Wow, so much awesomeness in the thread! Great stuff, people, I hope at least some of it will get released in some way or another! And since I'm already here - a few screenshots from my probably-never-to-be-finished game:

Keep on developing, everyone!

Ponch

kconan: Add the bunker level! Evey side scrolling beat 'em up needs a level inside a bunker!

icey: Not bad work, dude. Not bad at all.

SpacE3PiratE3CainE3: Why do I love the idea of a slacker dudebro on his way to see the monolith so damn much?  :D

Best AGS thread we've had in a while!

ThreeOhFour

Wow, crazy beautiful colour palettes there, Ilyich :D. Beautiful work from SpacePirateCaine as ever, lovely attention to detail.

Pinback's poster is of course jaw droppingly beautiful, so evocative and stylish, and the prospect of playing with his artwork in a strategy/action style game like Bolt Action is pretty damn exciting. Finally got to try LimpingFish's demo and was of course very impressed all around, would love to see this make it to a finished game! Cool easter eggs too!

I enjoyed the intro to your game, Icey, but couldn't seem to get to the room you posted a screenshot of. Can I get there in the demo?

Am mega impressed by all this stuff, keep it rolling in!

Dead Hand Prototype (select from the download list)

I cobbled together some of the unused, uncompleted rough work I did for my MAGS game "Dead Hand". It's basically a look at a few environments, and the full game's intro sequence.

It's NOT a new game.

SIR PLEASE MAKE THIS GAME. ANYTHING IN RETURN.
DUALNAMES LEARNS INDENTATION

I don't believe I've played a more atmospheric game than Dead Hand, and I don't believe that my vote on Dead Hand should go to waste. I'm acting like a fanboy, cause Dead Hand was only 2 minutes long, and those 2 minutes were GREATLY SPENT. I was scared shitless and the ending, man that blew my mind.

I couldn't agree more. Everybody is getting into the swing of just releasing stuff for the hell of it. It's really inspiring. \o/

If you use "Action" on the street-lamp at the beginning, you'll be able to enter the tunnel.

Ahh, thanks! Dunno how I missed that, he even put a hint about lights at the start!

Played through and enjoyed it, it's definitely a step up in quality, and I really like the monster sprites especially. Might pay to have someone proof read your game though, I noticed quite a few errors. Still, cool demo, good work!

Tabata

Since the theme is called release something, I can participate with a character I made for the swarm, but didn't come up with because it was too big and I thought, that it doesn't fit well to the given guide-line anyway.

But for to release something, it should work  ;)  and I can show you a „kind of“ soldier:

Icey

@Ponch: Thanks.

@Ben304: Thanks Ben, When I finish the game I will have it looked over

ThreeOhFour

Yeah man, I got to the end of the demo :) Nice work! Check my previous post for slightly more in-depth comments!

Also, Tabata, what a creepy guy haha. Nice technique though, and it certainly does fit within the guidelines :D

slacker dudebro

Hah, I got a kick out of that one. Yeah, the game's basically about a group of slacker Space Pirates (Where my name came from, actually. Finally getting around to gamifying it). Wasn't originally going to have the monolith in there - I'm attempting to throw in a handful of less obvious sci-fi references - but I might put it in now, just as a shout out to this thread.

And I need more Barn Runner. Make it happen!

S3 - the demo looks groovy. I'm slacking off at work right now, but I'll save actually downloading and playing for tonight after I get home.

LimpingFish - Looks like I'm going to have to play that as well. As soon as Duals got scared shitless, I realized it needs to be played. And here I was, thinking I was going to get some work done on my own projects tonight.

Tabata - Groovy design; reminds me of DOOM. You should do something with it - it's a shame to let a good sprite go to waste.

Thanks Caine, Btw people press Tab to bring up the Options menu.

Damn it! There is still a Debug on, The play is way to strong. I had his power at 1000 to test the game faster. >:(

Artwork from another little game I've been working on should also qualify as 'something':

They're WIP, but I was actually going for a simpler graphics style this time.

