Hello hello!

A stand-alone demo of Blackwell Convergence is now available.  It's a bit on the short side, but has a self-contained story, 500+ lines of voiced dialog, and four ways to get to the end.

So check it out. Yar.

Hey, cool. I'll give it a play this afternoon when I have a chance for a proper sitdown.

Dave,

Brilliant demo. Congratulations to you and your team for what is shaping up to be a brilliant looking game. I had to make sure I did the four ways (I hope) to get to the end, and I loved it. The little bit of dialogue about the paperclip made me laugh, as did the way Joey and Rosa smile in a "Trust me" kinda way.

Graphics, sound, music, gameplay and story are all top notch.

Good work.

Dave?

first of all a bug:

Tried moving (as I always do) a note from the notebook to show the inventory and try to combine them.

Other than that it looks really polished, but also really... fammiliar. It's good to see the usual faces and hear the usual voices, along with the usual music together again. :)

I'll be buying it! ;)

Cino

I encountered one as well trying to unlock the door with the clip with the instructions on

But other than that, everything was on spot again. I hope this means the full version is near completion. And I hope you keep on making games for a long time.

Is that like the demo to SQ6? Like a mini-game, a situation that won't happen in the real game?
Reach for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars.

Kneel. Now.

Never throw chicken at a Leprechaun.

GarageGothic

Great demo, Dave. And the theme music is absolutely wonderful. Does this mean that the full game is nearing release?

Sooorta.  The scene is more of a "tutorial level", which introduces all the gameplay concepts at the very beginning of the game.  In TV shows you often get a "lead-in" scene, something that takes place right before the opening credits that has nothing to do with the rest of the story.  That's what this demo is.  It'll be in the game, but it'll be seperate from the main story.

And Cino: buh?  Yeesh I've had 10 testers go over this demo for a few weeks now and none of them ever encountered that bug.  I think I know what causes it though.

Nice Demo but....

right at the end, you see a few character sprites. Is it just me or does everyone else (as in apart from Rosa and Joey) have bigger heads? It's probably just my eyes playing with me and even if they were bigger, I still have no complaints.

voh

Liked the demo, though there does seem to be a visible difference in the old sprites (Joey and Rosa) compared to the new ones.

Not too big of a problem though :)

Can't wait!
Still here.

Awesome demo, Dave. It's easily my most favorite out of the three Blackwell demos you've released so far. Everything in it was great. I do however have to agree about the other character sprites being in a different style.

Hi all.  Just a little bump to let you know that this project isn't dead.  As I've mentioned before, I've gone with a studio here in NYC to do the background art, and Shane Stevens has been working on the new sprites.  There will be more to show, soon.  But in the meantime, here are some screenshots showing the new style:

Remember this room from Legacy?  It looks different now.

Rosa walks around an empty office.  Joey peeks through the door in a ghostly fashion.

Rosa's apartment has also gotten a facelift.

Visit authentic NYC locations, like the old Minetta Tavern.

A locked door.  Most adventure game characters would be frustrated by this, but not Joey.

As always, you can learn more by checking out the Wadjet Eye Games site.

Looks great, Dave. That restaurant has an almost Gabriel Knight feel to it. But didn't you say in your video that you wouldn't be releasing screenshots for this game, or were you just talking about work in progress?

Darth Mandarb

Amazing stuff!  Really good to see an update!  Keep up the [professional] good work :)

The backgrounds work nicely.

The new style is looking extremely nice!

Hopefully it won't last long before the game is released...

Brad Newsom

Brilliant work. Love the new art style for the backgrounds. Glad you are working with a studio this time around.

I love the fact you are going with full screen background art this time around, also the color palette used is gorgeous. :D

Dave Gilbert

Thanks everyone. :)  I'm very excited about the new art direction.  Hopefully I'll have an ETA update soon.
