I don't know if this will mean anything to people outside the United States as I'm not sure if TNN gets broadcast anywhere outside of the U.S., but dude...the new Ren and Stimpy cartoon has traumatized me for life.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, check out this: http://www.thenewtnn.com/shows/animation/ren_stimpy/video_clips.jhtml and watch clip #2.  Don't say I didn't warn you.  Ugh...I'll let the clip speak for itself.

And if you live in the US or have seen this clip already, I'm sorry you had to witness that and may god have mercy on our pathetic souls for all eternity.

Seriously though, it's freakin gross.  Check it out.

I think that John K. has kinda lost what the original Ren & Stimpy had to offer. I watched the premiere and I have to say it wasn't as funny as I expected it to be. For starters he as made a couple of points for us.

1) Instead of dick and fart jokes, he is going to try to gross-out the viewer at all times (i.e. eating snot, vomit, etc. kissing rat's ass leaving a *film*, etc) for almost the *entire* 1/2 hour episode.
2) Throwing out a possibility that Ren and Stimpy are cross-breeding homosexuals.
3) When moving out of your house, you should give it a good kick in its ball-sack.

When I remember the old episodes, it was dick, fart jokes and mild-grossout humor because it was on Nickelodeon, but they had to also tone things down and they added some clever humor and some slapstick comedy and more of a story.

I can't say I am traumatized for life, but I am wondering if this is what the humor of cartoons are changing to. Maybe John K. has lost it, or maybe he is going to get more creative with it as time goes on (god willing, like the old days). Otherwise, Ren & Stimpy will be a pathetic attempt to be more gross than South Park. (BTW, one of the other cartoons debuted the same day as R&S:APC might already be cancelled, and talks are that there are only 6 New Episodes of R&S:APC)

If anyone outside the U.S. has interest in the originals, go on KaZaa or other File-Sharing program and download some of the episodes. Also, there is a giant story line of what happened behind closed doors and might explain why the new shows are the way they are. Check it out, http://victorian.fortunecity.com/russell/105/storyp.htm

Actually, the ironic thing is that the original R&S was sensored to accomodate corporate america, so if the new one sucks, then it's because his original vision for it was crap.
SHAWNO NEWS FLASH: Rodekill.com, not updated because I suck at animation. Long story.

It's not even the gross-out humor that ruined it entirely for me, I mean, I can handle the vomit and mucus and other bodily fluids, but the decision to make Ren and Stimpy gay, IMO, was just plain wrong.

Now don't get me wrong, I don't have a thing against homosexuality, I have many friends that are homosexual or bisexual, but that doesn't mean I want to see my favorite childhood cartoon characters having fairly graphic (as far as television goes) anal sex!  The implications are one thing, I mean, the original series did have its share of homoerotic overtones (when "Robin Hoek" marries Stimpy dressed as Maid Marion as ana example), but I DO NOT want to see Stimpy taking it up the butt.  That's just wrong.  (In case you were wondering, the clip I pointed at the top of the thread is the clip of this now infamous scene).

I also find it ironic that it bills itself as an "ADULT party cartoon" yet there is nothing adult about it.  On the same note, it may be rated TV-MA, for mature audiences, but again, there is nothing mature here.  This is totally juvenile gross-out humor.  Not that I don't enjoy that kind of lowbrow humor, but the original Ren and Stimpy balanced out those gross-out jokes with its sly, subversive tone.  Some of the stuff they got away with (on Nickelodeon of all places!) still amazes me.

*Sigh*  Lost is the brilliantly comic Ren and Stimpy of days past.  I guess we're just going to have to deal with another juvenile attempt at out-grossing South Park.  God help us.

imo South Park got a lot better around series 3-4, when they stopped bothering about the controversy factor and concentrated on making funny storylines with good jokes. The first episode I thought was also very good, but it got a little being-sick-for-the-sake-of-it around series 2.

I've always liked South Park, simply because they've managed to balance out the gross-out humor with sometimes very insightful political and social commentary.  It's funny and intelligent, appealing to both sides of my sense of humor.  The new Ren and Stimpy, on the other hand, goes for the gross-out without any hint of irony or social commentary.  It's just gross for the sake of being gross, whereas South Park has always been very up-to-date and smart.

I hate it when shows lose their charm. That's why I don't do Space Ghost and Brak anymore, and now Ren and Stimpy. Ick. Ach. Put Star Trek back on, please.

Trapezoid

What's wrong with Space Ghost and Brak?

CheapAlert

Putting it into the Adult Swim primetime killed their charm :(

Did the shows actually change or just your interpretation?

CheapAlert

Yep they did - do I even trust my brothers late at night anymore sleeping through the show O_o

I still don't understand what's wrong with the shows now. You probably should've explained in your first post.

dude i gave the new ren and stimpy a chance, but bottom line it didn't  make me laugh.  -sigh-
I like having low self-esteem.  It makes me feel special.

What has TNN turned into? Now it's the "First network for men"? What does that even mean? I haven't watched TNN for awhile, but I guess a lot changes when you don't have cable anymore. So is it supposed to be an adult cartoon channel now? Didn't it used to be for kids? Now there's shows called "Stripperella"?! I've just asked like 50 questions in a row!?

The Nashvile Network that later became The National Network (aka "The New TNN") is changing its name to Spike pretty soon, the first network for men. No, it's not an adult cartoon channel; it's just a channel for guys.  :D

Dude, those new ren and stimpy cartoons are really messed up. :P

Scavenger

That.
Is.
SICK.

Three words which describe exactly what I say about the New Ren and Stimpy. I could stand Stimpy getting sucked into his own belly button, I could stand him dying from choking on a chicken skeleton (though it was scary) but.. cartoon charactors... doing... THAT? Even south park didn't stoop to that level. When Ren and Stimpy was aired on Channel 4 (about three? years ago), it freaked me out. But I was 11. You could understand that.

Furries aren't that bad, at least the ones I've met aren't. They are decent people, after all. But Cartoons have no inner selves. They are, by nature, one personalitied. What is shown is what they are. Cartoon pornography should not be allowed! Oh, and I didn't watch the clip. I don't want to watch the clip.

Excuse me. I think I'm about to cry with anxiety. Ren and Stimpy are still living... and this time they've gone too far.

I'm going to have nightmares...
