Ok for my computer class, we use this program called TurboC++. And it is also required for us to download it off the internet, from our teachers webpage, to use at home. I downloaded the program and it worked for only a week, but after that it stopped running and shows this error message:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows Applications

I ask the teacher and he doesn't really know whats wrong. My computer is Windows XP Home Edition. Does anyone know what should I do or can help me, I have 3 programs due tomorrow and I don't know what to do. Ã, Don't really know if I posted in the right forum, pretty new so go easy on me please.

This part of the forum is pretty much reserved for questions regarding AGS programming, etc...  so Turbo C is not really in the scope of this forum.  The General topics forum would have been a better bet.

Since I personally refuse to use XP I am probably not the best person to answer your question but I'll give it a shot anyway.   The first question to ask yourself is "What has changed since just before TC quit working?  Have you installed any other hardware or software or changed your profile or something?   Try uninstalling whatever was installed in the period.  Try to uninstall TC and then re-install it again.  Be sure to backup your programs in a different directory tree so that the uninstall doesn't delete your work.   Lastly open a dos window or command line window and run TC from the command line.   Hope this helps cheers.

Since it seems to be quite urgent, why dont you try that windows recovery-thing and go back a week or so?

Do you have school on Saturdays...? Ã, :o

One thing you can try if this kind of stuff comes to you the WinXP's compatibility mode, setting it to win98 has fixed may problems with the programs I use...
I used to make games but then I took an IRC in the knee.

Go into your windows folder, and find the folder labeled repair.Ã,  in it you'll find the file labeld AUTOEXEC.NT , and copy and paste it into your system 32 folder.Ã,  I get that a lot
For now, this is were I get off...

I had the same problem. That files is used by alot of old programs. I could copy the file like mentioned above but after a reboot the file would be gone again.  I ended up having to put in my xp cd and do a repair install to fix the problem. their are a few work around for this like make a batch file to copy the file from the repair folder on every boot up but a repair install of xp is probably the best bet. That is if in the case of my computer the file disappears after a reboot.

Yeah, thanks for the solution. I've been trying to fix this since I reinstalled my computer.
