Ok, ok, I'll do that next time, since you people are so annoyed. BTW, Saber, could you show me how to do some backgrounds sometime?

Ã,  Ã, I love your characters!

Sorry but I didn't notice any improvement, to be honest. Hey, you threw this work into the Critics Longue as you want to make it better and improve your skills ast once, right? Probably. But ask yourself first if you really want it. Why do you ignore other users' commentaries? They just want to help you. Hmm... if you even can't (or don't want to) make use of a tip, sorry but I have no idea of why you are here.

CL isn't a place where you just can throw some junk and request others to do the work for you.

Personally I'm enough of useless threads like that; reading them is truly exhausting. It's all pointless as well for you, because as I see you don't know what do you really want. Next time better think twice before starting a topic, please.

Ã,  Ã, Does this chick is supposed to be laying on sofa?

yep she is. But why do you say you love my characters yet you say you see no improvement??? How can I improve the girl's art?

Is there even a point in telling you how to improve if you arn't even going to do anything but more things around and post the SAME things? But for the hell of it- All the hair looks like its plastered up. It needs to hang flatter. I will be very dissapointed (more than I am now) if you dont crop the images next time.

And DON'T click on "reply with quote" when you intend to reply to the most recent post.

WHY DO PEOPLE ALWAYS QUOTE THE WHOLE GODDAMN POST DIRECTLY ABOVE THEIRS?

We understand what you're referring to, and we don't want to read everything twice. Phew. Seriously, this should be mentioned in the rules. IMO, this is the most irritating forum habit ever.
I say ban everyone who does it. Without explanation.

btt:
The sprites suck. And I'm telling you this because you chose to ignore every single suggestion people mentioned here.
Except adding muscles to the muscular guy, of course.
And while you were at it, you put a fourpack on the girl with the star shaped feet.
The sprites look like they were drawn at 100% zoom with a dirty mouse ball.
Clean your mouse, zoom in on your characters and draw them pixel by pixel.
And use the eraser tool from time to time.
Look at photos of people, google for human proportions.

And crop your pics!

Scummbuddy

Concentrate on getting the girl done in one complete pack. Meaning, do all of her walkcycles, talkcycles and normal movements, like pick up and such, and then, when thats done, you can do the alternate clothing by animating on top of the old ones, which would be saved as a copy.
- Oh great, I'm stuck in colonial times, tentacles are taking over the world, and now the toilets backing up.
- No, I mean it's really STUCK. Like adventure-game stuck.

Take ags deserters advice. Hes got a point.

Why do you think it take so long for anyone to complete a decent game (when they dont have any prior knowledge)

Make chracter by character then the animation pack then backgrounds etc. dont move on to a next thing until your happy with the last thing. (And i norder to be happy with it you need to know what your looking for)

Some more advice goto the best ags site ever...!!! Kafkas coffee love this site thank you Erik

I suspect you can't tell good graphics from bad ones. Thats why you think you can draw sprites and you don't listen to advices...

Here is a quick example that would help you understand the difference between good and bad graphics:

"Sooo, mr. Relentless, what are the differences?" you may ask me and I shall tell you:

1.0 Shape (form) of the moon.... Moon is round. I guess you have seen it. Symethrical is a big word and I won't use it.
2.0 I've used shades. Shades can be lighter or darker of your basic colour. Shades are used to make a darker outline of the object you are drawing. They are also used in lighting. Shades are important.
2.5 "Why do I need a darker outline?". Because it makes your sprite look better, ok? There are exeptions, but "Don't try to run, if you can't even walk."
3.0 Lighting: Here is a tip: Get yourself something round (an orange, a ball) and see how light affects the colour. Also, the moon is very bright so I used lighter shades.
4.0 The stars can be brighter or darker in the same sky... You've seen stars too.
5.0 The lighter blue shade is around the moon because the moon glows. I'm sure you've seen the moon and how the sky seems brighter around it.

And lastly the 2 questions you are most likely to ask: "WhyÃ,  is the second picture better than the first?" and "Why should I care?" Answers are: "Because when you see the second picture you know it's a picture of a moon." and "Because when you see the first picture you don't know what it is."

With that the extremly short tutorial about difference between good and bad graphics is over. Now its time to read a basic tutorial wich shows how to draw good sprites instead of bad ones. I hope I was helpfull...and sorry about the bad spelling.

Search for a word "sarcasm" in your dictionary.

I'm posting here for a year but still DO remember the "better times". Once there was much less threads like that, competitions were free of useless posts and so on. It won't change, KhrisMUC, because there's no bans on these boards and everyone is allowed to enter. That's why most of newbies piss on rules.

"Please, bring back the death penalty!"

Continuing the characters topic, make the BASE first (one for woman, one for man), which you will be using as a reference for every single character, THEN add the details. And follow the suggestions of others. I am not saying you work will aways SUCK, it won't if you begin to listen and watch carefully.

Well-said, Relentless.

I love your art, yodaman11111! Don't ever change it. But please crop out the useless parts of your image (all that blue) as it is not needed.

PS: The girl looks nice

Babar, it's good to be nice and all that, but you're not doing him a favour by saying that he shouldn't change anything.

The "sprites" right now are not useful, and he doesn't show any signs of improving or wanting to improve, so he's actually just wasting his and our time.

Relentless good one wow love that background!

Thumbs up!

I know what you just posted, but I hope this is close enough to the topic to allow for:

Have you played his game? It's hilarious! It's awesome! If he had something as "pretty" as Darth's sprite, the effect just wouldn't be there.

Now, ok. I suppose a leeeetle changing here and there would be useful. For example, with the girl (although she's ok as is), you could select the left side (in Paint), copy, paste, flip it over and place it on the right side. That is what everyone is talking about having it "balanced" and "mirrored".

EDIT:

Here, yodaman11111. I think this is something like what they want. If you ask me, I think it's lost its personality, but do with it as you wish:

I'll improve those things in the next game. The next game will feature an art style that is complimentary to the first game, yet expands and improves the art of the first game. So, you're still gonna see a lot of those simple looking characters (with detail though). you're right, it has lost it's personality. however, if the fingers were different looking on each side, it wouldn't.

Sorry to say i dissagree the girl hasnt lost any personality in fact its exactly the same pixels in most cases.
just that the arms were fixed. There is alot of improvement that can be done still IE: the legs being shorter than the body but yeah whatever...

Yodaman check your C&C thread on bgs...
