These images are works in progress and are untextured. I'd love to hear any thoughts on the modelling composition or what direction I should move in regarding texturing or lighting.

These images haven't been produced with a specific game in mind, I hope that isn't a problem.

The images are broken, but when I drag-n-dropped (and remove the anonymizer part) I could see them anyway.

WOW, they look almost like models and puppets - not at all like 3D. There's something very Tim Burton-like about the chair/phone as well as the character, and they remind me of his early animated film 'Vincent'.
Of course it doesn't hurt that Hector looks a lot like Peter Lorre :)

Awesome work man! I could easily see this style used in a game a la Discworld Noir.

Edit: To answer your question, I'd go for a "painted" look in the textures, as if these were actual models that had been handpainted. Perhaps you could scan some painted paper (acrylics or water colors) and apply them. I also think it's important to stay away from the usual shiny look of rendered images. The surfaces needs a dusty feel to them. Try to look at The Nightmare Before Christmas for inspiration. I think those colors and textures would suit these models.

Excellent stuff!

I dig the colors (or lack of) and agree with GG about the Burtonesque style.  Which is a very good thing.

I would love to see a game in this style!

Edit - just 'cause I dig the style, I posted them on my server for everybody's viewing pleasure!

Wow, neat. First thing that came to my mind when I saw the background: The Neverhood. Heh, I would love to see a game made in this style. Without textures you could achieve a very special atmoshpere. However, if you're going to texture them, do as GarageGothic said and stay away from the notorius shiny look. Soft, dusty and gloomy colours would suit these graphics best, I think.

Keep it up!

Arrghh. I am so jealous right now. Seriously, great stuff. For a specific style I'd advise something along the lines of DW Noir, Grim Fandango and Psychonauts. Some novelty gothic adventure, perhaps. I would be thrilled to see more of your work.

I couldn't get the second image to work but the chair image is incredible.

I love the kind of stark but detailed look. I agree with Darth and Petteri that this style would look great in a game.

Inspiring stuff.

Whats with the anominiser ad?

Anyway, I saw the character and he looks cool.  Really shifty and creepy.

Thanks for your thoughts guys and sorry for the link problems! Darth, thanks for making my pictures see-able. Yes I have seen one or two Tim Burton films and I may have been influenced by him... slightly.

I will look into dusty, paint-like textures. I'm worried that the character's jacket/coat/thing might be too plastic-like, so I'll look into what texturing can do for that. I'll post with an update in the not-too-distant future.

I'm glad you spotted that, I had Peter Lorre in mind while sketching. I also designed the eyes to sit inside the eye-sockets in the manner of Vincent-esque stop-motion animation.

I'm also out of ideas as to what the painting on the wall should show. A gothic blue cup? no...
