Would be the nice way to put it.  Oh man, and forget that there were like three hundred people in a crowded little room, very hot!  There was a granny there, a couple of guys who were already cops in another state - who I might add couldn't stop saying f*ck this and that over and over and such, and all kinds of others.  At first I worried that someone who was already a cop would have a better chance than me, but turns out that people who are already cops often don't do any better during the testing process than people who have never held a position as an officer before.  Haha, the guy with the naked girl tattooed on his arm will probably not get a position as the school officer, I don't know why.

So yah it was crazy...and guess what? They aren't hiring any of us anytime soon, so I have to go find another job in the meantime till this year long hiring process is finished.....

Recommendation noted.   Care to elaborate for fun's sake?

Well, number one, here in idaho (and other states I've heard) law enforcement are required to work 171 as opposed to the normal 160 hrs of the private sector. Also, many of the rights normal people have in there jobs simply do not exist for law enforcement. You can't strike at all, it's against the law. I've often been required to work 24 hours at a time with no overtime....overtime is pretty much nonexestant in law enforcement....they just give you time off later, when they want you to take it....(a lot of this is from my own agency, but a lot of it isn't confined to just there sadly)

Not to mention a normal person works for a private entity that respects the labor laws, law enforcement employers are typically copunty, city, or state and they can kinda bend the laws a little....One example is changes in pay and other things that normally require public meetings announced ahead of time to the employees, this dosen't seem to ever happen from my experience.....

thats just off the top of my head, I could go on, but I'm going out the door...

Just as a note, this is becoming more and more commonplace in general as companies become more and more, well, evil.

Haha rodekill, nicely put. Evil.  Anyway I'm not worried about it, brother is a cop, it's what I want to do and it'll be my fault whatever I decide to do so I'm cool with that.  Anyway I'm also out the door for now....later.

Just for the record... if you did get the job, you'd be a GOOD cop, right?

What? What is the point of getting a prominent(?) position in law enforcement if you can't abuse it? :P

The police where I'm from are a perfect example. They don't even try to hide it. A taxi driver I was with was hauled over by the police and told to "Pay up". While the taxi driver was handing over the money, he asked why the police did this sort of thing. The answer? "We didn't get bonuses this year".

You see this right here is something decent "cops" have to deal with all the time. I wasn't a cop. I was a sergeant in a jail. But, no matter who you talk too, youre the bad guy. The common person who dosen't get in trouble with the law, and the child molestor or wife beater all think of you as the bad guy. One day you hear a person complain the there ar too many cops on the road, and the next they complain that when they got in their fender bender, the cops took too long to get there.....dosen't make a lot of sense to me.

You see, I never wanted to be a cop. Ever. I never had anything against cops, never dealt with a "bad cop" either. When I was younger I played gigs in clubs and hung out with casaul drug users. I really didn't fit the law enforcement bill.  I just needed to support my family. Then with four and a half years I was second in command at a jail....Lots of stress there...Suddenly some guys hangs himself or somebody gets beat up or some other issue and you gotta figure it out. Well no thanks. Not anymore.

And I've never been happier, I'm currently without work and I know that this was for the best. I'm 27 and have grey hair because of this job.....

/end rant. A lot of this is specifically my agency though. Good luck, remember never to close yourself off from your family, be wary, because you can be attacked at any moment, and don't let it all bring you down....

Moresco

Wow Squinky, I'm sorry to hear about the grey hair.

For the record, I will be a good cop, yes.  I want to be a cop to become a public servant, it's a cops job to do more than uphold the law.  Hopefully, wherever I end up and whatever the circumstances, I'll be seen as a trusted, approachable person that anyone can call on when they need help.  That's all.  I'm not out to be one of those power figures.
