I will just ignore this comment, and pretend, we never had this confusing conversation.

Anyone remember Freakazoid? Whatever happened to that? I have very fond memories of that show!

Indeed, Freakazoid was awesome.

Hah, funny, I just had a Freakazoid marathon with a friend the other day, watched the first series.
She somehow managed to fall asleep near the end. :(
Good times.

As to why it was cancelled, this might shed some (very little) light: http://zvbxrpl.blogspot.com/2004/07/freakazoid.html

Thomas must have... MISSED AN EPISODE!!
What an insolence!
Me? Missing an episode?!?
No, it's more likely, that you are talking about an episode, wich didn't run in germany, yet.
There is this 2 year delay, I mentioned above.

Squinky

ManicMatt

Sorry I must have missed that bit.

2 year gap! (Now aware of Thomas V. being from Germany, Matt attempts to use his pathetic German vocabulary, for it is the first opportunity to do so) They better schnell with that! Else I'll point a gun at them and shout "hande hoc!" and "achtung!" if they don't get on with it! So then you can say "Guten tag" to new episodes! (Spelling may be well off here...)

Do you watch Family Guy in german then? I've seen Star trek Next gen in German! It's weird cos the voices are so different sometimes!

Can't you import a DVD of family guy with the same region code?

Tom S. Fox

Hey, that wasn't bad!
And yes, I watch Family Guy in germany.
The german version sucks, though, because the translator is a moron!

An example:

Original:
Alexis: "The loser says 'what?'"
Lois: "What? ... Argh!"

German (translated back to english):
Alexis: "What says the loser?"
Lois: "Huh? ... Argh!"

As you can see, it doesn't make any sense!
That's why I buy the DVDs, you can switch between german and english.
And yes, I imported season 3 per amazon.de a while ago, since season three is not on DVD in germany, yet.

And I want close my post with following FG-quote:
SIE WERDEN SICH HINSETZEN!
SIE WERDEN RUHIG SEIN!
SIE WERDEN NICHT BELEIDIGEN DEUTSCHLAND!

ManicMatt

Say what? *Looks up in translator*  What's a "HINSETZEN"? Me no insult Germany. Take this!

seid bereit immer kommt

Haha tankperson or something! I love this song by And one, but I have no idea what the hell they are going on about, despite putting it through a computer translator. I sing it out loud at work (The chorus anyway) I hope I aint saying anything offensive!

Ah, yes the whole translation = losing jokes thing. Sector 5's excellent Stargate game suffered from some of that. And... danny boy? Since when did O'neill call him Danny boy?

"Hinsetzen" means "sit down" and, yes, it was just a FG quote, also in the original version, I put in for fun!

One question still:
When you said, I missed an episode, did you mean Simpsons or Family Guy?

ManicMatt

I meant what you thought I meant. Family guy. (Of which I've seen about three episodes of. At least if I ever bought it on DVD it would be virtually new to me)

Well, you don't seem to be offended by the german lyrics, so that's cool. A legend who walks??? Eh? Oh well.

PS- I learnt that bit of german from a game called "Prisoner of war" where you had to escape german war camps during world war 2.  See, games CAN be educational!  :)

Tom S. Fox

Oh yeah, I saw this game on TV.
But the way they pronounce it - LOL!
And watch mor episodes of Family Guy, it's great.
If they will ever cancel it, I gonna kill myself!
Lucky, I didn't do it early enough the last two times!

Can't you download em' off the internet? Torrents?
Oops, I noticed this comment just now.
Download them?
Isn't it illegal?!?  :o ???

Tom S. Fox

Since I don't know, what or who "zvarily" is, you must be right.
What show?

Family Guy is nothing but references and jokes about injuries or stupid people. Like: Peter suddenly falling down the stairs, throwing up because he drank a bottle of Ipecac, and any episode ever, because they all have references. It's not even funny.

I hope it gets cancelled, and I hope you come to your senses before it does, Thomas.

I could barely believe my ears when i heard that the Simpsons Season 16 won no emmys. No, wait, i could. Season 16 was kinda crappy. I know this has been discussed before (in a thread I created i believe), but what exactly do you think is the formula, and does this happen to all animations that do not cancel when appropriate, like futurama.

Futurama did not 'cancel when appropriate'.

QuoteThe doom of animation is upon us!!!

That doesn't really make sense.

Perhaps were you a tad older than 12 you'd better understand the show and it's "references"?

I just recently discovered the show and love the hell out of it!  I'm a child of the 80's ... so perhaps it means more to me.  But it's been a long while since I've laughed this hard at a TV show.

And considering it's one of a VERY few shows ever to be brought back on-air by a demanding audience and over whelming DVD sales, I'd say your opinion is in the minority ;)

DGMacphee

The Writer's Guild of America (WGA) recently announced their nominees.

http://www.wga.org/subpage_newsevents.aspx?id=1493

Scroll down to the Animation section. Gee, I wonder if The Simpsons will win anything.

On Family Guy: I still get a kick out of it. Say what you will (i.e. they just use "references" or "jokes about stupid people") but Seth MacFarlane's timing is impeccable, way better than The Simpsons of recent times. I find The Simpsons' writers tend to labour their jokes and leave me with an "oh i see what you did there ho hum" feeling.

Then again, the WGA would probably disagree with me.

And on Futurama...
