Hi guys. I got a new game in the works, and for my idea the adventure will take place on an "oldish, creepy looking" cruise ship. This is a drawing that I drew freehand (pencil and paper), and scanned it in.Ã,
The background I have in mind for this picture be a bit dark (around dusk or night-time), with a bit of fog.

I'm an amateur artist, but I like to try. I'm not really much good at all in colorizing/editing/inking my drawing on the computer format.

Anyways, as this is my very first post to the critics lounge with my own piece of art, I was hoping some of you talented artist might beat me up errr, give me some kind advice on how I can re-draw / color / edit this picture in hopes to give an a bit of an "oldish" and "creepy" looking cruise ship type of feel. And hey, if you feel motivated, a paint-over would be fantasticÃ,  ;D

I hope I'm on the right track with this overview picture of my ship.

Okay, here's my picture in "jpg" format, and half-size of the original scan:

If you ask me, it's not very creepy.  I know it's just a pencil drawing right now, but it's hard to give a pencil drawing the creepy look to it.  Especially with no colors.  It's a cruise ship, just not a scary one.  I think the creepiness of a ship would increace by alot if you had a dark backround.

One thing you can do is to not have any lights on the ship.  Make all windows and lights that should work (which would make it look non-creepy) and turn them off.

My *feeble* computer-art skills at an attempt to colorize the picture. But now it makes it looks "cartoony"Ã,  :P

Unfortunately I have next to no talent/skills at all when it comes to editing art on the computer.Ã,

It looks like a modern cruise ship.  Nothing 'old' I can see.  When I hear 'old' cruise liner, I think of the Titanic, or something smiliar.  This looks like a very modern, high tech cruise vessel (even complete with radar towers).

As for your painting, I'm not sure about the color scheme. :P  I would get rid of the 2nd and 3rd 'row' of green you have above the main hull, and paint them the same off white as the rest.  And also ditch the flat black on the tower things, they should be either a different color, or white like the rest.  Just my opinon. :)

Here's a little version I whipped up:

Kiddie: Wow, that looks much better, Thanks. Mind if I use it?  :)
You have a real talent for painting-over a drawing.

Anyways, you're right in your comments.  I guess when I said "old", perhaps I used the wrong word in that sense. Even though it's a more "modern" ship, I wanted it to look more like well-used / somewhat dirty / gloomy looking kind of thing. I think your paint-over has captured closer to the idea I had in mind for it.

Thanks again for your great help.

New version looks great. I would suggest emptying the pool and shredding the flag, though, but that's just me.

Adjusting the linework grey levels would make it look cleaner.
