This is my first game I made using AGS. It's got a lot of flaws, but what can i say, its my first game. I in fact made it quite some time ago, but i never had the internet running so i haven't had a chance to put it on the net.

Hotel Hell is about a young adult named Adrien Russell who is on the run from the law. He has been accused of committing a terrible crime, but he does not remember doing such a thing. He has fled Perth and is on his way to Melbourne for a fresh start. He stays at a hotel in a small city named Archeron and little does he know what awaits him.
The next morning he finds that he is being held hostage in the hotel by an invisible intelligence. Whatever has him there wants revenge. And it will do anything to get it.
But he is not the only victim. There are others in this hotel and as the numbers drop, and the suspicion grows- this hotel becomes a very dangerous place. Little does Adrien know, his past holds a deadly secret...

You can download the Demo at:

If you get stuck, there is a walkthrough at:

By the way this game was abandoned some time ago, so don't be surprised when you reach the unexpected ending.

So hang on, is this a demo? But is a demo of an abandoned project? So it this as complete it's ever going to get? Just making sure.
Reach for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars.

Yes, It is a demo of an abandoned game, and this is as complete as it will get. I suppose it's not really a game, It was kind of a learning experiment. I made the game up as i went, and learnt most of the basics of AGS. But regardless, i put it here so it looks like i have accomplished something until i make a proper game.

GuyLaDouche

Well, for a learning experiment, it was quite fun. Veeery 5DAS inspired, but if I might say some things:

Spoiler

The perspective of the rooms is quite funky throughout the game (top-down, yet not really)
Not being allowed to pick up an object because you don't need it yet isn't fun (especially when it tells you that a cabinet is empty when it has something later on :/).
The game had a lot of rooms for how many were really used in the end.

Other than that, it was alright :)

Rusty

I thought it was a highly enjoyable game, especially for a first attempt! It's unfortunate your not continuing it, but regardless i look forward to your other games.

I recommend other people to play this game. Its pretty darn good for a first try!

I have to say that I didn't really like this game, as there were parts of it I didn't like. For example, when you go down the vent, it was hard to see, in my opinion, the pathway south. It was mainly little things like that which annoyed me, good luck with your next game.

Yes I see what you mean. In fact I had someone else say to me that it was hard to see the pathway south. They must have spent 20 minutes in the vent trying to figure out what to do nextÃ,  :-\

Just played it through. I agree with Jojoboy's "not being allowed to pick up an item" gripe, and with the vent and darkness issues, but they didn't *really* bother me. Storywise and dialog-wise there's some things I'd rather have seen done differently, but I have to say the overall result is quite enjoyable, and I am truly sorry that I won't be able to play the full game. I suppose you can't be convinced to reconsider it's "abandoned" status?

Thanks Rui Pires, im glad you liked it!   :D

I have had some people pm me about reconsidering its abandoned status, and i have taken it into consideration. Seeing that i made this game (well demo) about 2 years ago when i was 14, i didnt really want to continue it.. BUT, i thought of maybe redoing it and making it better then ever! (and complete!). At the moment i am working on Azunite's Tale, an RPG/Adventure game. There is a thread on it in the 'In Production' area of the forums!

Also thanks for commenting, and if you get the time, how about voting for my game?  :) please! :) And seeing im a newbie and all, feel free to critic on the story and dialog, i know you said there was a few things u said u would have done differently.

In fact i wasnt sure that i wanted to put this game up on AGS, seeing that i was 14 when i done it, and it has a lot of problems, AND its not complete, and its two years old.

Well anyway thanks for the advice!  ;)

Buckethead

wow great! I hope you do finish it some day! Good luck with it, it's really nice so far!

Hey i played your game, and i must say i was really impressed. There was some minor problems, but as 'Trovatore' said, it didnt bother me either. Towards the ending the game got really good, and then it ended. I think that remaking this game would be a great idea, plus you'd be able to fix up all the minor problems people suggested. I liked the music heaps, and graphics were pretty good! Thanks!

Rusty

Oh awesome, Ur gonna remake the game! So are you gonna like make the graphics all new and better? And what about the story so far and the puzzles? Oh, and how long do you think it will take for you finish Azunite's Tale and start making Hotel Hell 2, or the return or whatever you decide to call it lol!  :D

Well I'm working on Azunite's Tale independantly, and there is a lot of scripting involved in it, so its going to be several monthes until i finish it. I'll probably get a chance to start on it towards the end of 2007, maybe september or something.

And i will redo the graphics, and most of the puzzles, dialog and story. But it will still have the same theme. Can't say what I'll call the game. Maybe something like The Return to Hotel Hell.

So What does everyone think? Should I remake Hotel Hell?

Well anyway, thanks for posting!  ;)

Yes, it was a great demo and I would love a full game.

Kreator

Ok, I have decided to remake Hotel Hell, So what should i change? The perspective in the first Hotel Hell game was rather.. odd. I've been thinking about either doing one of the following:

Which one do you think i should do?
And what else do you recommend i change? I didn't like the story in the first game much, so i'm likely to change some dialog and story. All the characters and puzzles will be different too, so you wont feel like your playing the same game. But the theme about getting stuck in a Hotel will be the same.

Please express your thoughts and recommedations on Hotel Hell, I want to the game 'Return to Hotel Hell' to patch up any mistakes or errors in the first one.

Thanks everybody, and please let me know what you think! :)

Hammerite

i think the first one looks the best. in my opinion
i used to be indeceisive but now im not so sure!

Cinfa

I like isometric, but the one used in pixel art, so the perspective view is the best here.
