Here are some new looks for characters for the sequel to the game 2010: World of Chaos, 2010: World of Destruction (working title). The leader of the terrorists, Al Fahar Shamra has gone through an uncanny Darth Vader-like transformation and 75% of his body is robotic (he was in an explosion- see the extended ending to 2010: World of Chaos). Later, I'll post a new look for the sidekick robot, Tyson.

why is the image so big and the char so small??  ???
Greatest thrill
Not to kill
But to have the prize of the night
Hypocrite
Wannabe friend
13th disciple who betrayed me for nothing!

Maybe you should use hidden text in your intro, so it doesn't spoil the ending for 2010:World of Chaos ^_^.
Could you blow up your picture a bit?  It's difficult to see clearly.

That's incredibly helpful.  I'm gonna throw out a guess here ... probably because that's how he saved it?

yodaman11111 - As MashPotato said, it is a little hard to see at such a small resolution.  If your graphics program allows, you might want to crop it out (remove the dead background space) and post just the character.  Use the [ img width=xxx height=xxx ] (no spaces) commands to increase the size.

For now:

My suggestions:
- spend a little more time making him a tad more symetrical.  He doesn't have to be identical of course, but he looks a little ... gelatenous rather than human.
- smooth out the lines to define his shoulder lines and waist/groin area.
- fix the jaggies on his arms

Over all I would simply suggest you spend a few more minutes on QC (quality control) with each image.  Your work tends to look like you just throw it together.  If this is the best you can do so be it, however I get the feeling you could do much better work if you'd focus more and spend a few more minutes on the details.

Hope it helps.

I did a paint over in about 10 - 15 minutes and it game out looking kewl. I cant upload still having some server issues. Anyway the thing is your working wierd IMO

Yoda use the force man.. Best way IMO for you would be to make a siloute. And fill in the blanks.
Or just take an already create adventure character and do a paintover if your very lazy. Anything will look better.

Take the time and ivest it into learning your art skills its worth it I mean I have been doing art for ages now and hey I cant get the effect I want some of the times. In pixel art I really struggle and I need to learn more pixel art I practise every day study paint overs. (Not just on my art but on everybodys art!)  The crits room is my tutorial HAVEN! I am still amazed by BB mercenary pic WOW

I wish i can do that. I look at Buloghts art WOW and then another favourite of mine is resentless Great artist take their work and study it if you have to and next time you do a sprite pencil it on paper and then mouse it on pc. So you know what your going for.

More basic tips is youll notice many artists use 3 variations of a color or a spcific item of the character etc the hair ... clothes etc. You can use more why use so little you will be able to produce better looking sprites later on using less colors..

Anyway I think ive told you this before?

I'm glad that you finally discovered photobucket. Nice work. Here is about 1/2 second of work in paint to crop your image. (the pink background makes this features easier to see.) Have fun.

Here's a little paintover. I didn't bother to change his pose though. But I tried to give you some suggestions for outlines, shading and other pixel pushing and color selecting...

Steel Drummer

The paintover is not the right style for this game. I'm going to add shading later- this is just a "first draft" image. I should also add a thing to go across on his cape- it would make it look like an actual cape.
Spoiler

At a certain time in the second game, I'm going to have a non-interactive fist fight between the terrorist and david smith. The terrorist's outer clothes will come off- revealing the mechanic, robotics underneath. I also drew a version of the terrorist showing the robotics..

Uh! My eyes hurt! Blue text on a red background. :-

One piece of advice. Try to match colors better.

Style?! Where?! Just spend some time and do the sprites good. Or atleast try. I was going to make a paintover too but I changed my mind - you don't really wanna improve. Anyway sorry if I seem harsh but really: Do some real work.

In the real game, it won't be like that. The colorization (is that even a word?!) changes when you save a bitmap as a gif. I'll work on this sprite some....

The real game ???

Dude now your confusing me are you just making a umm picture of a game?

Steel Drummer

Heck NO!  Ughhh......  I originally had that screenshot as a bmp file but had to do a gif instead. When you save stuff as gif files, it screws up the colors a bit, if you catch my drift.

LoL why use gif? PNG is working better then cause the pallete doesnt freak out.

lo_res_man

heres is a edit I did using ALMOST all the same colours. not so good at capes myself, look elsewere for better ones

lol. That's a good paintover, but it's the wrong style as well. The style for my game is a "simple pixel art" type thing. You made him fat, that's the funny thing. This guy's supposed to be a tough, muscular guy (or at least semi-muscular). And now, what about this improvement I did on him? I used your suggestions, Darth (I think it was Darth Mandarb). Sorry if it's too large!

well it is hard to tell from your work,  it looked fat  to me. in fact I couldn't tell at first if he was wearing a lab coat or a cape. I started work on this before all this was made clear. didn't check the forum till after.

Notice for Yoda:

This forum is called Critics lounge, and it's here for one reason. Critic. You know the kind of thing that one gives happily and wholeheatidly to another in order for the second to improve.

Now you're either a really really great artist and trying to hide it for a reason, or you're just a kid with tons of imagination and not really reading to the other posts.

You're free to do whatever you want, but frankly I think that your art sucks! Sorry but this is the word. And you haven't done any attempt to work on it, no matter how many people tell you to.

More advice: I would never imagine to make a first game without any experience, having it ready 99.9% ready, geting ready the sequel and asking for voice actors!

Even more advice: Keep doing what you do. Keep creating. Keep trying. But do try also to benefit your self from the people that 'waste' their time (like I do right now) and post on your threads.

BTW: You have a guy/gal named debugging, who busted his/her ass to deliver you the sound fx that you requested. Are you going to say something to him/her? Are you going to thank him'/her? Are you going to answer at all? Cause otherwise this is plainly RUDE!

EDIT: I started writing before your post. Which proves exactly what? Why did you post for critics in the first place if you're not going to listen anyway?

Please try to think and answer all of my questions. Either here in the thread, either by PM to me, either in your head.

I tried doing what the people said: I shaded it some, I made it symmetrical, and I fixed up the arms a bit. What's wrong with that? And about the sound fx (two things):

1. I tried downloading one sound file but it was like 12 MB!
2. I tried putting different sounds on the game and they don't play.

1. So? You should've said in the first place what you want exactly. Size, quality, duration...
2. Check with the technical forum for that.

Either way, I still don't see a reason why you wouldn't post in the thread, which is still in the first page because a guy is doing you a favour.

But anyway, I have no idea, as you may have already contacted him through PM, or e-mail or whatever.

Anyways... I don't think that you'lle be getting savour vivre lessons from a random guy through the internet. So... don't listen for all I care. I certainly won't and don't.
