Alrighty then... I'm a few days late in this news but I figured that since it hasn't been mentioned here then you guys might be interested.
Well in case you didn't know, Telltale Games is the company that was formed after the demise of Sam & Max 2. They are mostly made up of ex-lucasarts employees who worked on games such as Grim Fandango and Sam & Max. They are still very commited to the point and click adventure game genre, which is a really cool thing.

So yes they were rumoured to be trying to aquire the Sam & Max licence and create their own S&M2, but it seems that didn't happen. They have announced that their first adventure game will be based on the comic books "Bone". I havn't heard of these comics, but it all seems pretty cool.

You can read an interview at http://www.adventuregamers.com/article/id,492/ about the company and the game. Also the telltale site is: http://www.telltalegames.com/

I'm very excited by this news. I hope that they can do good things with the game, and put some life into the genre.  :=

NICE!!

Jeff Smith's "Bone" has GOT to be one of the best, sweetest, funnest (and a lot of other good adjectives, I'm sure) little comic book series ever. Simply put, it's a wonderful, cartoony delight.

As to whether or not it'll translate well to adventure form, I'm not sure. It definitly has the potential to.... I guess I'm just worried that it won't be as fun to play after having read the series, given that it would appear that they intend to follow the series' events. Hopefully they'll show us "missing" parts of the books and fill in details of things that went on "off panel". If they mix THAT sort of thing up with the material that's already there, whoo-WEE this might just be a whole boatload of fun to play.

... stupid, stupid rat creatures ...

EDIT: Regardless of whatthe game might turn out like, I can WHOLEHEARTEDLY reccomend the whole, 1340 pages worth of the "Bone: One Volume Edition" which collects the whole series. It's not super easy to find on store shelves right now, but you can probably get a copy online for under $50. And considering the sheer SIZE of that mofo, and how darn good it is, it's well worth your dollars, IMO (I got mine at a great sale price, and you can't have it  :-* ).

I saw this on mixnmojo a small while back. Really looking forward to this!

I've been thinking about this some more... Amazing how I can get excited by such a small idea, but man, I totally can't WAIT to put on a paper bag hat.

Woo!
I love Bone!
It's a clever choice too because the artwork is solid but "sparse" which should save modelling and texturing time.

My biggest fear about this is the voice acting. Sam and Max was pretty good but this is (a little) more serious at times.
That, and that they're doing a game per book. Each book was about 200 pages but you can read them in an hour or two easily. Either that means fast episodes (uh-oh) or as Ozwalled suggests a lot of fill-in detail. And with a team of 10 people that means small games or lots of outsourcing.

Exciting news for adventure games! Good luck TellTale!

I hadn't seen that "Telltale Texas Hold-em" game before either. Huh. Looks nice. If you're into that sort of thing...

That's great news...!

I'm really really really looking forward to this...

And another interview you can all read is here: http://www.quandaryland.com/jsp/dispArticle.jsp?index=697 It sounds really good what they are doing with the game.
A couple of early pictures have also been released:

Whoa.
I have not read Bone until I heard of this game.
Now I'm reading the second book and I... I think I'm in love.
It's cute, funny, and all those other adjectives people here have mentioned.
I'd definitely like to see this as a game, I just hope they can keep the spirit of the comics.

If you haven't read it yet, you must. You MUST.

I am very interested in reading the comics after hearing about the game, and comments from those who have read the comics. They sound really good, although I'm not sure where I'd be able to get a copy of them.

Any self-respecting comic book store is likely to have some of the softcover collection books around (the collect multiple issues of the original run). And Scholastic's re-releasing some of the collection books IN COLOR and they look freakin' sweet. It's not a sure thing that they'll be publishing the whole series yet, though.

Alternatly, if you're comfortable with online shopping, they shouldn't be too hard to get ahold of, I'd guess.

Considering that the softcover collections go for around $10 or so US, though (there's nine total, I believe) and that the softcover one book COMPLETE SERIES can be bought for probably under $50 (quite a lot less, in some cases, as in the link I posted above), I'd say splurge and get the big COMPLETE SERIES book. You'll devour it like it's nothing, but that's only 'cause it's so gosh-darned good.

Telltale are shaping up to be the 'Legacy Studios' of adventure games.

There's a complete series book?
Does that mean it's all over? :'(

[EDIT] Thanks for the info, Oz.

AFAIK, it is -- it's called the "One Volume Edition", according to that Barnes and Noble link, as well as the one I have right here. Unfortunately. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there'll be any more Bone books.

If you feel like doing a little digging to figure out the definitive answer, though, you could always check out the official website: http://www.boneville.com/

[EDIT: Hey no prob. I do  what I can to help.]

Bluke4x4

Looks nice. Very good. Will it be in the sort of style of that one Asterix game?

auhsor

So rather than create a new topic I thought I'd just edit this one.

Telltale have released a traler for Bone which you can find here

Also they have stated that the first episode of Bone will be released in September. Exciting stuff I think.

For the full press release, go here.

Al_Ninio

Oh my.
The trailer itself looked very, very nice, but the voice acting REALLY ruined it for me.
It's... so bad.

I dunno, I think this game is gonna rawkz
When I was a little kid we had a sand box. It was a quicksand box. I was an only child... eventually.
