I'd studiously avoided them until a friend of mine made me listen to a whole album.  He was right! It's just about the most amusing thing on the damn planet.  Somehow I doubt it was meant to inspire giggles. Also, general amusement doesn't seem a good reason to purchase a Syndrome of a Down album.

Well, I listened to them quite a lot a few years ago, but then sort of "forgot" about them for a while, and just recently picked them up again after discussing them with the guitar player of our band. :) So it's kinda funny that you post a thread like this now. Heh.Ã,

Definately a good and original band with a whole bunch of great songs, if you ask me. Of all the bands in the very dubious so called nu-metal-movement, they're the only band that has ever really caught me. Maybe because they're the only ones who seem to have a sense of humour and are able to distance themselves a bit. :)

"Toxicity" is good, but I have to say that their debut is my personal favourite.

I thought it WAS meant to inspire giggles. You seen the video for Toxicity? The lead singer is psychotic.

I second. The music is some kind of agro-ska. Impossible to stand still too. And the lyrics is quite ok in some songs.. like 'Bounce'.. ingenious

"..She had so many friends.. *undescribable sound but similar to a chicken coop*.."

Ingenious!

I heard Bea Arthur on the radio talking about KFC's horrible treatment of the chickens they keep. I trust Bea Arthur! I shall not support KFC, though being vegetarian makes it extra easy :D

But the Zinger Tower burger is just so tasty!

Ok.. not a republican, and HATE George Bush... but don't care that much for System.  So that theory.. not true.

That being said, I agree with what they say, and I think they are amazing musicians... I'm just not into their type of music.  They are growing on me now, since they are my boyfriend's favorite band.  Metal in general is growing on me.  I actually am on a cd that is coming out this Thursday of an original Rock Opera.  It's a heavy metal rock opera... so my horizons are definately expanding!

Mind revealing who this mystery meat of rocking the opera artist, Potch?

Potch

Slypher, I wasn't quite sure what you were asking.... But I'll explain the Rock Opera in a bit more detail.

My friend wrote a rock opera for a masters thesis in communications.  He's had his own band for a long time, so he knows a lot of people in the area.  Anyway, he asked me to sing on it, which blew my mind, since I've mostly been a karaoke singer.  Granted I've won a few contests, but that's about it.  Anywho... he's got a lot of friends that a musicians, since he had a band of his own for awhile, and got some of the best musicians in town to play on the cd.  We had it recorded here in boise, and it was mastered in LA.  A few weeks ago we did three live shows, and sold out all three with a standing ovation every time... it was pretty incredible.  My friend is a freaking genius.  The stuff he wrote is great.  And don't let the word opera fool you... the music was about as far from opera as you can get.  We even had a screamer, who was from a band here in town called Sub*Vert that is kind of on the verge right now.  We are having a big cd release show at a club here in town this Thursday.  It's pretty exciting.  If you interested in learning more about it, there's a website... www.theerinys.com.  And after Thursday, the cd will be available on cdbaby.com.  so I went from singing ballads and country in the karaoke bars to rocking out with some of the best musicians in Boise.  It's all kind of surreal.

My apologies, I forgot an 'is' in there somewhere. Thanks, I'll check it out.

Why would you want to lock a thread of this magnitude? More can be learned in this single thread then 90% in this forum. Closing it is madness!

Las Naranjas

I agree, all this relevant and thoutful music discussion that's happened in the past 24 hours has turned this thread for the worse.

As far as Rock Opera goes, it can't possibly be worse than The Chronicles Of Life and Death.

You must be joking! That is one of the finest crafted pieces of artwork of our time.

The term 'Rock Opera' has always rubbed me funny. And what do we do when things rub us funny, class? We say 'No!' and call 911.

Isn't there some rule about not pretending to be a moderator?

Thought so...

System of a Down,

Sounds like the Forums about a week ago.  :)

As for the band, never heard their music at all.

I'm more into pop rock and easy listening 80's tunes like Hall & Oates & Journey.
