Mistakes

Look at it as a public service kinda thing. Everybody loves spotting errors in games, books and films, so here's a place to tell everyone about them. ;D It might also spur discussion on whether something is or is not an actual mistake. Looking on the bright side, it should serve as a warning - we can see all the mistakes the OTHER people made, and try not to repeat it.

But HIDE YOUR SPOILERS please!

Discworld
Spoiler
There's a barrel of gunpowder. But at best it should be called "gonnepowder" - there are no "guns" in the Discworld, there's just been a "gonne", once, in "Men at Arms". At any rate, it should be a keg of Nº1 Powder, which is the way they call it.

Also, in Discworld Noir Lewton became a werewolf because Carlotta kissed him. Am I missing something here? Because that would make Carrot a werewolf too. Didn't they do much more than kiss in "Men at Arms"?

One more thing, but only for the real nit-picky: Rincewind is the star of Discworld 1. That game sort of follows the plot of Guards! Guards! and *may* be regarded as the "Rincewind" version of Guards! Guards!, as opposed to the "Watch" version. But during that time, Rincewind was in the Dungeon Dimensions - having got there in Sourcery and not coming out until Eric.

Sleepy Hollow:
Spoiler
Isn't it interesting how the headless horseman's skull's teeth were all nice and perfect? Not pointy at all. But when he appears as alive as possible, all his teeth have been filed to points! Did they re-grow after his death?

Nausicaa:
Spoiler
Ok, I may be wrong here - but does Nausicaa's dress, at the very end, change from red to blue without explanation?

Pirates of the Carribean:
Spoiler
If you look closely during one of the ship fights (or when they steal the ship, I'm not sure), 5 times during that scene, you can see 1 or two cameramen across the deck.

LoTR: Fellowship:
Spoiler
During beginning to Frodo and Sam's journey to Elrond, Sam tells Frodo "If I take one more step, I'll be the farthest away from home I've ever been." Shortly after that, if you look in the backround to the far-right, you can see a car driving up the road.

Peter Jackson cut this from the VHS and DVDs, and what is now there is smoke coming up from the house right next to there, following the car's path as a cover-up. Pretty funny, how they went to that lengths to get it fixed.

Losing the Faith:
Spoiler

When that one dude and other chick are busy making out they stop and have a lengthy discussion about whether or not to continue the relationship. During this his shirt switches from open to closed continuously. It's quite hilarious.

I am a huge freak when it comes to noticing mistakes in movies!  Most especially editing mistakes.

Jurassic Park:
Spoiler
When the helicopter is descending you can see the Jeeps parked by the pad (all the way back to the gate), when the camera changes the Jeeps are backing up to the gate.

Titanic:
Spoiler
When Jack and Rose are walking with Molly (going to dinner) you can see them in the background as the camera focuses on Cal.  When it cuts back to them they are in a completely different pose)

There are soooo many I could mention.

I am making a movie-review website and one of the sections is devoted to mistakes like this!  So keep 'em coming!

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned http://www.moviemistakes.com/

I spent hours on here when I first found it. Be wary.

The King and I:
Spoiler

In one of Yul Brenner's dance numbers he is whirling and twirling around the palace.  He has on 2 ear rings which stand out at right angles to his head from the centriptal (sp?)  force.   At one point in the dance he bends over and when he stands up again the ear rings are gone.  Ok, one could postulate that they fell off when he bent over, but a few minutes later he bends over again and this time when he stands back up the ear rings have magically returned to their former position firmly attached to his ears.   :o

I HATE noticing mistakes, i HATE people telling me about them, nothing better at taking all the immersion out of a scene :| i ignore all of 'em in monkey island 2 :)

Rui 'Trovatore' Pires

Heh. Maybe if the mistakes weren't there the immersion wouldn't be in danger. ;)

Nothing we can do about 'em but ignore 'em ;)

Whatever happened to recognizing mistakes and learning from them? :=

You can do that in life, but lets take Sleepy Hollow. It's 6 years old, sure we probably could go back and cgi it.. but they wont. So it could be a use if they made Sleepy Hollow 2 but it wont do anything to Sleepy Hollow :|

Anyway, I don't like this thread so this will be my last reply :P

Rui 'Trovatore' Pires

I think you mis-understood me a bit. Since we're all creators here - mostly everyone in the community is a creator of some sort, after all creating is what usually drives people to AGS in the first place - it's always interesting to focus on some aspects of some games/films/stories/images/whatever. In this particular case I started wondering about the mistakes, so we could have a little laugh about it and so we see examples of things we should mind when we ourselves are creating something. I certainly would never have thought of remaking Sleepy Hollow or anything else.

(Shame on me for replying again)

I know what you mean, but for me.. if i do notice a mistake, it will drive me crazy, going as far as skipping past scenes and totally ruin something for me. Yes we need to learn from mistakes, but not at the cost of ruining stuff for me :| :P

There was TOO an explanation!

Andail

I hate sites like moviemistakes, because it's just full of perfectionist nerds who have watched the dvd-version of some top movie frame by frame just to be able to claim something like "in scene x, frame y, you can see a camera man in the reflection of one of the actor's sunglasses."
WHO CARES?

Rui 'Trovatore' Pires

Andail - I was thinking more along the lines of plot-holes, actually, as per my examples, but whatever people wand to contribute's fine.

Eggie, what was the explanation?
