. Which I have.

1. Got rid of the lower black line around the eye. At the scale you're using, even 1 pixel ends up looking really thick.

2. Raised the mouth a bit, took off the top pixels .  According to my artists anatomy book, smiles that really turn up and aren't just an illusion created by the curve of the head are the rarest kind.

3. Brought the legs closer together. When someone is standing normally, the thighs usually touch.  Unless they're a skeleton.

4. Added a flare on the pants legs. Unless they're supposed to be tucked in her boots. Then ignore that.

Well, I was having so much fun on her that I took a shot at Leslie.

1.I did the same sort of treatment to the eyes on her as I did no the guard- got rid of the bottom black (and the eyelashes, in this case) and changed the shape a bit.

1.5. Don't know why I didn't number this, as this is what you were asking for help with. I think the problem with the mouth was where you started the curve of the smile. Instead of having the extra pixel at the ends of the red lips, I just started the curve from there. I also shrunk her cupids bow (the curvy bits on the upper lip) to one pixel instead of two.

2. Lowered the collar on the shirt by about a pixel, and made it more rounded.  If it was that high, it would be cutting off her windpipe.

3. Lowered and rounded the hem of her shirt to create a greater sense of her being 3D. Realized I should have done that to the guard's belt, too.

4. Brought her legs closer together, the same way I did on the guard. Got a bit carried away and also added a bit of a flare to the shorts.  I like baggy clothing, so sue me!

5. Thickened her legs by 1 pixel so they were more in proportion to her arms.

You have a bunch of really solid sprites here.  Just keep the legs closer together and they'll be awesome. Everything else I did was finiky bits.

Nice corrections Dragon.  The fupa is optional.  You might also want to consider relaxing the arms as well.

Mats Berglinn

Thanks for the feedback. Big thanks to you Dragonrose!Ã,  :D

Here I tried to make the arms relaxed for the cliffguard and Leslie:

So, what do you think of the arms?

stuh505

The arms themselves look good, but with changing the angle of the arms, you also need to redraw the hands.  They are flaring out; think about the natural position that your hands wrists and fingers fall into when they hang at your sides.

Thanks for the inspiration Mr. Colossal.

Here's my new version with relaxed hands:

stuh505

It's amazing how many different models they pose for reference at that fineart place, a good reference.

Berglinn, it looks better but I don't think we're there yet.  You have the backs of the hands as normal to the page; they should be rotated another 90 degrees so that the backs of the hands are perpendicular to the page and the thumb is in front.

Eggie

Yes, it would be nice they had them posing in a few different positions, though...
Rather than different models all standing in exactly the same way.

Mats Berglinn

I have tried to change their hands. How is that?

Secret Fawful

It doesn't look like a woman still. Something is wrong.

Babar

define the bodies a bit more. You know.. the hourglass figure. Also, the breasts at the moment seem a bit odd. The toll woman's breasts seem a bit high. The link Eric provided is a good reference for how all the curves go.
The Governers daughter's fringe seems to be part of the hair flowing behind her. Maybe you could define it a bit more, and round it a bit.

Here's a new edit of the Cliffguard.

I don't see what's wrong with Leslie's hair. It is suppoused to be long hair, not short like the Cliffguard.
