After a long and deep discussion with Tuomas about chocolate milk and hot chocolate, I decided to post this here to hear what you have to say on the subject.
Today, I recieved a parcel from the old ones with some sorely needed supplies from the old country including my favourite chips, my headset and, just that, chocolate milk powder. In my ecstacy I told Tuomas about my newly arrived late night pleasures, but he responded; "hot chocolate? they must have it, i've seen it on telly so many times :)". That's what I reacted to.
Is hot chocolate powder thingy and chocolate milk powder thingy the same thing? They both carry the golden taste of chocolate and they both have the same powdery form.

I would guess that, if you have two products side by side with those names, the hot chocolate powder is simply cocoa and who knows what other stuff, that you're supposed to mix with milk. Chocolate milk powder would then be the same cocoa-and-stuff, with the added ingredient of powdered milk, which you're supposed to mix with water, ending up with much the same stuff.

I don't really know, though, and I don't have time to do geek-research on it right now.

Tuomas

mm'mm hot chocolate.

But indeed. The way I see it, I take a glass and up cup from the cupboard. Then I pour milk into both of them. Most preferrably not lo-fat milk, but the true stuff. Then I draw a teaspoon and a bag of choco powder. I spoon 4-5 spoonfuls of chocofied spoonage from the chocobag and apply them with both milk glassycups. That makes 8-10 spoonfuls of spoonage together. Then I mix and twirl and twist and shout, c'mon baby yeah! (shouting is optional though). And here's the difference. If I want it hot like Meryl Streep on her young days, I put it in the hotbox, or microwave if you wish, and heat it up. That's hot chocolate. Otherwise I just drink it fromt heglass. That's the beauty of a galss and a cup!

But do they sell that powder there? People talk about hot chocolate, but what about the cold one? Just as good imo.

What on earth? Are you mixing your chocolate milk powder with water?!

Tuomas

Umm, what? That's like making milk by adding milk powder to water O_O

Indeed! The cold chocolate is just as yummy as the hot one and it is a shame if the English aren't allowed this pleasure!
But Tuomas, why can't you put the glass in the hotbox?

Well, do you mix hot chocolate powder with chocolate?

Tuomas

Well I have experience of exploding rice pies and stuff. My mom told me never to put glass int he microwave, but I once did by accident put a rice pie with cheese on into it and it was on a glassplate. Well the plate went to pieces with bangs. And i don't want my hot chocolate to be all over the box. That and there's no handle on the glass, so it would be hard to move it about or drink while it's hot, hence my preferance for cups and mugs! :)

EldKatt

I've always been told similar things about heating glass. That's why the exotic, continental habit of drinking coffee from a glass shocked me greatly!

Erm... No...? That would be quite meaningless, wouldn't it, mixing chocolate with chocolate..? I mix it with milk! Same as cold chocolate milk. I mix it with milk..!
As for glass in the micro, I can't really see how it'll explode. In fact, in our micro, there is a glass plate for you to put your stuff on that spins around like a little carousel!

Tuomas

It's special glass, take a look at it. They have that in certain places just for that, though it's really heavy and not practical for plate-use etc.

Yes, I think hot chocolate powdery stuff and chocolate milk powdery stuff is just the same thing. But then there's also the cocoa powder which is that bittery stuff that only freaks who like Dark chocolate like. I prefer my chocolate milk cold and mixed with milk, even when the powder contains milk powder. Maybe adding milk powder to milk makes it supermilk?

edit: Oh, and I sometimes open up a fresh can of milk and add the chocolately powdery stuff in it and then just shake and stir. Then I can keep the can in the fridge and have a nice glass of cold chocolate milk when I want without all the hassle with the powder (some of it usually ends up on the table).

Tuomas

Oh oh ooh. I just orgasmed thinking of that. What a splendid idea! I'll never drink plain milk again! Love to you Zabbyding

vict0r

But wouldn't that require that you loose at least some of the milk before adding the powder, to avoid the milk flowing over..?

Sylvr

OT I know... but.. Tuomas, you are particularly amusing today. Your first post especially made me laugh.

How could I leave that unreplied? Oh yeah, it's OT, so I must. Sry, but you're a sweet-talker you ;) Also, if that is true, then I've reached my goal for today, I'll buy the horsehead and the samovar later (this is something only Vict0r will understand, but by time you all will ;)) I'm off to eat some chocolate-kebab. See you in a fiver!

Goal for today, yes... But we have much greater plans! In 10 years or so, you'll all find him in every history book and you'll all recall his name... Forever!!

Depends on the brand.

There's the kind you mix with milk, the kind you mix with water, and the kind you mix with water but includes powdered milk.

There's the kind with a lot of cocoa, and the kind with less.

No, chocolate milk powder is made to be dissolved in cold milk while hot chocolate powder is made to be dissolved in hot water. And while it's possible to make an hot chocolate with chocolate milk powder (although the taste will greatly differ), it's not possible to make chocolate milk with hot chocolate powder, the powder will remain at the top of the milk and stick together rather than getting dissolved.
