I also tend to do things, be positive that I did indeed do them, but run back to make sure anyway.  "Did I close that door?"  etc.

The exact same situation here... except it's mostly with me and my alarm clock. Like at night, I'll turn on the clock alarm and then scuttle off to bed. But then when I'm under my covers and I'm about to fall asleep, I'll ask myself "Did I REALLY turn on my alarm? I don't want to be late!" and then I'll get out of bed and check. Then I'll once again almost fall asleep in bed and once again check the alarm. Repeat another 3 times, and you'll have my weirdness. >_<

*ignore this crap* (even better - delete it)

For some reason when I wanted to modify it created a new reply from the original post. Maybe I've just gone insane or the forums did...

I think this is considered normal to a certain degree. If not then it should be... ;)

(Although checking it like 3 times in a row is a little extreme I have to admit).

OCD! OCD!

For (does mental aritmatic) 10 years now.

Not so bad. Free floating anxiety becomes quite soothing after a while. ;)

UNCLEAN! UNCLEAN!

Medication helps. Up to a point.

Gotta just go with flow, I suppose.

The Dreaded Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.  I know what it's like because i've had it since i was a kid.

I still find myself checking my alarm clock to make sure that i set the right time, and double checking, but not as much lately because i'm starting to realize that i did set the right time and i shouldn't obsess over it.

I also find myself checking to make sure doors are locked and lights are off and also make sure that certain items in my house are unplugged before i leave for work in the morning.  In rare instances i have gotten to my car and went back up to check again. (This becomes annoying)

But i do have GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder) which sucks, because i get nervous and have panic attacks for no reason. This is something i have suffered with for awhile, but now i am realizing that i have to take care of this and now looking for treatment.  It's not a fun thing to have, but i'm coping.  I just have to change the way i think and that is the first step in getting better.  I think really negative alot, and that causes me to get anxious. But like i said, changing the way you think can really make a person feel alot better.

This is the first time i mentioned my GAD on this Forum, and if anybody else is suffering from it, I know what you're going through.

Wish me luck in beating this Demon.  :)

I do the whole checking things too. Prolly more extreme than some other people here, but I've recently got control over it.

It was to the point that I would lock the door, then jiggle the handle a few times to make sure, then I started doing it with my offhand too....I'd have to start counting to a certain number of jiggles eventaully...It got pretty lame....

The alarm clock and checking if things were turned off used to be a problem too, but now I just let my gal do it....heh.

I think I must have been under some stress back then, because I rarely do it now.

I used  to obsess over how I ate my cereal. I could only eat two pieces at a time, otherwise I'd throw out the entire bowl and pour another.

I also refuse to drink water from the same glass twice without washing it.

I can't just start a new level in HL2, I have to play all the way through the game to get to that level, otherwise it feels like cheating.

Oddly, I haven't been stamped with OCD. Maybe I'm lucky. Maybe I'm just a freak.

HeirOfNorton

I think a lot of people are mildly OCD. Like with me, if I step on a crack I feel...uneven until I step on another crack with the other foot (in the same spot on the foot). My sister was the same was as a kid, and my niece is starting to do it too. It's SPREADING!!!

Otherwise, my only chronic disease/syndrome/thing is a strong case of Glaucoma. It makes my eyes feel like this  :o, and I could go blind at any time (like Kirby Pucket). So far so good, though.

(Hey, if I DO go blind, I'm gonna try to learn DareDevil's SONAR sense. If bats can do it, why not me?)

I got really sick when I was 13 with the flu (had a fever of 106) and haven't been the same since, really. Since then, I'm tired a lot and get sick more often than the average person, and tend to stay sick longer (like having colds or flus for several weeks or even a few months at a time, sometimes), even when I try to take really good care of myself.

In the past few years, I've bene getting sick a little less often and for somewhat shorter periods of time, though. Still, I'm pretty much always tired.

I've been to the doctors about it too much, and they can't ever figure out what's wrong.

It sucks, but after a while, you sort of learn to live with it.

I also have alergies to a bunch of things (though none of them are very severe).

I have "Moderate Obstructive Sleep Apnea".

http://www.stanford.edu/~dement/apnea.html

It's a condition where my airway gets blocked by...well itself as I sleep.Ã,  The "soft palette relaxes bla bla bla".

It's the cause of my snoring and a HUGE sorce of my depression.

Thankfully the most common cure works for me... a cpap machine
Continuous Positive Air Pressure

http://www.cpap.net/manufacturers_cpaps/respironics/REMstarPluswithcflex.htm

Basically, raise the pressure of the air inside my throat as compared to the outside, thus expanding the airway.

The one problem with this solution is finding a comfortable mask.

the full one
http://www.cpap.net/manufacturers_cpaps/resmed/UltraMiragefullfaceMask.htm
tended to be huge and clunky and annoying...

the nasal one
http://www.cpap.net/manufacturers_cpaps/resmed/UltraMirageMask.htm
worked a bit better.

But what's called the nasal pillow
http://www.cpap.net/manufacturers_cpaps/resmed/resmedswiftmask.htm
is just wonderful and I can sleep in my weird contorted fashions now without having to worry about the mask getting in the way of anything.

So, now I can sleep without waking up once every 2 minutes as my sleep study from a year ago showed I did.

(and yes my girlfriend has mentioned I do sound like someone when I sleep with my CPAP....)

i have recently realised that i cannot brush my teeth in a bathroom without closing the door. I'm not sure if that qualifies for OCD or not, but i thought i'd post it up here for laughs/ 'i feel your pain'.

Cheers,

I wouldn't worry about it, Fluke. As puberty hits a young male, he will often "brush his teeth" with the door closed (hopefully locked). He may do this several times a day even. It's a perfectly normal, natural thing.Ã,

Does phobia to coackroaches (sp?) count as a disease? I have doubts, but if that thing of checking the alarm is accepted as a disease or a dissorder, my phobia should be considered too, because it does alter my life aswell... I walk very carefully in garages, I do look at the corners, I don't go to restaurants in front of the beach because that there is their territory. Anybody else here with the same problem?

I suffer from Chronic Sleep Deprivation. The only advice I've got for this: Have no distractions in the room and try to sleep. Shit, why didn't I think to do that? Oh I know.... I tried it for 3 years and it didn't work. :P

Two years ago I had something I don't know the name of. I was really scared to get sick, so every time I touched something like the floor I washed my hand with soap. I was also really scared to make other people sick, so I never really touched someone.
After a couple of months it became really scary, because of all the hand washing with soup my hands became really really dry, and when I made a fist the skin of my hand popped open!
But then my parents bought a cute little dog and everything stopped from there.

I'm also an extreme day dreamer. I'm almost the whole day in another place.

I have allopecia, which isn't a chronic illness, but is more of a "disease". That doesn't make it sound so nice either, all it really is, is an un-natural loss of hair, bald patches etc. Hence the cap, constantly. Other than that, apart from my body being made out of wood or something & occasionally giving me gip, (aches, pains, fungel infections, eww - etc) I'm fine. Adopted & colour blind too, but they're not diseases :P

Andail

Allergic to some stuff and sometimes suffering from itching rashes.

Apart from that, I'm all fine.

LGM

Colour blind, eh? No wonder your white balance always sucks in your films ;)
You. Me. Denny's.

I haven't realised you had allopecia Mark (even in the pics when you had hair) Shaved head make you sexy, though...