Snake

Wow, there's a lot of awesome stuff here!

I figured I'd release something too. It is called, Snake Pit's Paper War.

It is a game I was working on early last year, but it soon fizzled out and I have forgotten about it. Maybe one day I will complete it. As is, it IS PLAYABLE, but for only one player and there are still a few things needing ironed out ;)
(For example, if your bullet(s) hit two guys at once, it'll only kill one)

Snake Pit's Paper War is my version of the old paper and pencil (or pen) game with various names (Paper War, War, etc...) made in AGS.
You take a piece of paper, whether it be lined or not (I always preferred non-lined paper because you weren't able to count the lines and get a direct hit every time), fold it and draw a line along the crease. After folding the paper, the two players would draw their "guys" on their side, 10 usually.
What you do is, on your turn, you line up your shot, draw a little round bullet, fold the paper over and draw another bullet over the one you drew on the other side. This would transfer the pencil or pen on to your opponent's field. Fold the paper back over and see if you hit your target. Who ever has the last man standing wins! It's VERY fun!

When I was first introduced to this type of game I was in 2nd grade and at the time it was "boats". The kid who showed me drew a bunch of these ships that very much resembled the Tie Fighter's in Star Wars (heh)... and that was it.

So I "amped it up" a bit with different guys (stick men) that you could draw and called it my own. These guys had different guns which of course was another new feature. Instead of drawing a DOT every turn, you could draw whatever that gun's bullets looked like (if you still had at least one of those guys left) which simply consisted of their own unique shape. Each gun had their own advantage. For example:
The Shotgun Gun Guy's bullets would be a cluster of 6 or 7 small dots. This would be much better than using the Regular Gun Guy which was just one dot... and you had to be a damn good shot. The only advantage to the regular Gun Guy are that nobody shoots them first!

Screenies:

Here I present to you, the unfinished playable work in progress from yesteryear:
Snake Pit's Paper War

The shots you will make are based on symmetry. You aim your shot on your field, and when shot, the result appears on the opponents field.
(The closer you are to the line, the closer it is to the line on the other side)

On the playing field, after selecting your guy, while holding the right mouse button you can either enter the menu or see how much life your tank or your enemy tank has left (starts with 20) by hovering your mouse over it. The other guys are a one hit kill.
While holding right mouse, click left mouse on the "Menu" icon that appears to enter the menu.

The Guys
Gun Guy: One dot
Shotgun Guy: A cluster of 7 (if I remember right) dots
Machine Gun Guy: A vertical line of 5 dots
Grenade Guy: An X shape
Tank: A bigger round dot

In one player mode you have no choice over who you have for guys. In the game, this option is called, "Quick Game", hence the simplicity. I had plans to give the players a choice to choose their guys and background image and style of paper (difficulty --> Easy = Lined Paper and Normal = Plain Paper) within 2 player mode, which was the main target. I had also talked to Dualnames about implementing an online mode.

The CPU AI is non-existent. It is completely random unless you have a tank, then every other turn the enemy will target your tank. It is random whether or not you or the CPU have a tank. I have no scripting skills ;) Like I said above, the main target for this game is for 2 players and online play.

Also, Hammerblade, the guy who did the soundtrack for Castle of Fire, was also doing the music for this game. I had planned on having an in-game music select so you weren't stuck with the same music over and over.

Sorry for the horrible imbalance in the sound levels of the SFX and Music... :-[

I spent almost 2 hours getting this ready and all you have to say is that my original "E3" idea made you laugh???

ThreeOhFour

Haha what the hell Snake that's awesome :D

I can't believe you fizzled out on this! Currently I suck, but man it's fun haha!

It'd be kinda nice to store the previous shots on the paper so we could get some idea of aiming... or am I just being a wuss?

Anyhow, back to shooting stick men  :=

Snake

Actually Ben, I did think of that because when playing with real paper and pencil, you can see where you went last time and kind of judge where to go next based on it... :)

I'm glad you like it!
