Anybody still collect old record albums?

I bought these years ago for about a dollar for each one.  I cherish these old albums and would never part with them.

Do any other AGS'ers have a decent collection of old albums?

I have actually toyed with the idea of getting a cheap record player and going on the the prowl for recorded oddities of the sort that get found on http://wmfu.org

But the local charity shops seem to have a crippling lack of strange obscure records and a lot... Well, a lot of Genesis for a start.

Record collecting, yet another hobby I just plain don't have the stamina for.

EDIT: Actually, I just had a thought... I wonder how much machines that can record lp's into a digital format are... If I wanted a Genesis album I could potentially save a lot of money on music...

I've got a few albums:

AC/DC Back In Black
Aerosmith's Greatest Hits
Kiss
and the Star Wars soundtrack

None of which were originally mine, I got them at a yard sale for 50 cents each I think it was.

I would love to find a place online somewhere where I can buy new records, but I can't seem to find a place. I'd really love to own the AC/DC box set which includes every one of their albums including Black Ice. This is of course just about $300..... maybe some day

About $120 Canadian, maybe a bit less by now. I know Costco sells them.

EDIT: The only vinyl album I own is Explosions in the Sky's "The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place." I do not, however, own a turntable, so it gets left at my parents' place and I listen to it on my dad's every once in a while when I'm around there.

I was quite the vinyl collector a few years back, going to flea markets every weekend, checking record bins outside thrift shops etc. Unfortunately I neither have the time, nor are there any good flea markets nearby after I moved - and way too many professional buyers sniffing around when the stallholders unpack their goods at the break of dawn. A shame really, it was fun while it lasted.

I don't listen to Phill Collins but I do own the Duke album (read: my dad does but I'm the only one that still play them).
There are a few stores that sell lp's here, including 2 big electric stuff outlets. They sell mainly the well known ones which doesn't really bother me. Eric Clapton, Portis Head and Iron Maiden all next to eachother.
There are also stores here that sell indie stuff (a friend of mine bought a Beirut album I think), second hand albums (bought a shitty Jethro Tull album there) and dj stuff though I wouldn't dare venture in there.
My record player is an old thing that might be older than me. It works fine and It can ampify so much that I can't even put the volume slider higher than half way. I've seen new ones with usb ports for copying lp's to the computer but I'll stick to this one.

I really own just five vinyl records, all are relatively new, from this decade anyway. But there's a heap of old ones down stairs, and a working player. I've sort of forgotten the habit, but I used to go down there and listen through all the obscurities I'd find in my parents' record collection. It's not huge, but still... For example I recognised the Ramones record off GG's picture, and I'm pretty sure I've seen the Sex Pistols album down there.

My own player's been broken for a while and I haven't gotten around to fixing it yet, but yeah, I do love the style old lp records have to them. Once I get my hands on some spare money I'll sure try to include a number of lp purchases in my expenses, too.

Most of the records I have are from my father's collection, and I don't really collect myself, so they  vary all the way from waltz songs to 'Silver Convention' .

Along with my what, 200 Cds, I've collected just a little bit under 100 vinyls, which I play regularly, basically including all those Genesis albums in the first post plus some more, all of Led Zeppelin, Motörhead, Uriah Heep, some Deep Purple, Jethro Tull, Yes, Roxy Music Brahms, Chopin + some others, The Doors, Marillion plus quite a few Estonian prog-rock rarities that I got from my dad. My latest one I bought on last monday, it was Genesis - Selling England By the Pound. I could provide a list later if anyone's interested. That mentioned, I gave quite a few of them away when I moved because I didn't have enough space for Big Country and all that jazz in the new place. It's a shame really, especially since now I'm running short of space again.

What do you mean a shitty Jethro Tull album? As in, bad shape?

I have a fair collection LP's. Got some Beatles, Bob Dylan, Simon and Garfunkel, and tons more. We used to have a lot more, but we moved, and in the process, through out a bunch.

If anyone knows where I can find a really cheap turn table, I'd love to listen to these.

gemm.com is a good place to buy old records. I found all albums, EPs and singles of a very obscure band there. Never had a problem.

Edit: Okay, the albums there aren't exactly new. Anyway....
