How about a mags that encourages anyone with unfinished games from any era to complete them in a month (at least enough to be playable)?  This may attract the interest of people like me who have several 25-75% finished full length games that for whatever reason we've abandoned.  This way everyone wins even if there has to be a courtesy 'win'.

The only issue I've ever had with this idea is that it alienate people that do not have partially completed projects and it would be little silly to say: you people that don't have any games, JUST MAKE ANYTHING! YAY!

Am I alone on this?
All my trophies have disappeared... FINALLY! I'm free!

I actually think that this idea by Progzmax is so good, it should be an established and recurring MAGS theme. Almost anybody on these forums has some kind of unfinished game rotting along on his harddrive, never finished because of technical issues, lack of motivation, scheduling problems...

I also think that this might have been perfect to coincide with the easter holidays (most countries do have them, right?) to make for a nice holistic resurrection MAGS.

Well, maybe not. But the idea is great, and having one of those every year would mean much more great games with maybe tiny little flaws to play.

Also, Igor's serious B-movie theme is A+.
I, object.

As ProgZ mentioned, i fully support the 'finish a GIP' idea. It would be great to keep it under the MAGS name though.

OneDollar

Progz's idea is a good one, but I don't know how suited to MAGS it is because some people will potentially have games they've abandoned after two years and other after two days. It still gets my vote though.

Help newbie to make a game of his dreams!

Find an AGS newbie with cool game idea. Every participant makes a game based on newbie's scenario, regardless of how silly it is.  ;D

What would be even more brilliant would be turning it into a TV show, like Extreme Home Makeover - But with nerds!

Who would be considered a newbie?  Less than a year in the forums?  Calin Leafshade has been here less than a year, is he a newbie?

I encourage Progz's idea, even though there aren't any games that I left in production that I'm willing to resurrect.

Stupot

I'm in the 'Finish a GIP' camp.  And also reckon it should be an annual event.  Would be cool to really plug it aswell,  Mags doesn't get many entries, but this should be seen annually as THE Mags to enter if you're going to enter at all.

If we can wait until summer, I'm in.  Bit bogged down with Uni work at the mo.

You have a point there. But I mean "noob" type of a newbie  :)
That is - a random guy or girl who's relatively new to AGS forums and don't have enough skill and/or courage to actually start making a game.

Ofcourse, the newbie should willingly accept to share his idea with participants  ;D

GarageGothic

I think it's a great idea, but I'm a bit worried about how it'll turn out in practice. The approach of making a game "regardless of how silly it is" very easily leads to parody and mocking of the idea - and even with the newbie giving permission, having ten people make games saying how rubbish your ideas are is not a cool welcome to the forums.

"Make it better!" would probably be a more constructive attitude, and probably allow for more variety in the end results.

What about demakes?
Oh, I loved the Tigsource Demake competition, and it made a few great hits like Eversion and LGIU. I think an AGS Demake Comp would be hilarious.

Intense Degree

Well, you'd have to have rules or rough guidelines as to the ideas. I'm not sure how many RPG's with 10,000+ enemies could be made in a month?  ;)

Or I suppose it could even be taken in the direction of pairing up willing "noobs" and er... whatever it is you would call the other participants to share the work on the games. Not sure if/how that would really work in practice though.

Scarab

My vote goes to ProgZ's.
Jut throwin' it out there :)

Calin Leafshade

I am still a newbie! I hold onto my newbie status until my 1000th post.

My game idea is about a guy called Gaybrush Humpwood and he meets a hoodoo man and together they take on a guy called Sephiroth.. err Rothiseph.

And theres a rubber chicken with a pulley on the left hand side!

It's nice to get a vote but you're 100% missing the point.  This isn't about 'winning or losing' it's about actually supporting and encouraging people who, for whatever reason, have strayed from one or more finished games and give them that big push to get something out the door and a sense of completion -- so who cares how far in development they are?  I'm sure there are enough unfinished games made by people here to fuel such an event for some time!

Again, it has fuck all to do with WINNING OR LOSING.  It's about encouraging the completion of stagnant projects so you can say 'God it's finally done' and take the millstone off your neck.  Reviving dead, partially complete projects is a reward  you receive when you get to play the game/actually finish it.  I can't imagine a better one.

Dualnames

I said that it still gets my vote. Okay people, since it's not up to me anyway, and with knowing that you guys that posted actually have some preferences, here. I've listed those that have been mentioned at least twice in this topic.

So go here, read what themes are chosen, and vote for your favorite.

If this theme gets chosen, I'm very curious how many people will come back to their old, unfinished games, and what compromises in the design will they decide to make so that they can finish them quickly. Personally, I can't imagine leaving one project unfinished and moving on to another, unless the former one has proven to be more problematic than attractive.

I vote for "complete your game".

Voted officially...No need to count this one.

Hey kconan, I'll sure add your vote if you can't visit this link somehow, but if you can, go here and put it yourself.
