I didn't pull the rope, and I finished the game anyway.  It may be a red herring.  'Cause the actual red herring isn't a red herring, so. . . . or it may be an easter egg or something like that.  In any case, I didn't bother and did okay.

As for the control panel: I don't KNOW exactly how I solved it, but I did.  One thing I noticed is that it's symmetrical, and I kind of kept, if I pressed one button, I pressed the button diagonally opposite it.  Usually.  Kinda.  And then, I suddenly noticed that I'd managed to get the lights into a checkerboard kind of pattern.  And from there I managed to get all the lights on.  Which was bad, because I was trying to get all the lights OFF.  So I somehow managed to get the lights back to the checkerboard kind of pattern, and then somehow managed to get all the lights off.  But I don't know exactly how.  I kind of zoned out and some other part of my brain took over and solved it.

I suppose that's not real helpful.  But I remember that that other part of my brain WAS thinking that symmetry helped it solve the puzzle, although I'm not exactly clear on WHY it thinks that it helped. . . .

That's right.  For what it's worth, I went back to the saved game where I started playing with that, and I solved it again.

And I STILL don't know how I solved it.  But I know it's doable, although very, very frustrating.

Not sure if I'm just missing something bc I don't have sound but during my conversation w/the big face in the shed right at the beginning, he says: Speaking of me... and then I can't move or do anything?  Am I just being impatient or is this a bug?

Click your secondary mouse button.  See if that helps move things along.

Don't give up!  You're almost there!  The control panel is the last puzzle in the game.  Once you've got the control panel unlocked -- with all the lights OFF -- you've almost won.

So don't give up!  It CAN be solved.  I've done it.  But it's very annoying, and not at all easy.  But I have faith in you!  You can do it!

UNCLE......... I tried hard to try and solve some of the things by myself, others I came in here and re-read other peoples questions.  However, I am at the point where I have to catch the fish to get picked herring,(they are swimming too fast, need the stilts I guess for the yeti costume, need a louder voice and have not done the drinking contest yet either which I suppose is not yet.  I spray the cat, but that is not doing anything.  Please give me just a hint as to what I am suppose to do first........Thank you

Okay.  So I can assume you've picked up the tennis rackets AND the net from the tennis court.  You also will need the tennis ball.

"Winning the drinking contest" and "slowing down the fish" both require the same item.  And it's an item in the first aid kit in the gym.  You need to make yourself look injured so you can get to the first aid kit.  And there is a pie whose flavor is not relevant, but it IS red. . .
