Music and/or sound I want to help with, if there's the need at some point.
Congrat's for the awesome artwork.

Maybe not separating by gender would be cool. There's no need for that IMHO

Ok. The tiny solo is here.
You can see it was uploaded yesterday morning.

Have fun.

For some reason, I remembered June 25th and today I came to share something and it was till 24th. I guess the next time I'll just be creative sooner.
Nice works there.

I'll try something next week. I just don't have time jet.
Cheers.

A little blabbering chit chat. Don't take me too serious.

boojiboy's piece has a nice 80's vibe to it. Wondering what software he uses for that.

selmiak's piece has that cool feature I once read about but never tried. I even downloaded Audacity for the only purpose of deciphering that piece :)

And Wyz's piece seems the most complete in terms of techniques used and number of messages, which can be a little overwhelming, but keeps the quest interesting.
The cymbal sounds used in this piece hurt my heart a bit.

In conclusion, I would choose Wyz's piece :P
It may seem like I didn't dig it, but I'd say it has the best music+hidden messages combo.

Have a nice day 8-)

I would love to participate in something like this, but honestly I'm not sure where to look to work with 8-bit sound directly. I've been mimicking the sounds by tweaking samples. Tell me where to find a direct 8 or 16-bit sound system for my xco64 computer and I'll shape up an entry for the next competiton. ;-)

The idea was to compose using any MIDI editor (any audio daw or score editor works with MIDI) and export the piece in MIDI, sounding slightly different in every computer due to it's audio card (or exporting the midi sound to audio if you want). It was about being able to make something sound funky even with those dull sounds.
I asume you know of some score editors or daws, if no, just ask and we'll find one suited for you :)

Peace, work and enjoy the music.

I was going to make a track named Reverse Biaz (if you know that guy), but then, somehow something "deeper" happened and couldn't be undone.
So here's a sort of calm, relaxed, poetic, deep, haunting, death metal piece with a reversed voice message.

Peace and keep on working :)

Well, I have listened to every piece a few times and thought about it.

I would say, although the pieces are a little far of what I would call funky, Cuiki's track is the closest. Maybe I wasn't clear enough, funky can mean several things. I meant it to sound funky like funk music.

Therefore, winner announced. Cuiki.

If any you'd like to have some feedback here, just talk about it.

Congratulations to everyone, you have very cool ideas going on. Keep the good work.

I haven't seen a rule forbidding me to participate in this contest, but I just came home from traveling so I'm out of the deadline. Also, giving myself a price would feel awkward.

You could tell which piece you think is the funkiest use for MIDI. I'll read your opinions and this week beat the hammer of judgement.

Cheers.

A month, I believe. Although I even remember season competitions. This one isn't so big as to need a season, I guess.

This contest started on March 13th. Do you feel like ending it on April 13th so as to make it a whole month and give some time to others to participate or should I end it now?

Good work, btw.

Tune contests don't get much attention around here, do they?

As almost every game in development here has a retro aesthetic, forcing the visual artist to cope with minimum resolutions (how to make six pixels look like a mouse), we, in the sound department, could force us to some old limitations as well. Just for learning.

Yes, I'm talking MIDI here.
Try to make something really funky with just MIDI sounds (not sound libraries). Can you make something feel good with those awkward sounds?

The funkiest will win.

This looks very good
So does sound the music

Congratulations for the great work.

It was a related test. I was trying to simulate swinging a microphone against the audio source.
Better things can be done. This thread felt too dead so I shared something.

I wouldn't call this a definitive thing. Unless I'm the only participant

I could do some voice acting as well
