Anghellic SHOULD BE BAND!!!!!!!! HE IS REALLY ANNOYING AND IS SWEARING THE WHOLE FORUM FOR TRYING TO SAVE HIM from lawsuits!!!

Anyway I just feel he doesnt want to come clean The shading is identical to real image and well ban him.

Trophies are kewl I agree with buloght the sprite jam guy gan make a trophy if he wants and shouldnt broadcast it until the winner is announced whetver or not he made trophies.

Krysis

a) Punished? Isn't the fact of losing any respect enough punishment? No? Well, torch the f$#@ if you want, no one's going to miss him if you do... ::)
b) Trophies are not the problem. As already said, they are optional. They are a big thing now, but soon enough people would get used to getting (or not getting) them.

and c) even if it sounds stupid I think airgo deserves a medal for busting a cheater:

Yeah, I see... I'd like to hear it from Anghellic too, see what he thinks of all these games. I don't suppose anyone would go and add your sprite to all of these sites, now would they. It doesn't make sense. And what doesn't make any more sense is why the hell you keep saying it's your sprite if it isn't? You can't bloody prove anything by calling us dumb.

I still don't think he deserves any more attention or anything, that' smy opinion on this. It's not like the end of the world if he cheated, he's just a fool then, claiming he didn't. I'm not here to judge, I'll leave it to those of us who have nothing better to do, but I'll say that I'd like you to clarify your point in claiming that sprite your own. All the sign show that you had nothing to do with doing this sprite. Though if you can convince me the otherway, I'm willing to believe.

And no, he shouldn't be banned. He hasn't done anything in my opinion, but I know it doesn't count since I'm no operator, nor am I playing one. And Afflict, please use dots, that's what's annoying...

Stefano

A) I think no punishment should take place. The only scarry thing is Anghellic is still insisting and trying to get away with it. No regreat. No shame. Scarry.

B) I think trophies are good "baits" to motivate participation. I've clearly noticed an increase in the number of entries on this sprite jam, in comparison to others I've started. Trophies were also becoming some sort of new tradition. But, in my opinion, they're nice, but nothing more. And they do induce more competitivity.

Cheaters will always exist, as Squinky mentioned. But I say let's avoid potencialy cheating stimulative situations, since this is a democratic community, and not all of us think alike (see (A) for a good example. Cheat, insist, lie and feel no remorse).

That might be down to the topic.  It was pretty much a "draw whatever you can think of" situation and not a "draw a cowboy" or "draw a blonde girl in september" or whatever.

Now you see, until now I've been defending you. But I can assure you my sympathy is not on you anymore. I think with such attitude it'd be better for you to just shut up.

Darth Mandarb

I don't think banning is necessary ... he did something wrong, was called out on it, and is now dealing with it (albeit in a not so mature manner).  The only thing I worry about is how he'll be treated by others ... in which case he'll probably get mad, troll for a bit, piss a few more people off, then vanish into the ether ... (I only make this guess due to

As for the trophies ... I think they are okay.  They encourage people to enter the sprite jams (and other competitions) which is, I think, a good thing.

I think what should be done is this:

We have a competition to design the trophies!  1 for coding, music, sprites, stories, bgs, etc.  In this way we have only 1 trophy for each rather than a different trophy for every time a contest is won.  THEN when a person wins a second one the little trophy can/could just have a x2 added on.

I don't really like them being in the sig files though.  Pehaps under the avatars or something.  A small 20x20 icon(s) for the competitions with the number of wins next to it.  Maybe they link to the hall of fame thread or something?

BOYD1981

why not make the trophy a smaller, golden version of the winning entry on a pedestal?

Among the screenshots Maddox lists is one that includes the alien boss in question.

And why would you assume we're jealous? The sprite is typical early nineties arcade crap. Even if you somehow were Japanese and did draw the original sprite, it wouldn't count in the Jam, and it's nothing to orgasm over.

Of everyone here, you're acting the most "fucking dumb" right now.

And now hes sending me pm's saying that he would f up the thread if i say anything more.. LoL

I DONT LIKE YOU! ANGHELIC. Your everything I hate about guys that want the lime lite but cant work for it.
Start like all of us did, and get better!

And the BALLS are in his head...

