I agree with Dan. Why stress about it? I've seen immense progress being shown on this thread and mostly intelligent discussion about it. And that's what the thread is here for. For announcements, for progress and for discussion. The worship posts are quite irrelevent, but I find this thread much more successful than the average threads. I don't see what the problem is when this thread keeps getting bumped. As long as it's relevant content, it's ok with me. Naysayers have a choice to keep away, as Dan already said.

By the way, Dan, listening to your interview: why not have her with the hat at the beginning, she loses it and then only gets it back right at the end of the game... with an appropriate in-joke comment when she gets it back!  ;)

(yes it is a weiner costume, and i'm aware he's not really old enough to bare the title 'the' elder', but you'll have to wait and see.)

Actually, as much as I can't wait for this game, I want it all to be a surprise, characters and all...

I love all the progress work shown here. The concept art is just concept art. It may reveal some things about the game, but it won't spoil it. And Dan's sketches are so funny, appealing and inspirational, they always make me work on my own game.

Then about the sketch. Looks awesome and creative. Very sam'n'maxy. Where do you come up with all these characters?

Thanks ildu, im glad you like the characters. As for coming up with them, i just try and take what would normally be a stereotypical character within a tale or stroy, and give them some sort of unique twist or oddity. I think giving layers and depth to characters is exremely important, so ill be striving to ensure all the characters are memorable.

A quick update and i guess some good news for you all, ALL of the backgrounds for the game are now either concepted (i.e ready for a detailled line and paint) or completed! I really feel as if the whole things starting to gain momentum now, and once the BGs are done things will speed up considerably :)

I've spoken to a number of people who have offered to help out with programming etc., so it'll be a case of choosing and allocating someone when the time comes to actually put it together.

What about voice acting? Have you at all contemplated it? Or is it just too tough of a chance to get good actors?

It had crossed my mind, albeit briefly, but i think it's one of those things you have to be very careful with. Hammy voice acting can really kill a game, and i dont think adventures are necessariy better for it. Also, as you say, it's a difficult task to get consistently good voice actors for diggerent roles, so i think i'll be leaving it tbh.

Just a small update, im working away at the backgrounds trying to get them all finished ASAP, and if people are wondering why i've dissapeared from MSN, it's because i'm taking a bit of a break from it so i can concentrate on work and the game etc. so if you need to get in touch, email me or PM me :)

Awesome. Finally an update. I absolutely love the new concept.

One thing of concern, though. As I remember the overhead map of the area and the tower being a separate building, I'm left wondering where the entry/exit points are in this background. Right now it looks a lot like the only entry/exit point is the ladder, which is fine. So is the ladder the only entry/exit point? The thing is that the building is separate, so I'm worried that the player can straight away walk to this background from the right side. In a background like this, you expect to enter and exit through the ladder, so this background would kind of be an extension of the interior of the building.

Ok, now I'm even confusing myself :), so I'll reiterate. Is the structure like map -> tower interior -> this background or map -> tower interior / map -> this background? Because if it was the latter, the rightmost entry/exit point doesn't come across in this image. So if it's the latter, why not have a picket fence, so you can only enter this background through the tower interior? I feel it would be better.

Then again, It's none of my business. But I'm trying to help.

haha, i see what you mean, it's probasbly confusing to anyone else other than myself. I can't say too much but there is actually an entrance on the right, i have sort of painted a highlight for a path but it's hard to see, the final edit will make this more apparent.

Just a side note, please not that you shouldnt take the map i posted as an exact reference, although its still roughly the same area, some finer details have changed as time has passed. Glad you like the concept :)
