..or how to make two bad films with the resources of only one!

Official "Blubberella" Trailer

Official "Bloodrayne: The Third Reich" Trailer

We've talked about Boll on these forums before, but this masterclass in brass-ballism is a new high for (surely!) the worlds most misunderstood artist.

Added fun! See how many people you can spot playing the same roles in each film! Discuss what drives an actor to strap themselves to Boll's unstoppable madness!

I didn't think Boll could push the envelope any further. I was wrong.

The first one is...well it looks like a College humour production, and the second one looks like the standard UB film, but on a smaller budget than usual (or at least more obvious).  ???
I mean, it's like...I think this is what grindhouse style must be...modern version of it.

Well, I never watched any of this genius's masterpieces, and I don't even know how to pronounce his name correctly, but as I've heard, he put actual footage of the original video game in a certain movie, together with the spectacular 'INSERT COIN(S)' text and the like, what else would you expect? :=

He's a pile of shit, end of story.  And now that Germany is no longer subsidizing his failures he has to resort to tactics like this to get movies made, which is quite wonderful really.  A few more flops and his name will just be a whispered memory or something people see at the direct to dvd shelf.

Stupot

I think the only film of his I've seen is Postal.
Thinking back, I quite enjoyed it, I guess. Yes it was bad, really, really bad on so many levels, but it knew it was bad and didn't try to be anything else.  For me that made it fun.  He's clearly a terrible filmmaker, but at least he can joke about that fact in his own films, if Postal is anything to go by.  I wonder if his atrocious reputation is a little undeserved, because if I ever get around to watching any of his other films, I'm going to do so fully expecting a cringe-fest, and I won't judge him Mr Boll any less if that's exactly what is delivered.

As for the trailers, I'd watch both these films for a bit of light entertainment.

I admire him - not because any of his movies is any good, but for his talent to get the biggest crab produced and not even always as a B-movie but a a hollywood prodction and keeps on doing it.

There are so many directors out there who are more talented and deserve a chance much more than Boll.

I believe you pronounce his name "Ooh-veh Bowl".

His movies suck, yeah.  But I don't get the seething hate.  I think he's rather funny.

Here's a very nice interview with the guy:

I was just about to post that, it's really a cool look into his mind.

Uwe Boll is a man that pursues his dream. Yes, everything he made can be called as shit, but he's still a funny guy imho. He's just not a director kind of thing. I think the screenplay guys or whoever writes the screenplays is just doing a weaker than Uwe Boll. Unless of course he does that.

I actually like the idea of making two movies at the same time with the same set and actors. If done right, such movies could actually be very interesting to watch - you could see two variations of the same story which go into a totally different direction as the movie progress.

But this, however, is just horrible.  :o

Can't say i've seen any of his films and from the looks of it i'm not missing anything. The first is offensive on so many levels it's not even worth stating the obvious. The second looks just like any other game-turned-movie which, with a few rare exceptions (and this isn't one of them), are complete crap.

Well in a way he reminds me a little of Ed Wood: Persuing his dream - and failing miserably.

Well, considering what adventures in life he had, that he's basically famous in a lot of circles and the fact that he did make a lot of movies...I wouldn't say he failed miserably, he is pretenetious but I kind of envy him.

It's his sheer audacity that I admire.

You can't talk about his movies in terms of "good" or "bad", since they barely qualify as movies at all. When you see a typical Hollywood movie that isn't very good, you can still be fairly sure that it will be executed to a certain standard; technically, if not creatively.

Boll's movies fail on the most basic of levels; from lighting to editing, to "blocking" actors in a scene. His direction isn't about acting or dialog or even sequential narrative. His movies are almost entirely comprised of what would usually be referred to as "2nd-unit" footage; footage, that in a normal movie, would make up most of what fills the holes between the main scenes. Except he doesn't have those scenes.

Bloodrayne (like the two previous efforts in the series) at least has the potential to be a late-night tits'n'blood diversion (of the What-The-Hell-Am-I-Watching?! variety), but that other effort - even the title makes me cringe - is so barrel-scrapping...that the very concept of the barrel actually being finite evaporates, and all that is left is an endless gaping black maw.

And that is what blows my mind.

I can't stand his arrogance, mainly.  He's always stroking himself in interviews and talking about how visionary he is, all the while raping to death whatever franchise he can get hold of while investing none of his own money, knowing full well the German government would repay all his investors in the event of a commercial failure- which he has been 100% successful at achieving.

Nowadays his name is more an industry joke than stain, since he's no longer being subsidized with 'no fail' money and has to deal with whatever investors will throw his way.  I wouldn't really give a damn about the guy if he didn't act like he shit out solid gold oscars every time he sat on the toilet, but it's clear at this point he's just deluding himself - just look at the ratings for his films, I think they say it all about his 'qualities' as a director.
