I'm gonna put a tutorial on my site on how I paint in deluxe paint II. But first I need to know if the angles are right.

This pic bg was painted by me ( color and gradients ) and Afflict from this forumÃ,  ( layout, setup )

Anybody wondering where the site is just click cjhrules's banner :)

... Well after we are sure the angles are right :)

I am afraid, your perspective is pretty much wrong.

Take a look:

All those red lines would need to meet in ONE single point. However, the room has a good atmosphere to it and most of the red lines aren't THAT far away from each other - the only thing that is WAY out of perspective is the table in the middle in my opinion. You should change that, the rest is not 100% right, but still okay to look at (perspective-wise).

However, I'd really like to see a tutorial about your drawing style and would be quite interested (and am sure that a lot of others here are interested as well), so don't let that take away motivation. The background looks good and a tutorial would be great! :)

EDIT: MashPotato was faster, I am posting anyways... 8)

HI!

Thanks for the quick reply! I will have to redraw the picture anyway for the tutorial anyway so I can describe step by step, so I am glad you showed me how the angels should be. I have never used critics launge before and just painted my bg's as I "think" they should be so I am glad to know something about angels now. :)

Quick question. How long are you in this room for?

If the answer is "a few minutes." then just move on to another background. The only reason I ask is because it looks like Dr. Jones' classroom or something and I'm just imagining that the majority of the game doesn't take place in this background.

But even if this background is used a lot, it's good to keep in mind background use when it comes to effort put into an image and redoing one.

Well maybe now i am giving some wrong directions but this is how I would have drawn this backaround:

See?
I would have drawn lines from the corners and ALL diagonal lines should be two pixel-up-two pixel-up like shown on the picture thenÃ,  i would have drawn the box( look closly there is a red box on the picture andÃ,  the box can be as big as you want)
And then I would have drawn the backaround by the lines

BTW the box is the back wall
- They are all from AGS coloringball

Eric has a point but alas I already did it over completely...

The angles are perfect however I think the LC style didnt care too much angles... regardless what do you guys think of this bg now?

cjhrules

well... I have noticed that some of the bg's in last crusade and the bg that we have looked at for our layout has the same angels as ours... that is the wrong angels. Should I stick with my old bg?

MashPotato

Your old BG is good :).  While the angles are not strictly "correct", they are close enough that I wouldn't worry about it, and the BG looks perfectly functional.  I probably wouldn't have even noticed the angles if you hadn't asked ^_^

One thing I WOULD change, though, is the angle of the desk.  Like dkh said, the desk is noticeably off compared to everything else.

...unless, of course, it's supposed to be a trapezoidal, rather than a rectangular, desk. ;)
I look just like Bobbin Threadbare.

yes, if you really want an inconsistent game.

MrColossal

If I'm making a game and the character will walk through a scene and be in that scene for 2 minutes, I am not going to put 10 hours of work into it. This, in my opinion, is common sense.

But this is not the place for this discussion, anyway.

I think you need to darken the outline to the desk, it kinda of gets lost in the browns of the scene.

if you say so.

???

actually I noticed that the angels in last crusade are a litle of so the angles in this bg is ok by that standard.

Afflict

Well the total time spent on this background was not all that bad. Regardless When I play a game the game world needs to appeal to me since I am a creature of visual stimulation :)

So the time spent is fine in my opinion regardless wheterver or not the background is used.

Ps: Wierd part is that LC style Bgs are mostly all out of perspective...
