Adventure Game Insanity

Oddly, iI've never had this with adventure games. I HAVE had repeated stressful dreams about stacking pills in Dr. Mario, though, and I've looked at real-wrold objects thinking "I could SO grind that" after I played too much Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2.

On the other hand, I am a voracious packrat, and maybe adventure games are to blame.

Amazing. Just today I was pressing the "open door" button on the train and I thought to myself, "I suppose I should make a check in rep_execute to see whether the train is moving AND the buyttons is pressed, and then check to see if thge door is open"... and I went on for about 15 seconds more before I realized this wasn't AGS.

Actually, I had a dream the other night where I was both IN an RPG and creating it in AGS at the same time, walking around and finding things I need to fix, better story elements... Id been working solidly on my RPG for days at that stage. Last night, I had another dream that I had finished my game, and was getting people to beta test for me while I went on some wild adventure.

I also have the thing where I try to work out how actions/movies/ads can be done in AGS. All the time, actually @_@

Scavenger

Amen, brother! And all that rot. I too am guilty. o.o

When I was little, I collected EVERYTHING. And I mean everything. If it was loose, I would take it, and use it. For example, instead of merely taking something from the other side of the table, I would rig up a net/lasso to catch it. Keys still in the door? A grappling hook'll take care of that! And why use the door when you can lever open a window instead? I still have that same urge sometimes. I hate easy.

Also, when I'm doing stuff, I have an inner status line which I murmur.
"Pick up soldering iron."
"Use soldering iron on circuit board"
"Go to tap."
"Run hand under water."

Man. I'm so messed up. And I still carry around useless items.

Oh, and one last thing. If something you are considering is totally futile or stupid, do you say to yourself: "That doesn't work." out loud?

Not to mention my undying urge to climb to lofty and dangerous places JUST because there's a tiny glint, and a mental tag saying: "Shiny"!

And making a 'Magic Map' in my head so I can go to places I've already been quickly!

And thinking I have to get an obscure item for someone every time I ask them a favour.

And keeping all chainsaws out of gas.
It's all true. All of it.

Haddas

I sometimes suffer from Advinsanity.

Worst case wasn't related to adventure games though, but to Max Payne 2. I had been playing it for hours in one go, with cinema-mod (more bullet-time +100% more awesome in other ways). Try guessing how I was moving for the next hour after I stopped playing.

I've also been known to bunny-hop and side-strafe in public.

Redwall

You people scare me.

Although I reach out and try to hit "backspace" when writing something.

None of this has ever happened to me...

I do digital art a lot, though, and sometimes when something goes wrong when drawing on paper, my first reaction is reaching for ctrl+z...

Tiki

Well, this isn't Adventure Game related, but eh, it's not completely off topic.

After playing Grand Theft Auto games, I tend to have strange urges to smash into cop cars and pedestrians whenever I see them.  Luckily, I don't drive.

Rui 'Trovatore' Pires

Yikes. And people tell us that GTA is unrelated to violent impulses. ;)

I do the same thing with Simpsons: Hit and Run :) I also look at every car and imagine what its stats would be...

I think we get a mild case of derealization when we play video games.

When I played GTA3 and saw a fast car in real life, I wanted to steal it. Of course there is a big difference between THINKING it and DOING it.Ã,  Ã, [edit] Ã, ;)

Note the word "impulse". It does not denote actual, well, action. ::)

... your penis turns invisible?

I hate it when that happens.
Achtung Franz! The comic

Hollister Man

I've never had THAT happen! :)

As for Advinsanity, I have wished I'd saved my game, then realized I really couldn't have.  And that Ctrl-Z impulse, yeah, me too.
That's like looking through a microscope at a bacterial culture and seeing a THOUSAND DANCING HAMSTERS!

I've never had this happen with an adventure game. But almost 100% of the time after I read a good book. I'll find myself playing the narrator in my head as I go about my day.

Kind of strange he thought as he pressed the Post button.

InCreator

Adventure game? Nope.

But who else has created a new map for Duke Nukem 3D in his dream while sleeping? And more complex map that I could ever make, though I have some skills at this.

Oh hell, it was so clear. Just as I would've really used Build level editor.

I remember waking up and looking at the walls in my room. And wondering how could Duke have such a texture for walls, before realizing that I'm in reality now.

Em, this happened, when I was away from computer for 2 weeks.
