It worked for Apprentice, why not give it a shot myself?

After going to the Everglades with Farlander and Lorena on the day of the AGS Awards, I decided I should remake Ben Jordan 1, for several reasons, but mainly because the current version is a pretty weak game to start off a series.

So what's so Deluxe about it? Here are the new features:

- Extended story and puzzles (with help from Creed Malay)
- Full voice acting
- Updated graphics, sprites, and character portraits

Here are some comparison screenshots to demonstrate the graphical updates.

It is? I never played your sequels after this one. (I don't play many AGS games at all these days.. I just like the forum) I always wondered why people were so mad on them. This game was okay, it was just the plot and the puzzles that didn't agree with me.

Ubel

Hey Grundi, as I probably already told you before: Nice stuff! Full voice acting, eh? That's neat! I don't really see a reason for remaking the game though, since I think it's very nice as it is. But apparently you disagree with me. :)

When are you planning on releasing this? Oh wait... Maybe it's better for you not to answer. :D

Mordalles

hello. glad to see delux version.

i was just thinking, that with the ben jordan popularity, why don't you get yourself a really good artist (someone close to professional), and really go full out with the painted backgrounds? i'm sure you won't have trouble finding someone who would be willing to work on the established ben jordan series.  ;) that would really take this series into a whole new level. and leave the rest of us far behind.  :)

I know, I know, not the critique's lounge, but c'mon! Which trees look better?

Yay but are you still gonna make case 6? :)

I think it looks more as a different style than as an improvement....
I don think the "deluxe" version looks graphically superior, besides the character sprite from the last BJ.

I think you should follow Mordalles advice, and find a "professional" artist because I don't think is worthy to make a new version if the changes are not substantial.  ;D
QuoteWell, one think is not liking him, and the other is making humour of the retarder people!

We wouldn't want it to look durastically different from all the other games in the series, though.

Hammerite

I'd like to see new style Ben rather than the old cartoony one, though then again, I'd be happier if Ben 6 was your main priority.
BTW, is the extended storyline going to go deeper in that continuing one you mentioned?
i used to be indeceisive but now im not so sure!

Nacho

Weeeh! I was witness of the genesis of this game! Glad to see this is official! ^_^
Are you guys ready? Let' s roll!

Ali

I'm really pleased to see this too. I think improving on the puzzles and atmosphere would be really great. The first game just isn't quite as Ben-Jordanny as the rest. Maniac Matt would do well to play the others.

I think the graphical improvements are subtle but significant. I know this isn't the Critics Lounge, but I find the graphical style to be functional, likeable and in all but part 1, consistent.

A total revamp of the graphics with the help of this mythical "professional" is something I think you should maybe consider for part 8, but I don't think it should be your priority.

sergiocornaga

Wait... what about revamped music?

Afflict

The game will lose its flair. I agree that the series was good but if your going to revamp make it decent. The new graphics look wierd, they look furry if you will.

I agree with Mordalles on this, get someone close to pro to redo your bgs and that will be awesome.

Well, I like it!
Full voice acting, eh? That's going to be interresting.
Do you already have a complete cast?
And if yes, would you reveal it?

Yes, there is a cast, but revealing them would ruin the fun.Ã,  ;)

sergiocornaga

Ooh! I smell AGSers! Man that sounds wrong... uh... well, I hope you'll be doing some voice acting yourself, Grund, you were pretty good in Fatman.

Yeah, you might be right.
But I always wondered what Ben might sound like.
I'm so looking forward to find out!

Chicky

Hey Grudi, if you need someone to beta test the puzzles who's never played any of the BJ games then give me a shout.

Hammerite

could there be voice acting in 6 or did you not manage to get John Cleese for Percival?
i used to be indeceisive but now im not so sure!

Nathan23

That's great man and I like you decision for the full acting voice, Finally we will know the voice of BJ, but I was wondering.... hum you are part of the cast, aren't you?.. well I hope the puzzles will be interesting.
