I feel like I am totally out of touch with the lives of the great AGSers!(YOU) :-\

Now don't get me wrong SSH's Blog is awesome and he should get a massive thank you from each one you individually. Although I can't just get my AGS hit from a blog. I just don't feel I see the same creativity of the AGS community as I used to. I used to love reading the forums, getting thousands of ideas and totally impressed by the talent we have in the community. I was proud to be "part" of this community. Now you could call me a hypocrite for not posting as much others, or call this is as my own creative block and my individual problem. But I can't be the only one that feels that the forums could be so much more. I'm not demanding the monkey to dance, but I feel the community has lost its connection (as a whole).

I just wondered if anyone was feeling the same way?

About the Forums...Getting better all the time.

Andail

This is different for everyone, and it will change over time. Sometimes you've got the flow, sometimes you don't.

You've been here for like half a year, which is a bit short to make statements regarding community trends.

I personally think that the community is in a very optimistic and constructive phase, with lots of people returning, lots of games released - and in progression, lots of funny stuff going on.

bicilotti

Agree with you indie. Lots of nice stuff is happening, but I cannot find the right place to get / give feedback about it, I don't feel stimulated as back in the days; I feel, like you, I'm losing touch.

It might be an individual problem, I just feel difficult to press that post/reply button sometimes.

Dualnames

Well, I usually post around 13 answers a day I  login and sometimes there's really not much to add and say.
Worked on Strangeland, Primordia, Hob's Barrow, The Cat Lady, Mage's Initiation, Until I Have You, Downfall, Hunie Pop, and every game in the Wadjet Eye Games catalogue (porting)

I have been here longer, just I started to become an active poster in the last year or so. Although I understand that I can't make big claims over what the forums were or should be. Still I just feel there is some kind of void.

I dunno, it might just be me.

Hm. I've been here for a bit over two years, and I don't feel much of a difference. There aren't many threads-made-of-awesome going on right now (apart from the 'stache challenge, of course), but I haven't noticed voids of any kind either.

abstauber

Well I've just dropped in after 7 years of absence, but this place inspires me alot lately. There's the critics lounge and all those competitions. For me, this is all new, but after all, this place is mainly about making games hence it could become boring after all.

What I find even more interesting, is that lately a lot of people coming back to this place. Like Squinky, Octompus/Simple/Phil and myself.

I'd wonder who's next... Greg Hurst? Bubba? Those Gods of AGS crew (like salva or Reto Schmid)??

LimpingFish

I don't know, I've been active for four and a half years, and I'm still having as much fun as I ever did. I don't see much change, beyond the odd voice missing being from the forums. Oh, we may not have had any behemoth debate threads in a bit, but in a way I'm glad about that. I don't have the energy (or the inclination for that matter) to take part in such things anymore.

I'm comfortable here, I like the people, and I can express my thoughts and feelings in a way that I partially lack the ability to do in "real" life. I don't feel the need to maintain a constant presence here, and I don't expect to get any more from this community than what I'm willing to put into it. And that suits me fine.

Quotelots of funny stuff going on.

We agreed never to discuss this publicly, Andail.

YOU LIED TO ME!   :(

Well, it's still the same thing, people still nevermind my posts and replies, so no worries nothing's changed.

I had no idea IndieBoy was such a forum newbie. Shows how much I know. I think that the forum just has up and down periods of high activity and this time of year it's just in one of its slower activity periods.

And basically from my past experience, forum revival threads are often a major flop anyway.

Nostalgia threads ain't what they used to be...

On the other hand, all the best posts in my blog are the old ones

Ok ok, up and downs periods.

But without doubt we are seeing the brith of many places (SSH blog or [omissis 'till author's placet]) that orbit around AGS (producing some great material).
This is marvellous and to be encouraged, yet the forums are no more the centre of the universe. Physiological, but not a seasonal trend, more a long term one imo.

Looking at this graph of number of posts over time, does anyone else see a remarkable resemblance to the value of the Dow Jones over the same period?

This can mean only one thing: The bottom is about to fall out of the adventure gaming industry- quickly, sell your shares before they lose even more value!

First Person Shooters ↑ 30.6%   Real time strategies ↓ 12%   Platformers ↑ 23%   Adventure Games ↓ 206.6%

I'm curious... what is the correlation between average poster's age and that graph? Is it possible to get that information?

I've noticed that a lot of us are about the same age range, there's a few oldies (sorry guys) but the majority of the people I remember seem were in the late teens/early twenties. Perhaps all of us are going through the same stages in life, we've had more things to do than post on the forum?

I've been gone for like two years and I still see the same faces in most threads. That's why I'm asking :)

Oh, and there are three things that rekindled by interest:

1. SSH's blog.
2. I turned on e-mail when there are replies to a thread I posted.
3. I turned on e-mail notification when I get a private message.

# 2. and 3. came from getting used to the facebook style. # 1. is just <3.

I know were'a bunch of old codgers complaining about how the interwebs used to be all <table>s and internet explorer, but times and habits change. Just having the ags forums behave a little more like facebook keeps me paying more attention. Though, I can't be here all the time, either. I'm not even using ags that much!

TerranRich

I'm buyin' some stock in FPS and PLAT right now!

Is this a bear market, a bull market, or a monkey [island] market?
