Work on your language, mate. We don't recquire all members to write perfect standard English, but some basic sentence structure would be nice.
Can't think of any platform game engines from the top of my head, since that isn't my cup of tea, but I'm sure there are plenty that will fit your needs if you do some googling.

Yes, Game Maker is completely capable of handling platform games, however they're always buggy unless done by someone experienced. So you'll have to be patient about it.

Adamski

Yes, Game Maker is what you'll want to use for pretty much anything 2D and non-adventure.

On a side topic, has there actually been a good, playable game made with it yet?

The Blue Lady (0.5 Mb) written by Gabor de Mooij
A great adventure game. A very friendly game with nice graphics, interesting puzzles and great music. The music is by Bjorn Lynne. Requires a registered version of Game Maker.

I could never get Blue Lady to run...

I made some good GameMaker games. It isn't really a bad system at all... One of the bast, in fact. But you'll never be able to make a... who the hell were they, Delphi? Who made Out of This World?? Um, anyways, you can't make a game like that. They just came out with 3d support, but it isn't the best unless you REALLY know what you're doing and have the time to spend on it. I spent the better part of a year coming up with a platform engine, and it was spectacular, I might add, but I still couldn't make one that rivalled the OOTW engine. The graphics aren't that hard.... they were just cel-paintovers of 3d renders, I think.... The problem is getting the character to DO all that stuff. My engine is STILL incomplete.

You can make ANY kind of game in GM. As a matter of fact, the only reason I use AGS is because it is tailored specifically to make adventure games. GM is much more powerful, and if I wanted to make an adventure game, I could have spent a year making a Sierra engine and it probably would have worked much better than AGS, with minimal scripting required. BUT, I would just stick with AGS, since it's ready to go, and because CJ is t3h r0x0rz.

The problem with GM is that it's slow, but for a 2d engine with that flexibility and user-friendliness it's very fast. A faster and more flexible 2d (and 3d) engine would be Blitz Basic, but it's harder and it's only code.

I've tried my hand at Game Maker before, and the result wasn't pretty. I'm probably going to get that FPS Shooter Maker thing that The Game Creators just came out with. It'll even give me multiplayer support for the games I make!

A good alternative to Game Maker would be Multimedia Fusion by Clickteam.

Here are a few MMF platform games you can try:

Eternal Daughter (http://www.the-underdogs.org/game.php?id=3604)
Streambolt (http://www.the-underdogs.org/game.php?id=4607)
Bernard & Hank (http://www.the-underdogs.org/game.php?id=5156)
Commando (http://www.the-underdogs.org/game.php?gameid=4705)
A Game with a Kitty (http://www.the-underdogs.org/game.php?id=5220)

And maybe this, even if it's not a platformer:
The Spirit Engine (http://www.natomic.com/game.asp?id=13)

TheCheese33

Yeah, but that costs money. Who wants to spend money on a game that you could just as easily make it for free? Besides, if you're going to sell it, you won't have to pay a dime, and your profits will grow.

TheCheese33: If your comment was directed at me, then I don't quite understand what you're trying to say. Please rephrase. :)

TheCheese33

Okay. What I was trying to say was that I'd rather make a game using free software than one you have to pay for. Sorry if I offended you.

TheCheese33: You didn't offend me, I just didn't understand your other post. It's perfectly fine if you don't want to spend money on a game development tool. However, the thread starter or other people might. I assumed if MEHRDAD wanted a FREE dev tool, he would have said so.

I bought MMF so I can create freeware games with it, and it was well worth it for me.

Mehrdad

Thanks Bernie.MMF is good software.do you think its  better than GMAKER?

Yes MMF is awesome, I bought it too! You could also go for the cheaper solution : TGF, The Games Factory, it's only $39! and you can try it for free :)

I want to get the demos again for those ClickTeam products, so I can reload my really old "games" and see how crappy they were and have a good laugh.

- No, I mean it's really STUCK. Like adventure-game stuck.

Geoffkan wrote a platform engine not long ago.  I found it very useful, have you tried it?  It allows for a lot of stuff, I believe you could probably make something similar to donkey kong kountry with it.  Some features would be unavailable, but for the most part, Geoff's system handles everything smoothly.

Here is one, i don't use it, but i know of someone who did, this one is similar in structure to AGS, with gui interface nice and all.

It's called the Scrolling Game Development Kit.
