Any Dreamcast fans out there?

I was just wondering. Would it be possible to port the AGS game engine to the Dreamcast so that one could play these games? How hard would it be?

Domino

I am a Dreamcast fan, still own the one I bought 10 years ago, even though I do not use it anymore.

About your other question, sorry I can't help there.

Snake

The only reason I bought my Dreamcast, about 10 years ago as well, Domino, was for Resident Evil: Code Veronica. Other than that the only purpose it has served was to play NES roms. I would love to see AGS games playable on it... don't know why, but I do.

But the truth of the matter is, Grim107, unless you get a dedicated person to make this possible, it won't be, unfortunately. Reason being, AGS games are made to be played on the computer, not a console, and that will be the excuse for a lot of people.

Bought and own a Dreamcast for one reason and one reason alone:

Shenmue.

Awwww yeah ;D

Can't help you with your question though.

I dug mine out recently because I had a strange craving for Sonic Adventure and Code Veronica. I think while the Windows ME on it could *possibly* be made to do something with AGS, the overlap between "people who play AGS games" and "people who still use their Dreamcasts reguarly" is so small as to make it unviable to use the Dreamcast as a platform, when there are other more-used media that haven't been explored yet.

Why don't you see if it could be possible for the PlayStation(PSX) as many people have this system. And if you had to burn it to a CD you would be able to play it on the ps1,2,3, & any hacked WII.

I second that. That was the only reason I ever bought a Dreamcast. Funny enough. Shenmue 2 was the only reason I bought a Xbox (Damn you Lan Di!). Weird how those are the only true great games in my opinion. Great games and wishing they develop the 3rd and port everything over to the 360. Here hoping a game developer will take hints from those games and start making like minded games.

On topic... if someone was to attempt to make AGS game accessible on consoles would it not be better to try for more modern consoles? People are hesitant to play their old consoles for if they ever break, getting it replaced may prove difficult.

Here's it for wii homebrew channle

I have a strange feeling that this is in fact possible. There are still thriving Dreamcast communities (ie. DCevolution). There are many emulators/interpretors for the DC. I don't see why AGS can't be ported. While I must admit that I don't know how to program, if someone wanted to get a team together for this, I'd offer my full support and help out in any way possible.

It's actually Windows CE. Windows ME was another system that bombed.

MOST Scumm and Scumm style games were never meant to be played on a console either, but never the less, ScummVM has been ported to many consoles including DC. While we're on the subject matter, has anyone heard of Residual? It's an interpretor for the GrimE engine. Progress is moving very slowly, but it looks like some day, Grim Fandango may be able to be played on the DC.

The reason that the DC would be a great port is that the DC happens to be a very easy system to code for (from what I understand). No mods have to be done to the console. I can say with confidence that the DC has one of the largest homebrew communities. Also, I wouldn't say that replacing the DC is hard. They sell on Ebay all the time for around $10.

Finally, I'd like to say that Shenmue was a great game. It's true that the DC was very low on good games. I really enjoyed playing Half-Life on it (yes, I'm aware that it's a first person shooter, but it wasn't aimless running around and shooting. It was very cinematic and required a lot of thought to play. I'm also aware that it was never officially released. Nevertheless, it was completed, but scrapped when DC shut down. Luckily, it was leaked).

Dualnames

Dreamcast is the only Sega console I never managed to get my hands on. And probably the best. :(
Anyhow, it'd be great if AGS was ported into anything, even NES. ;)

Worked on Strangeland, Primordia, Hob's Barrow, The Cat Lady, Mage's Initiation, Until I Have You, Downfall, Hunie Pop, and every game in the Wadjet Eye Games catalogue (porting)

I preferred Shenmue 2 on the DC.  Jap Audio with english subtitles.  It stopped me from tearing my hair out due to the awful english acting.  Fantastic games though :P

Guybrush Nosehair

I played Shenmue 1. It's true that the voice acting was horrible. Still, the only thing that's kept me from playing number two is the fact that it's in Jap. Call me lazy, but I don't like to read  ;D.

Anyway, anyone have any info about whether AGS can be ported?

xenogia

There is a development kit if I remember -- KallistOS that you can use to create homebrew.  Not sure about the Windows CE component though considering it Microsoft.