If you think posting anonymously on an obscure internet forum with a sprite rip from an old game takes balls, you must live in a plastic bubble.

Hey guys... I see here "punishing" and "banning", and that sounds bad. No one has been banned atm, not even Kickme, who hacked some of the most reputated members. Sorry for that, the "punishing" world was brought for first time by me.

In the SJ thread we talked about "permanent disqualifying" in SJ.... just to make it clear. As said, I don't care, it is going to be funny to see an annoying kid trying to make a famous professional's sprite as one made by him every week.

About the little trophies, I like Darth Mandarb's idea of making a compo, and the "X2", "X3", "X4" idea Mordalles had... but maybe in the hall of fame. I am against prohibiting them in the signature, but I am almost sure most of us are going to see how silly having a signature full of trophies would be after having 3 or 4 looks...
Are you guys ready? Let' s roll!

I like that idea too, but how would it work?Ã,  Would there be a long list of every member who has won, and little trophies next to their name?Ã,  I think that would be fine, as long as it doesn't add too much of a hassle for the mods...Ã,
However, if the trophies are changed to standard smaller ones (with 2x etc.), I don't think it would be too much of a problem to leave them in the signatures, because they won't be any more intrusive than what's in there now ^_^

EDIT: Hold on, if the names were listed like I said, it would be pretty much exactly what's already in the HoF... *lol* I'll just shut up now ^_^

Sorry to butt in but lol, this isn't going anywhere anymore, it's pretty much proven that it's ripped. I suggest that if this happens more often someone could make a sticky in the competitions forum with names of people that have been proven cheats.

The idea of having a competition to make throphies is cool , but it might end up being a competition for who won the most competitions. The cool thing about getting a homemade trophy is that it's more a token of appreciation rather than another number to the winnings list.  Just my 2 cents.

Good point.

In my opinion, the Hall of Fame is doing a great job of showing who has won each comp.  The trophies are different, if you see a trophy in someone's signature, you're not going to know where they won it, or what for, you're going to say, "Why does Stefano have a golden dolphin in his sig?"

The trophies are more of a complimentary prize given by the host, saying, "Hey, nice sprite, enter again!".  The host shouldn't have to make them, or anything of that sort, because the HoF is doing a fine job of showing the winners.  Keep the trophies I say, because they aren't hurting too much, if at all, and they ARE attracting more competition, more variety, and giving out more experience.  They may just be a fad too, that will die out over time, but they're fun right now, so leave 'em alone!

My two and a half (Euro) cents:

a) If a cheater realizes and regrets his mistake, punishment shouldn't be necessary, his damaged reputation being bad enough, if a cheater is in denial, punishment probably wouldn't help in bringing him to reason and wouldn't stop him from just registering under a new name and trying again. I assume that most cheat attempts are performed by newcomers, anyway.

b) I'm against everything that increases the workload for the winner of a competiton. Sometimes trying to think of a good theme or supplying a sprite for an animation competition can be hard enough. I wouldn't want winning to start looking like some sort of ironic punishment. So, I'm definitely against making trophies mandatory. However, I feel that most people are already expecting a trophy, so the pressure is there anyway. Therefore, I am in favour of supplying a standardized set of trophies and Darth Mandarb's suggestion seems like a reasonable approach. Supplying a custom set of trophies should still be allowed though, although maybe discouraged. As for putting trophies in signatures, I have to admit that I'd probably do it as well, although I would suggest that people make the image into a link to the respective competition thread.

Regarding the Hall of Fame, is the a reason it starts in 2005? There a still threads from 2004 around and I remember winning a sprite jam in 2003 (mainly due to lack of entries), which is why I'm asking of course. ;)

If anybody still has even the slightest of doubts about the cheating attempt, I suggest downloading this video (17 MB) and going to 16:43. :o

What really troubles me though, is that it was necessary for someone new to register (kudos BTW) in order to expose the cheater. Do you think there is a risk of a cheater cheating successfully and are there any safeguards against something like that? ???

Edit: One more thing, slightly off-topic: The animation competition is currently not listed in the forum charter.
I look just like Bobbin Threadbare.

What? Noone tried to cheat in the compo before you say? Everyone forgot about the Spongebobsprite that Corey "Made"?
