Star Wars or Star Trek?

Star Trek. Just because as bad as some of it is (I'm referring to a lot of Voyager and most of Enterprise), at least Paramount is allowing it's fans access to it, as expensive as the DVD sets may be. With Star Trek, there's no one person who holds sway over the series and can change it at will.

Just imagine how bad it would be if the only versions of the original series availible had updated CGI effects, and shots of Red Shirts shooting first before they died?

Either one is fine. Just remember, what will offend a fan more than anything is if you make fun of something, but get it wrong. So as long as all your jokes are accurate, most fans can enjoy a few laughs at their expense.

And for the record, I'm more of a Babylon 5 fan over both series.

Meh, Firefly ALL the gorram way! ;D

But if I had to choose one, it'd be star wars. Although it's been spoofed quite a lot by now. Either one could work well really, as long as you avoid any of the really obvious gags that've been done a million times before.

I think some of those star trek fan series like you have under your banner are more like parodies lol
I wouldn't say Star Trek New Voyages is like a parody. Each episode is well produced. Even so they a look here http://66.221.175.127/cadysystemsgroup/startrek/movies/Death_TUC.avi ultimatly serious and awesomly cool.

ManicMatt

Ah, it was a Star trek intrepid trailer, made me laugh! And when I said parody, that was a tenous link and me taking the piss!

I downloaded the file only to get a "invalid menu handle" message or something! Egad that keeps happening to me! I'm gonna have to google the problem and get back to you on whether the star trek thing is any good. (IMO)

lo_res_man

I heard somewhere that "New Voyages" uses the theme from "Galaxy Quest" . Anyone  seen THAT movie? ;D

The problem with New Voyages is the actors are very wooden for the most part.  I think it could be a great show if they snagged some actors guild people that wanted experience, and the cgi effects are rather good.

Disco

I've not seen Galaxy Quest, but if you mean main theme, they use the same one as the original Star Trek, the series they are continuing. Paramount has allowed them to continue so long as they don't make money from it, and many popular writers from the franchise are attached to it, such as D. C. Fontana writing the next episode, and two DS9 writers on the next.

Nah, if anyone does that I'll go all River Tam on their ass  :D see my avatar. Anyways, there was a parody called "Mosquito" which was apparently well-produced and funny, though I've not seen it. Also, there is a serious fan project going called "Into the Black" that is based in the Firefly verse, produced by a group of Vancouver Browncoats.

cheeba

Yeah, cool avvy, though it's starting to give me a strange urge to beat up a barful of thugs :-\

I've heard about into the black, apparently Nathan Fillion even gave them a little extra funding for it (could that guy be any cooler?). Incidentally, I think a non-parody firefly adventure would be pretty shiny.

I should have pegged you as a browncoat when I read about your game  ;). I'm a bit disappointed in myself, I usually have an excellent Whedondar  :).

Babylon 5 kicks both their arses!

i used to be indeceisive but now im not so sure!

Well, at first I was trying to make Stargate Parody, but later changed my mind and made just  normal Stargate Adventure.

Althou I thought much about the SG parody, like parallel universe (remember "paralel" mirror :) ), which would contain SG-1 team with different models, like switching Daniel Jackson with Michael Jackson :).

Names woulde be:
Jack ->  Joke
Daniel Jackson - > Jack Daniels (Whiskey:))
Teal'c -> Thick (suits him)
... well, nevermind that..

I just thought this thread makes it look like they are only two type of people: those who love Star Trek and hate Star Wars and vice versa. This can'tÃ,  be true.

I, myself, love BOTH the Star Wars Trilogy* AND Star Trek (especially TOS and the TOS-related movies).

(* intentional, I don't like the new movies)

I also like Red Dwarf and Stargate SG-1, for example, but I didn't see an extensive amount of episodes.

lo_res_man

well that wasn't my intention, it was to see which one would less likely cause raving fans to come and kill me as an heretic. ;D in other news, I have decide to make a Star trek game. not know of course but later, quite a bit later.

Has anyone seen this yet? http://www.spikedhumor.com/articles/31496/Lost_Star_Wars_Intro.html

It's an old deleted Star Wars scene where Luke meets his friends.

Nacho

A part, if not all,  of it's somewhere in the DVD special release... It's where he speaks with Briggs and his friends telling them he has seen the battle between the Tantive IV and the ISD, no?
Are you guys ready? Let' s roll!

Don't know if it's available anywhere anymore (downloaded it some years ago with BitTorrent) but I think I read somewhere that that footage was from the Star Wars Behind the Magic multimedia cd-rom. Not sure, though, I don't have a copy.

Hammerite

Red Dwarf seriously IS the greatest science-fiction television program. Even though its a parody, it kicks Star Trek and Star Wars for both sci-fi AND humour.

(i mean the uk one, not the real bad american remake)

lo_res_man

I like Lexx myself. Its not my fave sci-fi on tv, its just a lot a fun, rather weird, and quite different. but beware of looking up fansites. You can read some disturbing posts about Stanley Tweedle, and what some woman what to do with him, and that’s just in googles previews :P

Yeah, I've only caught a few episodes of lexx late nights on the sci-fi channel, but really liked what I saw, it manages to be fun and insanely inventive even on a shoestring budget. Of course, having Eva Habermann/Xenia Seeberg on board doesn't hurt either ;D
